Does anyone here really believe that the Pope is the AntiChrist?

Indeed, it was written during his reign. And there are two different versions of the manuscript… some have the Mark of the Beast as being 666, others as 616. Interestingly, both of these when put into Hebrew in which numbers correspond to letters, add up to his name. The prophecies also resemble his reign very well, the actual mark without which man could not ‘buy or sell’ may well have been Roman coinage.
I agree, I believe that Nero was the Anti-Christ or at least an Anti-Christ.

“Rome will lose the faith and become the seat of the Antichrist.”

“The priests, ministers of my Son, the priests, by their wicked lives, by their irreverence and their impiety in the celebration of the holy mysteries, by their love of money, their love of honors and pleasures, the priests have become cesspools of impurity. Yes, the priests are asking vengeance, and vengeance is hanging over their heads. Woe to the priests and to those dedicated to God who by their unfaithfulness and their wicked lives are crucifying my Son again The sins of those dedicated to God cry out towards Heaven and call for vengeance, and now vengeance is at their door, for there is no one left to beg mercy and forgiveness for the people. There are no more generous souls, there is no one left worthy of offering a stainless sacrifice to the Eternal for the sake of the world.”

Wow!

Which Protestant Denominations recognize or accept the Westminster Confession of Faith or the Book of Concord?

We need to pray for them.
Those are historical documents. Most Protestant churches that use them have disavowed the portions about the Pope.

I do believe the Lutherans still use a modern version of the Book of Concord though, don’t they?

I think JP2 was quite possibly an antichrist. His activities as Pope are the reason. OTOH, it’s not hard to imagine that a Pope could be far worse even than JP2.

On the other hand (OTOH)…

John Paul II preached Jesus to more people in more places than anyone EVER.

John Paul the great may very well be the most awesome Pope we’ve ever had, or ever will. I do love and respect and honor our current one also, Pope Benedict XVI, and all those who have been our Pope’s since I was born. I actually prayed for our current one to be our Holy Father. I thank God for them!! The one’s I have known the most about were the current and the last.

John Paul II was not an enemy of the Gospel nor was he in opposition to Christ. Never did he deny that Jesus is the Christ. He believed in the Incarnation. Those who are antiChrist do such things. Shame on you for bearing false witness against him.

Our current Holy Father, Pope Bendedict XVI, loved John Paul II and was a great friend of
his. I read somewhere once (and normally I remember or have the sources, but…I can’t find
it for this), that John Paul II, once told then Cardinal Ratzinger, that God had great
things in store for him. That he, (Pope Benedict XVI, not yet then the Pope of course, would be), THE Pope of Vatican II. He sounds like someone who was filled with the Holy Spirit to me. (wisdom, understanding, councel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord),

When, on that last good Friday that he was able, Pope John Paul II carried that huge, heavy Cross through the streets, and then Cardinal Ratzinger stepped out from among the crowd and helped him carry the Cross, that is when I started praying, through tear-stained face, that he would be our next Holy Father.

Anyone who would say the things you have said about him, obviously hasn’t read the treasures that John Paul II gave our Church as he led us. I refer you to:

www.vatican.va

I refer you also to the great writings on this site that we are on and also to EWTN. You
obviously, although you’ve been on this forum for quite some time, have not taken in the
wealth of information that has been available to you. I suggest you get started. You know
NOTHING of John Paul the great, and it shows!

I read the article, and Rome is not in reference to the Church but the city.

How is it that someone who calls himself/herself Catholic can say that a Pope was the anti-Christ? I will admit, there have been those with err… loose morals, but JPII was certainly not among them. And it matters not on the person, they still sit on the chair of St. Peter, and are infallible no matter their personal actions.

The La Salette prophecies seem to be out of place with regards the Pope. She talks about “The Vicar of my Son will suffer a great deal because for a while the Church will yield to large persecution, a time of darkness and the Church will witness a frightful crisis” not that he will be an anti-Christ.

To whoever asked me concerning a false pope: St malachy prophecies

As far as a rapture: have you not ever heard of the phrase "snatched up’ in a twinkling of an eye…the word ‘rapture’ is only a word to describe this that shall be done according to Scripture.

And in no way has amilianiumism been declared infallible dogma. I am free to explore all views out there.

I am looking forward to the Second Coming of our Lord. i believe that it is near the time, as far as fulfillment of prophecy goes. While the catholic church has been lovingly devoted to the sacraments, there is no reason why we cannot open our eyes and ears to what and how this event will come to pass.

I pray that my church reviews its current philosophy, which as i have read, never excluded completely as without merit a pre-trib or rapture, and begin to prepare the millions of devoted catholics for the soon Second Coming of our Lord.

If you believe that Jesus was Who He said He was, then you must accept as prophecy all that was Written about Him before He came and what is Written about what is to happen when He comes again. Discount the Revelation of Jesus Christ to john as not the apocalypse before His Coming. But the Old Testament speaks very much on the subject.

Scipture must be either completely true or it is a lie.

you choose.

I say this in all love
and
may His peace be with you forever
and
please i need no lectures about the safty of my soul whenever i brooch this subject i get told i am in danger of going to hell…nah…I am going to heaven

Why is it that people insist on calling them St. Malichi’s (Spelling?) prophecies, and yet they originated over one hundred years after his death?

Could I respectfully ask how this relates to the discussion? I honestly do not see how this is relative to the discussion.

Once again, read the Book of Concord and the Westminster Confessions. It’s all right there. Please see the sarcasm. Seriously, these references do say that the Pope is the Anti-Christ. I do not get it, but look it up.

God Bless
Well, Scripture does teach that the Roman Church (whose bishop is the Pope) will crush Satan.

“Then the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet” (Rom. 16:20)

However, if the Pope is the anti-christ, it follows the Roman Church must be the anti-church!

But if the anti-church, how explain Scripture’s:

a. praise for it (Rom 1:8)?

b. teaching it will crush Satan’s head?

Such would make no sense. Go back and read my post again. See if you don’t agree.

God bless.

Nero was not the antichrist. Proof? John said that the book of Revelation was concerning “thing to pass”. Read the first few chapter of the book. You’ll see it. Revelation was written after Nero. 👍
Hi Tristan.
There is a school of thought, on both sides of the Tiber, sometimes called ‘Preterism’. It believes much of Revelation was written during Nero’s reign and the prophecies in the book have already taken in place in 70AD when Titus destroyed Jerusalem. They have some very compelling arguments in favor of their position that includes the writings of the Jewish historian Josephus. The view cannot be easily dismissed.

Maybe, but Scripture can often have a double message. For example, the story of Jonah and the whale (which I believe was fictional) was essentially about God’s forgiveness. But it also had a hidden allusion when Christ, centuries later, used it to refer to his death and resurrection (the “sign of Jonah”).

I think there will be an anti-Christ in the sense of a world dictator, and my guess is an American politican. I also remember my PROTESTANT pastor commenting that if there was a “false prophet” in Revelation, he thought it was Martin Luther, saying “Some of the things Luther said and did weren’t very Christian.” That was an understatement. As a result of Luther, millions died and the Western Church was torn asunder, and is still badly fragmented.

I don’t know about you, but whenever we used to sign Luther’s song “A mighy fortress is our God” I got this sense that God didn’t like it. But that was a personal feeling. I think God took objection to Luther hiding behind two Geman princes in the mountain fastness of the Warburg while the common people suffered terribly. I think Shirer in his work on the Third Reich claimed the German population declined from 16 million to6 million in the century after Luther, due to the endemic violence. And of course there was Luther’s insistence on total obedience to the state, which would have suited his princely protectors down to their last beheading, and led in due course to Prussianism, the German General Staff and finally to Hitler.

The business about the Pope being the anti-Christ came out of the heat, polemic and immense violence of the Reformation. It was, when it was all said and done, propaganda.

But it is propaganda which has endured. It’s a heresy which the devil is keen to keep alive to prevent the unifcation of Christians. As such it will be very difficult to destroy.

I believe much of the current popularity of preterism is a reaction and rejection of dispensationalism popular among evangelicals. Dispensational theology is the biggest mouthpiece of the ‘Pope is antichrist’ mantra, though it dates back to Luther. When cornered, an HONEST dispensationalist will admit there is zip evidence of the Pope being the antichrist, it is only opinion.
But there is something phychologically sinister about this. If the Pope is antichrist, (of couse by proxy the CC), then it paralyzes any communication between evangelicals and catholics. The history of the Catholic Church is re-written to show what a monster she is. Her future is determined by ‘Bible prophecy’ which destines the monster to Hell. So there is no way out for the Catholic Church. Born a monster, die a monster.
Similar to how Hitler characterized the Jews.
