<Do you pray for others? No
Do others pray for you? Not at my request

Why do you pray for others when they could just go straight to Jesus? not applicable (see above)
Why do you ask others to pray for you when you could just go straight to Jesus? not applicable (see above)
Are they worshipping you? not applicable (see above)
Are you worshipping them?not applicable (see above)>

Well…that certainly does illustrate our differences now doesn’t it?

Where does it say in scripture that intercessory prayer is forbidden?

When I read scripture I see people interceding for each other quite frequently.
I see Mary interceding to her Son at the wedding feast at Canaa.
I see souls in heaven engaging in intercessory prayer in Revelation.

This is A/C trash…
The HHQQ is acknowleging that Mary is the mother of mercy , sweetness and hope…You badly read into it things that any Catholic with half a brain can tell you.
get the money back on the stuff they have sold you and come look at the Idolatry thread if you think you have answers. Don’t hijack this thread.
Don’t be upset at me because logic and facts are again showing the weakensses the catholic church refuses to deal with.

You should be upset at the leadership of the church for leading you astray.

Yes, it does. I can’t for the life of me understand why if you want to build a relationship with God you don’t build a relationship with him/her directly.

Where does it say in scripture that intercessory prayer is forbidden? It clearly states that “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” it doesn’t say through Mary or a “saint”

You should be upset that the preachers that you listen to lie to you about the Catholic Church and that you are gullible enough to believe it. I would say that it is YOUR church leadership that has led you away from the truth. I WAS upset when after 34 years of the junk you preach I discovered the truth. You and your friends don’t know what you’re talking about. Do your own research without all the biased info and see for yourself…IF ya have the guts, which I doubt.

I’ve done decades of research, the facts, and truth are clear and the catholic church unfortunately is on the wrong side of the truth. Hopefully some day you will gain the strength to see the dangerous teachings of the catholic church.

Hello Zippy:

You say Catholics “worship” Mary. Please define what you mean by “worship”.

I have an idea that you don’t know what “worship” means, and that your real problem is that your “worship” of God isn’t high enough.

Go ahead, show us that you “worship” God as you should, so that our reverence for Mary is as high as your “worship” of God.

Regards,
Joannes

Hi Zippy –

I guess if you don’t pray for others or ask others to pray for you, that asking Mary or the saints to pray for us doesn’t make much sense to you.

I’m curious as to what Bible you are reading. We are clearly called to pray for one another:

Col. 1:9 “…we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you will be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding…”

2 Thess. 1:2 “We give thanks to God always for you all, constantly mentioning you in our prayers…”

James 5:16 “Therefore confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.”

Even though you might not reciprocate, I will pray for you, Zippy that The Holy Spirit will guide you to the Truth; if you are so inclined, pray the same for me.

These seem to be terms that can only be judges by the accused:mad: You see Zippy unless you can read heart you are casting judgements that only God can make.So in effect you bring judgement on yourself:eek:

Excellent Quotes. I would like to add:
1 Timothy 2:1 “First of all, then, I ask that supplications, prayers, petitions, and thanksgivings be offered for everyone”

and how about Revelation 5 which proves that the saints in Heaven offer up our prayers to God.

It’s too bad that you want to marginalize that which is black and white. We all end up making judgements, I make mine on facts and truths, not on subjective hair splitting.

When you are complicit in acts that are idolatry like, no matter your intent, you are idolizing.

You can spin it anyway you like, but if it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it’s a duck.

Let me ask you this Zippy: Why should many people pray for the same thing? Why not just have you pray for peace? Why don’t you by yourself just pray for abortion to end? Why bother having multiple people praying for the same thing?

Would you want someone to pray for you? If so, who would you want to pray for you? Maybe your mother, I’m sure she was a nice Christian lady. I bet she prayed for you and she still prays for you even though you can pray for yourself. Maybe once you even asked her to pray for you…

My mom summed it up best by saying that a son WILL listen to his mother when his mother requests something. She mentioned the Wedding at Cana. Mary asks for Christ’s help, and Jesus helped her.

The same goes for us. If we ask Mary for help, Mary will ask her Son to help us. Surely Christ won’t disobey his Mother.

Hello Zippy:

Just as I thought! Your definition of “worship”, which you slam us for offering to Mary, in your words below, is merely:

“extravagant respect or admiration for or devotion to an object of esteem; to regard with great or extravagant respect, honor, or devotion”.

Indeed, your problem is that, if this is what you give to God, you’re cheating Him, giving Him far too little.

Just as I said, your problem is that your “worship” is paltry. You need our Mass, where we worship God as His Son enabled us to do, viz., by offering Him His Son the Lamb of God, the Perfect Sacrifice, Whom we adore present on the altar, and Whom we genuflect to and adore.

We don’t genuflect to the Virgin Mary, just as you don’t bend your knee to God. See my point? You need to be a Catholic.

Joannes

It clearly states that “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” it doesn’t say through Mary or a “saint”
Nor does this quote say anything about intercessory prayer.

You conveniently ignore Mary’s intercession at the wedding feast at Cana.
You conveniently ignore souls in heaven interceding in the book of Revelation.

When you condemn intercessory prayer - you condemn not only catholics - but 99.999% of all other christians, as most christians of all denominations pray for each other and ask others to pray for them.

That’s your problem right there. You don’t know what worship means in a religious context.

By your own definition do you not also worship people or things other than God? Do you regard absolutely nothing or nobody with great respect, honor, admiration or devotion?

You need to be a Catholic.
The last thing I need is to be catholic…That would be diluting my beliefs with political fallacies of the cathilic government system.

Hello, everybody.

I’ve read the above postings:

Thanks to AsStAnselmPrays, who pointed out
that we ask a saint to pray for us.
.
Thanks for the Fr. Corapi quote: “If she is
good enough for Jesus, she’s good enough
for me.”

And finally, once again, it seems to me that
it comes down to sola scriptura versus
Scripture/Tradition/Magisterium.

Mary, Queen of Peace, pray for us.
