Gary,
Don’t know if you’ve gotten a response, or if this helps…
This one is not from the Catechism, and it is about those involved a bit more than the laiety… Theologians, and I assume Priests and Deacons at least! but John Paul II felt compelled to spell it out very suscinctly (where’s the darn spellchecker?) in a “Motu Proprio” document, adding the obvious to Cannon Law.
The Vatican website has it in Latin, German, Spanish and Portugese English version at EWTN. Good question though. I’ll have to see…

Jim,

Thanks for the info … it does help. Over the weekend, I was reading about the Holy Father’s trip to the U.S.A in 1987. According to this article, in one of his speeches he mentioned that you can’t be a good Catholic without accepting everything that the Church teaches. I’d like to find the exact quote or the text of the speech. If you or anyone else can help, I’d appreciate it. Also, I was taking a closer look at the catechism and there were some paragraphs that related to accepting all that the Church teaches. I need to look at it a little closer. Thanks Again for your help.

I believe in everything I am required to believe in… Does that makes sense? There are some things we aren’t required to believe in. I hold on tight to my Catechism.
Makes perfect sense to me. Not to sound flippant but on a lot of issues (Immaculate Conception, transubstantiation, the Assumption) I’m willing to take the Church’s word for it. I’m not a theologian or a Bible scholar, or whatever so I leave it to the experts.
Once I told my brother this and he said, “The Pope must love you.” 🙂

I would also say that I have FAITH that what the Catholic CHurch teaches is the Truth.

👍 God Bless,
Donna

PS . Just becuase our minds can’t always grasp a Catholic doctrine doesn’t mean it is not the Truth. Many answers will only come when we are in Heaven. Some things are just mysteries that we are called upon to believe through Faith

My apologies, is this a Catholic Forum, I mean, C A T H O L I C ? What kind of questions are these to ask?

God Bless

There are no struggle with the Church Teaching, only the people not following the teaching of the church.

I am a new convert 2002. Yes, I **believe **everything that the church teaches by its Divine Authority. There must be absolute truth. We can’t pick and choose. This logic is a big part of why I converted to Catholicism wholeheartedly!!

BTW- believing doesn’t mean understanding, somethings just can’t be understood, but isn’t that why God is God!!

peace
Hi Monicathree,
I cant make these two words jell. Can you help me?
Walk in love

I try very hard to believe. I find it very difficult however when people challenge me with questions and accusations that I just can’t answer or explain. While these are bumps on the road, I cling to my beliefs in the authority and teachings of the Church. Augistine could not have said it any better:
“I believe in order to understand, not to understand in order to believe.”

I do believe! I do believe! I do believe! I feel like I’m in Oz or somewhere. Just kidding! Reality? I absolutely do believe!!! Where does the problem come in? It comes in when I don’t want the “truth” to fit what I want to do. What do I want to do? SIN. Why are there so many break-away religions? Because they want to sin and so they changed God’s laws. Pretty darned simple.

I find it unacceptable that Christians can’t find unity and peace together but preach peace throughout the world.

i was raised a christian and i agree with you on the fact that they cannot find peace within themselves. was it wrong of me to be raised a christian and then abandon my religion? ( though i did not abandon my belief in god!) how do i know that the same circumstance will not happen with the catholic faith? i am young and confused. i have not studied the catholic faith, but a i am trying to now and need a little divine providence. i need to know that searching for a religion that i can safely pass to my son will not betray my faith .

I’m a new convert, and I have met many Catholics who pick and choose what they want to believe. What do you struggle with in the Church?
None. I don’t struggle with the teachings of Holy Mother Church. I’m so confident that She will not lead me astray for She has lead Her children on the right path to Jesus for 2005 years already and I’m pretty sure that She will continue to do so. But I do struggle with Her members who like to cherry-pick what to believe.

I wonder how they can still call themselves Catholic when they only want to believe the teachings of the Church that suite their own belief. Hmmm. Why don’t they become the Mother of 1.1 Billion people?🙂

Hmmm well Jesus is Lord, I wouldn’t give that up for anything!
i believe everything the catholic church teaches, as long as it follows Gods word, if it doesn’t then it doesn’t follow God, He who is the same yesterday, today and evermore.

Or a sinner trying their best to know God.

I believe everything the Church teaches. I was baptized about eight years ago. I came from a mostly baptist background. I always felt something was missing there. As soon as I walked into the Church I knew I would be Catholic, even though I knew nothing about Catholic beliefs. I have never been able to put into words how I felt. I just knew I was in a Holy place. Later I learned about the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. It all made sense.
Peace be with you

Yes I believe everything the Catholic Church teaches!!

I have no problems, doubts or worries about the Church. My faith is enormous. The Catholic Church is always right and is leading me straight to Heaven.

Oh Jesus, may the whole world burn with love for You.

People who do not follow the teachings of the Church do not understand that ALL of the Church teachings are Biblically based. So to say you do not believe in particular teaching means you do not choose to follow Gods scripture and or GODS LAW. The issue I have most heard debated and we have heard alot in the media recently is the Church teaching on contraception. I have heard all the arguments…what about STD’s etc…If one is in a valid Catholic marriage one does not have to worry of such things. If one is engaging in pre-marital relations and or is promiscuous the issue is not really whether or not you should use contraception…you obviously have other issues. And just because you are in a Catholic Marriage does not mean you have to have twelve kids…I have been married for twelve years and have three kids and one on the way…planned I might add. It’s all about responsibility.

I did not vote because my reply was not there.

I was going to say that I do not agree 100% with what the Church teaches. I am truly amazed at the number of people who do believe 100% that the Church teaches.

Maybe I do believe 100% but I am not sure because I am not sure that I know all the Church’s teachings or that I know the difference between what the Church’s teachings are and whatever might fall into the realm of where I can choose, and if I have no choices at all, then I am no more than a robot and I don’t want to be a robot.

and I was born Catholic and I was pretty much a robot until I was in my thirties when people started asking me questions and I didn’t know the answers.

The Church lets you choose to believe whatever you want. This freedom of conscience is part of human dignity. That being said, choosing not to believe things that the Church teaches carries with it consequences which may be eternal. But in the end, it’s always our choice.

Ah yes, believe 100% or go to hell

Time to Say Goodbye as Andrea Bocelli would sing. Beautiful voice.

Yes I believe everything the Church teaches. Eventhough being the sinner I am I don’t follow them very well all the time.
