I presume most social conservative realise that Donald Trump is not somebody that is going to be out there like Ted Cruz talking about same-sex marriage in a similar way that Cruz did, but I think many will believe that Hillary Clinton is worse on the issue and on religious freedom than Donald Trump.

The draft of new platform has dropped the constitutional amendment for traditional marriage, but says among other things, “Our laws and our government’s regulations should recognise marriage as the union between one man and one woman and actively promote married family life as the basis of a stable and prosperous society”

Have they announced what is in the new new Democratic platform regarding marriage yet? Actually I shouldn’t be asking because of course the answer is a full embrace of same-sex marriage.
The irony is that for most of both of their careers Trump was well to the left of Hillary on LGBT issues. Now that they are running for President, she is a proponent of LGBT rights, and he is an opponent. Politics makes for strange bedfellows, as they say.

Sure do imagine what Bernie is going through, anti-TPP language will not be in the draft Democratic platform after Bernie Sanders

And Warren…
Warren, in other words, is not the first Democrat (or Republican) to attack the T.P.P., highlighting Clinton’s flip-flop. But it’s not the first time the fiery politician has taken a stance that clashes with Clinton’s policy platform, either. Just last week, Warren unloaded on Silicon Valley for what she claimed are anti-competitive practices, and singled out a handful of the same tech titans that Clinton had been busy currying favor with less than 24 hours earlier. If the senator is still in the running for Clinton’s ticket, her anti-T.P.P. tirade won’t do the presidential hopeful any favors. It also doesn’t inspire confidence in her ability to help Clinton build a unified front in the battle against Trump, no matter how much she inspires the Sanders wing of the party. The last thing any presidential nominee needs is a No. 2 who doesn’t know how to fall in line.

According to Donald Trump, some of his best friends are gay.
According to the Republican platform, it’s time for America to get back on the social course that once defined marriage and sexual mores in a much more conservative, traditional way.
Still working on world peace and the interconnected structure of reality. 🙂

The United States is stepping up its military campaign against Islamic State by sending hundreds more troops to assist Iraqi forces in an expected push on the city of Mosul, the militants’ largest stronghold, later this year.
U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter made the announcement on Monday during a visit to Baghdad, where he met U.S. commanders, as well as Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and Defence Minister Khaled al-Obeidi.
Most of the 560 additional troops will work out of Qayara air base, which Iraqi forces recaptured from Islamic State militants and plan to use as a staging ground for an offensive to retake Mosul, Iraq’s second biggest city.
Government forces said on Saturday they had recovered the air base, about 60 km (40 miles) from the northern city, with air support from the U.S.-led military coalition.
“With these additional U.S. forces I’m describing today, we’ll bring unique capability to the campaign and provide critical support to the Iraqi forces at a key moment in the fight,” Carter told a gathering of U.S. troops in Baghdad.
The new troops were “ready to come” and it would be a matter of “days and weeks, not months,” he said.
Abadi has pledged to retake Mosul by the end of the year.

Obama alters Afghanistan exit plan once more, will leave 8,400 troops
Grand total of 14, 500,maybe after that horror show two weeks ago with torture and execution and beatings of civilians we should call it a combat mission and send just a few more to Iraq to prevent the civilian abuse as this in much larger 8X the civilians.

United States is putting ground troops in the fight against Islamic State militants in a large number but this should of already been done and they need a few more.
GOP frontrunner Donald Trump suggested at Thursday’s CNN Republican presidential debate in Miami that he would be willing to support a massive ground force to take on ISIS.
This is a shift for Trump, who has, as a presidential candidate, often portrayed himself as less hawkish than his Republican opponents.
Trump made the troop comment in response to a moderator’s question as to whether he would follow a military commander’s advice to increase the number of ground troops to fight the terrorist group.
“We really have no choice,” Trump said. “We have to knock out ISIS. We have to knock the hell out of them. We have to get rid of it and then we have to come back here and rebuild our country, which is falling apart.”
Radio host Hugh Hewitt pressed on specific numbers.
“I would listen to the generals,” Trump said, “but I would - I’m hearing numbers of 20 to 30,000. We have to knock them out fast.”

Me too and would call it a combat mission with real people of ours on the ground, “think civilian” “good muslim”.

In the news:

Donald Trump explains why he is leaning towards picking a politician for his running mate over a general: “I have such great respect for the general, but believe it or not, that will be one of my strong suits.” That makes sense. He did go to a military school, the New York Military Academy. That makes him just as qualified as a general…

And as for the general, Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn, in an interview with ABC News on Sunday, he stated that he supports abortion rights and then on Monday on Fox News he said that he’s a “pro-life Democrat.” A little flip flopping there.

But the flip flopping is a whole day later, not like Trump who flip flops in the same paragraph or sentence. So give the General some credit for delayed flip flopping.

I stand corrected. She was in her sick bed suffering from cancer. Fortunately she recovered.
That was his second wife. And it turned out that the tumor was benign and she had already filed for divorce from Gingrich before she went into the hospital. I believe earlier in this thread I posted a link from one of Gingrich’s children explaining exactly what happened. Again the key points are she didn’t have cancer and she is the one that filed for divorce

But these stories persist because they fit the narrative of what Democrats want desperately to believe about Republicans. Facts and truth matter not.

ad hominem

And flip flopping, just say Hillary, Bernie and Warren and day by day. Posted right above. 🙂

It’s not ad hominem. My comment was directed at Trump’s implication that he’s already a foreign and military expert (that this is his “strong suit”) and so wouldn’t even need to have a general as a running mate.

No citation. It would be interesting to read what he actually said.

Trump was careful not to eliminate Flynn, but explained his reasons for prioritizing political experience over military credentials. “I have such great respect for the general, but believe it or not, that will be one of my strong suits,” he said.

If’s quite laughable, of course, that military credentials are one of Trump’s “strong suits”. So it is hard to believe.

As much as Hillary and Obama
You really think that Trump has as much foreign and military expertise as HRC and Obama?
Here’s The Hollywood Reporter‘s Michael Wolff, speaking with Trump just weeks before this week’s [Brexit] vote:
“And Brexit? Your position?” I ask.
“Huh?”
“Brexit.”
“Hmm.”
“The Brits leaving the EU,” I prompt, realizing that his lack of familiarity with one of the most pressing issues in Europe is for him no concern nor liability at all.
“Oh yeah, I think they should leave.”
fusion.net/story/318555/trump-loves-brexit/

Trump hardly even knew what Brexit was about when he was interviewed by Wolff.

Expertise? Think Iraq and Afghanistan today let alone Syria and Libya. I can’t see it, not at al,l not the least bit. Hillary will fix it all because for sure they kicking the can down the road? And perhaps by not listening to the generals? With all our expertise you would think we would have just a little better grasp on all the above imho.

Of course, this is all the result of George W. Bush’s ill-advised decision to invade Iraq. According to the new book ISIS: A History (Princeton University Press, 2016) by Fawaz A. Gerges, Professor of International Relations and Emirates Professor in Contemporary Middle East Studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science:
The social turmoil caused by the US-led invasion, particularly the destruction of state institutions, triggered a deep sectarian divide between Sunni Muslims and Shia Muslims and propelled the rise of ISIS from an inconsequential nonstate actor to an Islamic state. Filling an ideational and institutional void ISIS stepped in and offered aggrieved Sunnis a potent pan-Sunni (sectarian Islamist) identity that transcends nationality, ethnicity, and borders. (pp. 11-12).
Another key factor in the resurgence of ISIS is the breakdown of state institutions in Syria and the country’s descent into all-out war after 2011…Feeding upon each other, Iraq and Syria were vital to the resurgence of ISIS, which defined the struggle in both countries through the framework of identity. It developed a distinct pan-Sunni sectarian identity. (pp. 15-16).
As a social movement, ISIS must be contextualized through its origins, its journey traced from the crux of the American-led invasion and occupation of Iraq in 2003 to its expansion beyond the Iraqi borders to Syria in late 2011…In March 2015, President Barak Obama traced the origins of ISIS to his predecessor George W. Bush’s decision to send US troops to occupy Iraq. In an interview with Vice News, Obama said that the rise of the Islamic State can be directly linked to the US-led invasion of Iraq: “ISIL is a direct outgrowth of Al-Qaeda in Iraq that grew out of our invasion, which is an example of unintended consequences. Which is why we should generally aim before we shoot.” (pp. 51-52)
Why do you expect HRC to easily be able to fix the huge mess that the Bush administration left.
