Fergal’s suggestion of a Holy Hour of Reparation on August 6 is a great idea. I know several people who would be open to this. But, how can we get the word out? A flyer for the Adoration Chapel? An ad in the local Catholic paper?

It seems the college is taking the attitude that he is doing this on his own time and is not using college resources, so it really isn’t their duty to do anything (other then remove the link to his blog from the school system). They basically said that they “hope” that their professors would be professional outside of the school environment, but it doesn’t sound like they are going to do anything about it.

Of course there may be unreported repercussions. He may not get fired outright since he is tenured, but bad press could cause him never to get full professorship since he is listed as an Associate professor.
We can be sure he’ll have to pay for this in some way. I have to wonder what our Muslim brethren might have in mind for this guy. After all, we’ll only pray for him, which he fears not at all, but if he truly understood what he’s done, that’d be his greatest fear–that is if he wants to hang onto his atheism.

My only fear is he’ll become some kind of martyr, either by blood or by getting passed over. The first kind would gain him instant sympathy, although he wouldn’t be here to enjoy it. And the other would be too far down the road for him to say he was denied a professorship because of it. Either way, the man has only really hurt himself, poor lost soul.

The Catholic League has now commented on the fact he actually has done it.

catholicleague.org/release.php?id=1465

O my Jesus forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy. Amen.

If Myers sees that his act of desecration has moved masses of Catholics to prayer, it is then he will realise that he has truly lost and that our Faith is much bigger than one mans evil intentions and acts.
I SERIOUSLY doubt this. I would bet that it would only strengthen his conviction that we truly are crazy and worship a cracker.

I say leave him alone so he can go away and realize the impact of his actions on his final day. I’m not worried about these types - God will surely take care of them as appropriate. 😉

You can see what he did on his site (if you have the stomach) he put a rusty nail into the host (joked that he hopes Jesus got his Tetanus shot) and then threw both the Eucharist and some pages from the Koran into the trash can and threw coffee and a banana peel on top of it.
When the Muslims hear about this, I put his life expectancy at about a week.

Folks,
Code:
As much as it pains me to think about how our Blessed Lord was treated by one of His children (and yes the good professor is a child of God), I give all the glory to Him have used these events to pour His blessings into mi heart I thank Him for:
a) The almost indescribable pain I currently have in my soul, because it proves to me that everything I say about the Eucharist are not just words.

b) All the people that at this very moment I know feel the same way I feel. It proves to me that I am not alone, I am part of something bigger than myself, the mystical Body of Christ that is the Church.

c) All those who are willing to do reparation for the affront to our Lord, because “they get it”. These are not the actions of just one person, but the actions of the spirit of this age. The actions of this man are almost irrelevant compared with the what these actions reveal from our true enemy.

d) Mr. Akin and Mr. Shea that have articulated in such a clear way what these actions mean, not at the childish level of the enemies of the Church but with the clear voice of true thinkers of our times.

What I have learned from all this?

God’s Grace always finds a way…Always…

Out of death, life.
Out of despair, hope,
Out of darkness, light.

Blessed be God.
Blessed be His Holy Name.
Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true man.
Blessed be the name of Jesus.
Blessed be His Most Sacred Heart.
Blessed be Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar.
Blessed be the Holy Spirit, the paraclete.
Blessed be the great Mother of God, Mary most holy.
Blessed be her holy and Immaculate Conception.
Blessed be her glorious Assumption.
Blessed be the name of Mary, Virgin and Mother.
Blessed be Saint Joseph, her most chaste spouse.
Blessed be God in His angels and in His Saints.

May the heart of Jesus, in the Most Blessed Sacrament, be praised, adored, and loved with grateful affection, at every moment, in all the tabernacles of the world, even to the end of time.

Amen.

Best answer so far. Let the mighty hand of the Lord bring down DIVINE JUSTICE.

**Matthew 10:28

28Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

This joker had better be really afraid.

I wish I had the stomach to pray for this person but, after reading that he actually went through with it, all I can feel is anger. It seems to me like this equates to when the people were spatting and slapping our Lord as He carried His cross…Just completely and uttering disgusting…Maybe once I calm down a bit, I will be able to focus on a prayer for this lost soul. I leave it in God’s Hands as always.

I have just read on PZ Myers website that he has carried out the desecration he ‘promised’ he would do if he received some Hosts. See for yourselves on his so called scienceblog.

I am hoping and praying that the ones he received are not consecrated. We will never know and of course there is the possibility that they were.

I am suggesting that we all make a Holy Hour of Reperation before the Blessed Sacrament to make up for this terrible and appaling act of hatred…no…act of evil.

Perhaps we should all pick the same day for our Holy Hour and publicise it as much as possible. If Myers sees that his act of desecration has moved masses of Catholics to prayer, it is then he will realise that he has truly lost and that our Faith is much bigger than one mans evil intentions and acts.

I suggest the upcoming Feast of the Transfiguration, 6th of August 2008.

Blessed be Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar.
Sounds good. But Jesus is bigger than anything Myers can do. There is the satisfaction in knowing that what goes around comes around.

It’s not even a “cracker”, it’s a wafer. And apparently some Christians sent him death threats! That makes the rest of us look bad and gives his ilk more “ammo”! Having said that, he and his ilk are ignorant, **arrogant **(Edited).

**Hey, let’s get him to do one of those things. It will save us a write-in campaign to get him out! 👍 **

I think Mark Shea said it best on his blog, this guy is just like those at the foot of the Cross saying “If you are the Son of God, come down”

may God have mercy on his soul. i am not sure if he has hatred for Jesus, but i do believe he has hatred for himself.

I saw someone post a comment on his blog early on that he could just buy Communion wafers online. I think we should not give Myers the credit to even belief this Eucharist was consecrated. The man has proven there is something wrong with him. Being a liar, also, would surely not be outside the realm of possibility. He could have bought the Communion wafer at any one of a multitude of online shops like this:

concordiasupply.com/Browse-Church-Supplies/Bread-&-Wafers/147

eden, you are right. or if there is a local catholic supply store in his town, they also have the unconsecrated wafers that he could purchase. i am not sure if they sell to the public or if you have to have proof you are buying them for your church. i was hoping that this was not a consecrated wafer.

this is not a man who is happy with himself or his life i would think. and, therefore, takes great pleasure in destroying what other people hold onto.

Sorry for the slip. If anyone wonders what I used, think “beasts of burden”. Again, I am revolted by what Myers has done, but I’m also appalled with those who sent him death threats.

Since this is a duplicate thread, can this be merged with the longer, older one?

He reasoned, in the manner a rebellious adolescent might reason, that if nothing catastrophic happened on occasion of his desecration, that the host contained no real power, and wasn’t really Christ. He intended to draw people away from Christianity by demonstrating that the sacrament is powerless.
Anyone, even a non-believer, with a rudimentary understanding of Christianity would find this to be absolute non-sense. After all, Pontius Pilate, the Roman soldiers, Jewish leaders & co. who acually crucified Jesus were not immediately “struck by lightning,” or anything like that, so why would something like that happen to him?

All he did was earn himself an express one-way ticket downstairs to a climate a lot warmer than Minnesota.

Which raises an interesting question - since it is through the power of the Holy Spirit that the bread and wine are transubstaniated into the body and blood of Christ, would his words, thoughts, and actions not constitute the unforgivable sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit?

This guy makes atheists look like…ugh, I can’t use the m-word, it may violate board rules.

His setting of a bad example has led to
  1. MORE Catholics praying
  2. MORE other Christians praying
  3. MORE people waking up and taking notice
  4. Atheism looking really bad
He lost. He just doesn’t know it yet. Even if he doesn’t get fired, he’s done more to help the Catholic faith than he thinks. He’s set the Militant Atheist movement back nicely.

Also, I don’t think it is a coincidence that Militant Atheists and satanists seek to steal and desecrate the Eucharist. When evil people seek to go after the Eucharist to do evil with it, that’s pretty much a loud testimonial to the truth of the Eucharist.

I pierced it with a rusty nail
That is staggeringly ironic.

I don’t think that the best argument Myers presents against ultra-secularism is how extreme and un-scientific his beliefs are. I think it’s how incredibly unhappy he is. If I were totally apathetic about religious truth, Myers would make me want to be religious just because I wouldn’t want to become as hateful and bitter as he is.

How very sad. 😦 This brings tears to my eyes that he actually carried out this despicable act. :crying: May God bring him to repentance. :signofcross::gopray2:
