I am fully aware of the Real Presence – It is what drew me into the Church 24 years ago – and it DID change my way of dressing. I went from wearing dresses that were low-cut and barely covered by bum to wearing jeans and a nice top. “Good clothes” means I break out my black capris and a
really nice top.
Nowadays, my Mass attire consists of scrubs. I wear them for school during the week, so I wear them when I go straight to daily Mass from class. I wear them every Sunday because I go to Mass straight from work. I used to feel self-conscious about wearing scrubs to Mass, but I’m over that now because of the support of my fellow parishioners who are happy that I make the effort to come to Mass after a long, hard Saturday night shift in the ER. I have donated all of my “good clothes” to charity (except my one black dress and a couple of shrugs) because I do not have a chance to wear them anymore. Maybe in a couple of years. Then again, people at Mass night not recognize me in “real clothes”…
