I am glad they admitted to fabricating a hit piece and I am glad their attempt to smear Carson failed!!

So an CAF posters who have gleefully been posting on this hit piece care to respond?
“gleefully” is a very good way to describe it.

I, for one, am not in the least interested in smearing Ben Carson. However, his recent string of remarks, ranging from his comment about never voting for a Muslim as President to the Holocaust to evolution as well as his call for a ban on ALL abortions, are enough to make many moderate and liberal voters think twice about Carson’s own way of thinking before considering him as the prime alternative, anti-establishment Presidential candidate (not that Donald Trump is more satisfactory due to a variety of other reasons). Unfortunately, several of the politically experienced establishment candidates, such as Jeb Bush and John Kasich, are not so appealing since they lack the charisma factor and seem to be dull as dishwater. Chris Christie does have a charismatic personality, even though he has toned it down somewhat, but his campaign appears to be a non-starter.
I agree Jeb Bush and John Kasich lack charisma and are as dull as dishwater. Those two will never get my vote. I hope Christie’s campaign will not die out because he shows a lot of passion.
What was it Carson said about the Holocaust that you did not like? I don’t think Carson will be the Republican nominee a year from now, but it is a breath of fresh air to have a candidate who speaks honestly and doesn’t worry about political correctness.

Well when I was graduating from high-school back in 1970, a couple of guys I know went into the military academies. One went to the US Navel Academy and the other to West Point.

Both, wrote to Ted Kennedy for help to get into those schools.

The one who went into the Navel Academy became a pilot and died in an aircraft accident.

The other who went to West Point, became an engineer for the US Army and I still see him on FB. In fact, he was on the tv show, “Wipe Out,” with his daughter.

As far as Carson, his statements are in his book and in his interviews.

So it wasn’t the media who falsely accused him, but he indicted himself in the court of public opinion.

OH and BTW, will conservatives demand that he release his grades as they did to Obama ?

Jim,

The article was wrong.

Get over it.

Apparently Ben Carson suffers from the Brian Williams syndrome.
It was originally called “Hillary ‘I took sniper fire and was named after Sir Edmund Hillary, all of which is the fault of a youtube video’ Clinton.” syndrome.

Some of you acting as though you care are being highly hypocritical. It hasn’t hurt Hillary in getting the nomination lead handily, yet somehow, parsing the words a man recalls saying 40 years prior is going to be the death knell? Not only do I think the whole thing is nonsense, but I think you are grossly overexagerrating its impact. Again, Hillary is atop most democratic polls and has the lowest trustworthiness score, which means people won’t care, or that Democratic voters themselves don’t care about integrity. Not sure which it is.

Good points!

Sorry, I am being distracted from this intensely captivating thread trying to parse your signature line…

Two “i”s? Really? And what do you make of the number of “i”s in Maximilian III? (Roman numerals, of course.)

Ben Carson defends West Point story, calling news media ‘unfair’
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — Criticizing the news media as unfair, Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson is defending his past descriptions of receiving a scholarship offer for the U.S. Military Academy at West Point even though it does not offer scholarships and he never applied for admission.
Questions about Carson’s assertions about his personal history, including his claim that he was a troubled youth beset at times by violent behavior, and his inaccurate pronouncements about historical events have gained attention as he has risen to the top of some national polls.
“I think what it shows, and these kinds of things show, is there is a desperation on behalf of some to try to find a way to tarnish me,” Carson said Friday night during a news conference outside West Palm Beach. “Because they have been looking through everything. They have been talking to everyone I have ever known and everybody I have ever seen. There has got to be a scandal.”

I don’t have a problem with Carson the man, I just don’t see him as being at all electable and I feel that he would look very bad against Hillary in a debate.

It’s highly unlikely many liberals will be voting for any republican candidate, so Carson probably isn’t worried if they like his pro-life stance and other opinions or not.

I haven’t seen that the article was proven to be wrong.
What is baffling about your claim (above,) is that the available evidence blatantly contradicts what the PBS article that you – yourself – cited, is claiming.

To wit:
Ben Carson defends West Point story, calling news media ‘unfair’
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — Criticizing the news media as unfair, Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson is defending his past descriptions of receiving a scholarship offer for the U.S. Military Academy at West Point even though it does not offer scholarships and he never applied for admission.
On this: …though it does not offer scholarships …
West Point does offer scholarships and even calls what it offers “scholarships” in its promotional material. See red box in this picture:

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

On this: …he never applied for admission.
Carson never, anywhere, claimed that he did apply for admission.

What, precisely does “proven wrong” entail?

Can you prove that Carson did – somewhere, anywhere – claim that he formally applied to WP? (Exact words, please.)
Can you prove that he was NEVER, either formally or informally, offered a placement at WP?

I don’t have to prove what Carson wrote in his book.

You can read it for yourself as the multiple articles on the issue quote him on.

I don’t have a horse in this race so lets not make the thread about me, just because you don’t accept the information in the articles I’ve posted.

Here is a good article about the Politico’s smears of a good and honorable man (my words, not from the article!). They make about 5 good points, if not more, so hard to choose what to include here as a representative bit of text.

*Let’s begin with two propositions: There is a difference between an admirable man and a perfect man, and there is a difference between “vetting” and viciousness… *

…His account, in fact, resonates with my own experience. Many years ago I was “offered” an ROTC scholarship before I even applied. After speaking with officers familiar with my academic record, they told me I would receive a full academic scholarship, and that the application was a mere formality. My teenage self certainly took their statements as an “offer,” and I wouldn’t have applied without their word. (I filled out the forms and was formally accepted, but declined in favor of a better scholarship elsewhere.)

(My note: here’s someone who actually also has experience with being a sought-after top-notch student!)

*…At the end of the day, what are we left with? An admirable though imperfect man who rose from abject poverty to the pinnacle of one of the most challenging professions in the nation — all while never forgetting his roots, maintaining grace and humility even as he earned riches and honors. In fact, his life story — and his character — would make him one of the most inspiring Americans ever to occupy the Oval Office… *

TBH, I am very unsure that Dr Carson would make a goid president, but I really admire him as a person. His accomplishments alone are stellar; the fact that he is also a decent and honorable man is amazing.

This last point may be the most telling:

…But he’s a direct threat not just to leftist narratives regarding race and class but also to the leftist stranglehold on the black vote. And for that reason alone he must be destroyed…

bingo!

It is that Democrats are used to Hillary’s shenanigans whereas, except for the medical community, most voters are unfamiliar with Ben Carson. He is largely an unknown, untested quantity. I agree Hillary also suffers from the same Brian Williams syndrome (who himself has certain positive attributes as a news reporter) but I recognize too she has fought for political causes which I and other liberals likewise espouse.

Also, if one is in a Catholic forum, as one is respected, one might learn that many Catholics do believe all abortions should be banned. In essence, one taking the view “ALL abortions” should be banned as what Carson has said, should admit that in the abortion haven of parts of the US, they have probably voted for politicians that are pro-abortion rather shamelessly so, there is a good probability such a point of view has regularly voted for ALL abortions.

We know, that some of the minority communities in NY have been decimated thanks in part to NY abortion activists of the late '60s and '70s such as Dr. Bernard Nathanson, Betty Friedan and others. This just needs to be said. We could even call such a sort of “ethnic cleansing”.
You have interpreted my facetious, flippant, tongue-in-cheek remark as a smear; perhaps it may appear so but that was not my intent. I do know that many Catholics, particularly here on CAF, believe all abortions should be banned; but I am not talking about such Catholics in my previous comment. Rather, I am talking about moderates and liberals who are not likely to agree with Ben Carson’s words about a no-exception ban on all abortions, the theory of evolution, the hypothesis that if Jews had guns in Nazi Germany, they might have prevented the Holocaust, and his refusal to vote for any Muslim who might run for the presidency. Such comments might give some people pause concerning what kind of mindset Carson has. With him, it is not so much an issue of trustworthiness as it is a sincere way of thinking which, to some, does not sound quite right.
