**Emmanuel Macron wins French presidential election in landslide
Emmanuel Macron won the French presidential election in a landslide on Sunday, becoming the youngest president in France’s history.
Macron, a 39-year-old pro-business centrist, defeated Marine Le Pen, a far-right nationalist who called for France to exit the European Union, by a margin of 65.1 % to 34.9%.
Early reports show a voter turnout of approximately 75%, the lowest turnout in many years.
Macron’s reputed margin of victory was bigger than the gap shown by pre-election polls, which projected a Macron victory by around 20 points.
A former investment banker, Macron served for two years as France’s economy minister, but has never won an election. **

Terrible blow for the kippers, oh dear.
It couldn’t be worse.

Macron is the most fanatically pro-EU politician I’ve ever seen. His supporters chant, “We are EU! We are Brussels!” at his campaign rallies:

**‘We are Europe’ French presidential candidate Macron tells rally
“We are Europe, we are Brussels, we wanted it and we need it,” French presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron told thousands of supporters on Saturday in a call for a stronger and united European Union.
“We need Europe because Europe makes us bigger, because Europe makes us stronger,” Macron told 5,000 supporters, according to his team, calling for a true joint security and defense policy at EU level.**
Macron has appeared to win a higher mandate than even the polls predicted.

Horns are hooting all over Paris, the crowds in the capital are ecstatic since Le Pen only got 5% there.

France just signed it’s own death warrant, as well as most of continental Europe. Expect more trucks delivering “cultural enrichment” into crowds in the near future.

Then again, it’s France. Not sure why I expected them to do anything other than surrender.

I didn’t expect Le Pen to win this time, but it was nice to see a so called extremist candidate get 40 pct. The tipping point for France hasn’t arrived for France yet, but it will.

40% ?

She’s apparently underperformed and will get something closer to 34%.

Just admit it Seamus, Macron utterly routed her.

Just to draw attention to a post I wrote in a discussion with Ridgerunner back in January. I made a prediction:

There is a reason that Brexit and Trump occured in the U.S. and UK.
Folks expecting a glorious repeat over in continental Europe this year - in France and Germany - are going to be mightily disappointed. I’m subtly trying to prepare them for it since I understand (and they don’t seem to) the cultural differences towards supranational governance/globalization that made Brexit a popular grassroots movement in Britain, like Trumpism in America, but which will not be replicated in continental Europe - no matter what Marine Le Pen hopes and wary pollsters fear (given the upsets of 2016).
Americans are going to witness first-hand a chasm between the reaction of the “Anglo-Saxon” world and the continental European one.**
😉

I gave you the heads up in advance.

Good. When hyper-nationalistic candidates win elections in Europe, it usually turns out bad for France. In that France becomes the battlefield where the wars end up being fought.

I can admit it, she lost by a landslide, but France is still heading for a tipping point. It might take the next Islamic terror attack or the one after that or the one after that, but it’s coming.

Vive la France! Vive la liberte!
:rotfl:

Yes, Muslim male, Gen Y/Z and leftist rioters rejoice!

Now the American left be obliged even more and have to try even harder to help the left bury the stories that could come under Marcon…

Let the excuse-making commence!

I can see it coming now…“well, gee, guys, terrorism is the new normal. deal with it.”

That’s what we are gonna hear if this keeps up.

I am no historian, but it seems to me that France has a history, or a tendency, to veer toward extremism. I think of its anti-Semitism under the Vichy regime and, before that, the Dreyfus affair, for example. Maybe, just maybe, France has come to realize that, despite its fierce nationalism bordering on jingoism, when any one group is persecuted, France, as a whole, suffers. I hope THAT day is coming rather than the one you predict.

I don’t understand all the hyperbole. People write as if Macron is a madrassa graduate.

I look back at history. Look around 1913. And 1932. When nationalism rises in Europe, terrible things happen to France. The country still bears the scars of nationalistic fervor from over one hundred years ago.

Meanwhile the fake news mainstream media painted Le Pen, who is lockstep with Bernie Sanders on economic and social issues, as a “far right extremist”.

I once got an infraction for agenda posting. All I see from OP is pro-EU anti-nationalism agenda posting. I guess “agenda posting” only applies in some circumstances.
