I am from the USA. Was it really hundreds of thousands of Iraqis that he killed? That is an awful lot. How do we know this? When did it happen? I am not being facetious. I know about the Kurds, and I’ve heard about mass graves, but I haven’t heard that number quoted before. That is a genocide-type number. Was he really committing genocide of his own people?

Gosh, I was wrong. One website said 300,000 Iraqis killed during Saddam’s regime, though other sites were all over the place. I’ll take that as fact. He was a bad man. But saving the lives of Iraqis still wasn’t the reason we invaded Iraq, was it? It was because of WMDs or something like that. But maybe I’m wrong here. I sure don’t know everything.

WMD’s were certainly part of it in a post 9/11 world in a war on terrorism.

And yes, Democratization of Iraq (and the middle east) is PART of the war of terror. Countries whose citizens live in freedom are less likely to blow themselves up…because they have something to live for.

Believe me, NONE of us know everything. I can’t speak for other people here, but I for one, have claimed saving Iraqi lives as well as other lives from Sadaam’s funding and support of terrorism, especially in the Middle East, was more than enough reason to go to war. This has always been my position and my argument. That this is enough reason because these are real people as much as you and I. Every time I say this, someone tells me that wasn’t the stated reasons that Bush or Blair gave. I DO NOT CARE. Sadaam and his regime needed to be ousted - period. He was a grave murderer and a grave and growing threat. I implore you and others to look at that fact objectively, irregardless of what you think of Bush or Blair. The world is better off without such ruthless dictators. More lives will be saved than taken.
