Not entirely true, Remember, priests from the Byzantine Rite of the Church are not of another denomination, but Catholic, in obedience to the Pope, and are allowed to be ordained as married men. The REQUIREMENT of celibacy is quite unique to the Latin Rite.

I understood the point of the post, I just don’t think that because you know some Priests that you can speak for all of them. I don’t think its right to make public knowledge of something that someone may have shared with you in private.

What are you talking about. There are thousands of US catholic priests NOW who want the rules of celibacy abolished. They are not worrying about 24/7…thats just your opinion thats not any factual information. The president of the United States is a lot busier then any priest. A good doctor married or single is still a good doctor and performs well. A priest has a good life. Never go on strike, no heavy lifting, don’t get your hands dirty. A good salary, full benefits, free money stipends for funerals/weddings. Sunday afternoons are usually spent at a well to do catholic home enjoying expensive beverages watching football. How do I know this. My mothers god son is a parish priest has been for 39 years. With friends when someone asks him what its like being a priest he laughs and tells them what I stated above. He says I am trying to drum up more business to get more men interested in the priesthood he says. (LOL) I also know 2 men that were priests and they say the same thing. There are committies in every parish that do most of the work. 163 catholic priests thats right 1 6 3 in the Milwaukee Diocese sent letters to the bishop asking to abolish celibacy…that is 163 catholic parishes in and around Milwaukee Wi. and all those priests want change. Another catholic group of priests, Voice Of The Ordained arch diocese of New York have priests listed all over the USA that want celibacy abolished. If so many of these good catholic priests want the option to marry its obvious they are not worrying about your 24/7. What this goes to show is that there is a LOT of discention and divide in the good ole catholc church.

“Father” John Shuster is a priest who no longer has faculties. He left the priesthood. He makes historical mis-statements in his case in the first paragraph. He is hardly a credible witness.

I believe several of the 12 apostles were married. Again I say when over 50% of United States Catholic priests polled recently by the New York Times/CBS that favour relaxing celibacy then 1 out of every 2 parishes in the united states (maybe your parish) I am sure your diocese has a priest(s) that disagrees strongly with your view on this matter. Maybe you should talk to your bishop to find out who they are.He says that the current discipline of the Church is that priests and Bishops come from the ranks of unmarried, celibate men, and that they will have made a solemn vow to remain celibate for their whole lives.

There are Catholic priests who are married and are active priests. There are married priests. However, it is not the current practice of the Latin half or Latin lung of the Catholic Church to commonly ordain a married man. That is not to say that they won’t, however. In recent years, they have ordained a very, very few such men. It is an exception to the practice. If the Church wished, she could ordain many such men. But, the Church does not so wish at this time.
For women, it is different. The Church has said that she is not *able *to ordain women. It is not a matter of what the Church wants. It is a matter of what is.
That’s a misleading statement. From the time of the Apostles, there were married men who could become priests, but no priest who entered the priesthood as a single male ever married afterwards.
And again, the Catholic Church is not run on polls - it is not a democracy.
