It’s called a Pyx. It is used by a priest, deacon or EMHC to bring communion to a home bound parishioner. As described abound, it is to be carried with great reverence.

I appear to be the only one that is aggravated by the decisions.
Your not alone brother.
In this particular situation, I think the appropriate response should have been to encourage those sick or afraid of becoming sick to stay home.
This, and I would say have each parish add several more masses per day, so they may have many smaller masses with less amounts of people at each mass.
Additionally I have seen some Russian Orthodox parishes in my area that are doing additional divine liturgy‘s for smaller amounts of people (10 or less) that are by invite only via email, and if you wish to be invited, you would have to sign up online (which I am seriously considering for Easter), also they ask if you haven’t received an invite to please not attend the services (I’m sure they probably feel terrible turning people away, but these times are unprecedented), perhaps this model could be useful 🤷‍♂️

Also, as a reminder, we are Catholics with an apostolic Church and our Pope & bishops have the power to do all kinds of awesome things, including rescheduling Easter on the liturgical calendar in these extraordinary times 🙂
Actually even the Pope has stated, Easter will not be rescheduled:

We all feel somewhat estranged from the Lord. Separated out of necessity. Temporarily separated.

True love waits.

We do know how it’s transmitted and how to avoid it. So we are.
Yes, we do. That is why we have CDC recommendations. It is not magic.

a one-man pet idea for allegedly solving some problem that will, if implemented, make matters worse.
The data indicates that the “pet” ideas of leaders has not stopped the spread of the virus. But to be clear, the Sacraments are not my pet ideas. But to be clear, you have had a lot of negative things to say to a lot of people on this thread, along with some very dogmatic opinions. You have called people mis-guided for disagreeing with you, ill-informed, and foolish. So your criticism of my woooo is hypocritical, to say the least.

We will not be done by Easter, regardless of what initial leaders said. If we are to move forward we will need to be able to have procedures that can last for months. Thus, creative solutions are essential and should not be squelched by insults. And as always, humility should serve to let us see the difference between our “absolute” opinions and real facts.
Nobody likes this reality, and some
For me, I prefer to stick with real reality. The virus may be spread by contact with an infected surface which has not been disinfected, though this is only possible, and not the main way it is spread. That would be through the air when in close contact with someone’s breath, or coughs or sneezes.

We might not, and it might be longer, as I have been saying now for two weeks. We need longer term solutions. Closing up tight to work on those makes sense. But we will not close up society for two months. It will not happen. If the force of law attempts this, I will bet that there will be more contact through disobedience of draconian regulations, not unless we want to start something quite unconstitutional.

I get that there is a need to change and I get that we need to be reasonable, that is, using reason. I would hate to see what this place will be like if those here are deprived of the Sacramental grace for months. We already are slipping away in charity as anxiety increases.

Promises on which tyranny is always founded. Giving up freedoms is easy, getting them back rarely is.
This is talking about political loss of liberty for safety, not a viral pandemic. Please, this is about sickness and death, not revolutions and civil disobedience. You are making a category error. Do you really, actually fear that the guidelines and rules we are currently under will become permanent in any way? Why would ANYONE assume this is how we are going to live here on out?

He will wait for us, and we can literally be His body on the Earth right now!

Let us do corporeal works of mercy for others during this time, and truly step up and

Make Holy Week Holy by what we go out there and do for others!

No time for standing around anymore, let’s do something, taking action in our neighborhoods

It’s a field hospital out there.

Let’s turn it around and make our priests proud of us!

Here’s my solution. Have all religious services outside. Set up chairs 6 feet apart, an altar in front, and let us worship God as we customarily do in the midst of this terrible virus. If we die we go directly to heaven.

Why not? The host can be distributed in the hand like we did before the churches were shut down. When we need the comforting presence of God, the church has no Masses and thus no Eucharist? I cannot agree that is the correct course of action the Church should be taking, especially during this most holy of seasons.

I would hope we all have that same desire. I had another thought. Although I know we normally are forbidden from self-communication, I could see having a paten on a table that the priest places the host, steps back, the penitent steps forwards takes it, repeat. If it is theological possible, there could still be a six foot separation. Personally, I just held my breath last time when I was within six feet. Of course, the priest used sanitizer copiously before.

Because not everyone will abide by six foot separation and the virus will spread. Personally, I want to see my grandkids grow up and have a chance to teach them about Jesus, as well as wanting to see our kids come back to the Faith.

I know of a diocese (about 4 hours from me, I have family that live in this area) that was doing something similar to this, everyone would sit in their cars and tune in on the radio to listen to mass in the parking lot and reception of communion was done via drive-thru style, think this:

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

The bishop had allowed this for as long as possible until the civil authorities put an end to it.
I’m not entirely sure why they did, as they allow for drive-thru’s in the area, I had planned on attending Easter there but sadly this option is no longer available.

You can call it whatever you want. God wanted people to be free, which is why he gave us intellect and freedom of choice. The freedom to choose right over wrong, good over evil and to self-govern, rather than to be robots or servants forced to love and “choose” right.

And the progressive godless people have no reason to keep America free.
Of course there is consequences to abusing freedom as the Swedish writer Ellen Key observed…

“A new principle cannot be put into effect without bringing with it new mistakes. But we may, however, be convinced that the laws of life - to which belongs the law that suffering follows the misuse of freedom - will finally be able to bring everything within its right limits.”

We all may be more respectful and understanding of true freedom after all this is over.

I wonder why they put a stop to this. It seemed like a good solution to receiving communion.

Honestly I have no idea, the picture I provided was just to allude to what was explained to me, but from what I’m told the bishop actually required the priest to wear medical gloves and a surgical mask, also they were doing drive-through confessions which I believe has now been canceled but I’m not 100% on that, I am 100% on the parking lot mass sadly being stopped.
It seemed a perfect solution to me.

The Church is not a democracy, it’s a monarchy, and we need to be obedient to our bishops and the Vicar of Christ.
