Hey RR! Where were you last night? As much energy and effort you’ve put into the election on these forums I thought you’d be keeping vigil here with us. Anyways, you were missed. And I think you would have been proud of my cheering for Trump. 😉
Well, I can certainly be proud of you now, and am.

Possibly I should explain my absence. My wife and I met at an election watch party years ago. So it is an anniversary of a sort for us. (easy to remember). We don’t go to election watch parties anymore other than family occasions. But we do celebrate each election as an anniversary, as much as we have sometimes sweated them. When, as this time, we did not have a family party, there are incessant calls back and forth with our adult children about election results as they happen.

I agree with you on abortion, it is a human rights issue. It’s why I’m not a Dem. I disagree with you on the rest, I’ve yet to see a Catholic doctor in America be forced to perform an abortion. The Catholic hospitals win those court battles.

You’re appeals to religious liberty fall flat when you voted for a man that wants to keep an entire religion out of the U.S.

People feel the way they will feel and many feel betrayed. That’s not an opinion, it’s a fact. We have Trumps own words to use against him. We didn’t invent anything, he just can’t keep his mouth shut.
What man wants to keep an entire religion out of the U. S.? That is just terrible! I’m glad I didn’t vote for that man, I voted for Trump!!!

He said that Mexicans are rapists (well in his defense he assumes some are good people ), he wants to bar Muslims from coming into our country, he admitted to sexual assault against women more than once, he wants to reverse the same sex marriage ruling. These are the actions that make people feel marginalized. They are also his words and not those of the media.
Hillary Clinton talked about coercing Christians–by law if necessary–into blessing the liberal agenda. She called roughly one-half of the country deplorable. She wants to force people to violate their consciences (which is extraordinarily ironic since the Catholics who voted for her despite her radical abortion agenda claim it’s because of conscience). And Secretary Clinton’s own husband engaged in extra-marital affairs, sexually harassed several women and was accused of rape by a few. And she ran the campaign to smear all these so-called “bimbos”.

Do you really want to recapitulate this?

Given that abortion is protected by a Supreme Court ruling, there is no more possibility of legislatively banning abortion than there is of banning free speech. As for not being able to obstruct Republican plans, this is inaccurate as well. So long as either party holds 41 seats in the Senate that party can use a filibuster to prevent any piece of legislation from being voted on. Democrats have used that approach in the past to prevent Republican nominees for SCOTUS from being confirmed. The fact that one party controls both houses of congress and the presidency does not mean the other party is powerless.

Ender
There is no such thing as being protected by a Supreme Court Ruling. SCOTUS does not make laws, it interprets them. If the House and Senate pass a bill that is signed by the President which defines when life begins then it’s the job of the SCOTUS to uphold that law.

Despite the extremely muddled mental gymnastics evinced in the majority opinion in Roe v. Wade, one item was made clear: if ever life was to be defined then Roe v Wade would have to be reconsidered. So let the legislative and executive branch define life and see what happens.

What outburst?

I don’t recall her making an outburst and saying anything about Catholics.

.
I guess to you an outburst has to be public. To be sure we know her private communication was a little different. As all of us do I imagine.

Remember a couple of months ago when there was talk of a contested CONVENTION!?
How far we’ve come!

She wanted to change our Church from within, that’s saying something about Catholics! 😦
The thing is, liberals think they are doing good with abortion “rights” and gay “marriage”. That’s why they use the terms “equality” and “reproductive justice”.

Of course we know that’s modern secular humanistic non-sense, but they don’t intend to do evil — they just don’t know any better.

Now that the immediate threat is over, we should continue to pray for faith and knowledge for those who have yet to find faith.

The hositals and churches win now. What would have happened if Clinton won. She was primed to appoint activist judges that would have compelled these institutions to do or die.

We also have HC’s own words about partial birth abortions and changing the religious people think!

I’m from Canada and I’m proud of my American neighbors doing the right thing and stopping HC in her tracks!

Right. The attempts to sue Catholic hospitals aren’t simply half-hearted feints.

Exactly, the ACLU were counting on a HC win. WIth the SCOTUS stacked they would have appealed these cases right to the Supreme court until they got the ruling they desired.

I’m not sure most people realize how close the US and by extension Canada has come to a full on persecution of the church!

If there’s one thing I can say, it’s that I’m glad that Hillary Clinton lost. I honestly would not have expected him to win, but here we are. I still don’t trust Trump, but I’ll be more than happy to be proven wrong and see a pro-life Supreme Court.

He did not say Mexicans are rapists. He said, " . . . they’re rapists." They’re is a pronoun he used to take the place of an actual noun. When he said “They’re” who was he referring to? Was it all Mexicans? Of course not as he was not talking about all Mexicans when he made that statement. Was it all Mexican immigrants? No. He wasn’t talking about all immigrants when he made that statement. To whom was he referring to then?

When he said “. . . they’re rapists.”, he was referring to the people the Mexican government was sending across the border. It can be debated whether or not the Mexican government sends people across, but if they do, once can reasonably conclude that the government wouldn’t be sending good people across. The Mexican government would be sending their criminals across in an attempt to offload them to us. Again, it may or may not be true, but those are the people Trump said were rapists. The scum that the Mexican government was sending across the border so they wouldn’t have to deal with them.

Even more reason to not be complacent and have a false sense of security.

We still don’t know if Trump will deliver on his campaign promises.

This is getting really weird. Hillary wasn’t even on that email thread! It was Catholics complaining about conservative Catholics, much like this message board is Catholics complaining about liberal Catholics. Take a couple posts out of context here and you can manufacture a controversy about Catholic Answers being anti-Catholic.

It wasn’t about changing Catholicism, it was an attempt to move the conversation away from abortion and gay marriage and towards other social justice issues. It was in response to the words of Pope Francis (yes, some Catholics get inspired by him).

It depends on what you mean by “what Obama has done”. If we are going to blame continued sanctions on him then yes, toward the positive when the deal was first signed and toward the negative when we reneged. My sense is that continued sanctions run against the spirit of the deal, and are not supported by our president. Obama tried, but his powers are limited.

Frankly, I was in favor of getting rid of all the pretenses and making Netanyahu our president. It would be more honest.

After reading the article, I am thinking that deal was never enacted anyway, so it makes no difference whether or not he gets rid of it. It appears that our nation, as a world player, cannot be trusted any more than Iran.

Whew, I have the urge to check those European real estate listings again… 😉

Good luck in Europe. I’m sure you’ll find the setting to be very agreeable as the final spot to finally shed the bondage of Catholicism and your US citizenship. 👍

His website doesn’t even list a pro-life position. Not much of a promise if you ask me. Maybe someone can point it out to me?

Even if he does nothing to limit abortion (other than promote judges he said he would) he’s still far better than Clinton who was going to do everything she could to increase abortions globally at tax payer expense.
