All I see happening is your feelings changing again and you’re back to square one.

I am a bit confused with this statement. I do feel for him as a friend because we were good friends initially. So he was always a friend first and a friend for a long time. So would it really mean that im going back to square one because i still consider him to be a friend even today?

I guess what I’m trying to say is that you’re playing with fire. If you return to being friends you run the risk (and I’m going to go out on a limb and predict a huge risk) of letting things get out of hand again. Don’t do it.

I have a lot of questions about what i did and its consequences. I was in a romantic relationship with a married man (I am single). We were friends at first. Neither of us planned on it but it just happened and i dint have the strength at the time to pull myself out of it. even though we dint want our relationship to get physical in any way it eventually did but not to the extent of adultry. When we both realized how wrong we had gone we decided to break it up but we kept going back to our old ways and it took a while before we finally managed to end it (its been 4 months). We are friends even today ( but it itsnt as good a friendship as it used to be) but have no romantic feeling for each other. But i think he has moved on better than i have. I’ve gone to confession, repented for what i did but this incident in my life has shattered me. I’ve lost a friendship i cherished will all my heart and when i think about all that happened i still feel extremely guilty.I still cry about all thats happened and all the wrong that ive done. Has Jesus forgiven me for what ive done? Ive gone to confession more than once but find it very hard to belive that ive been forgiven for such a grave mistake. I know he loves me but i just feel so far from him.

I would be very grateful for any sort of help and advice offered to help me understand and deal with this. I am in great need of all your prayers kindly pray for me. 😦
What did you think would happen? :whacky:

Find something to do to distract yourself and get on with life.

I agree with Lucky 100%. To maintain the friendship is just waiting for things to start again. It will be hard but you really need to remove him from your life as much as you can, passing on the street and saying hi is one thing but maintaining the friendship - even if you think that nothing will ever happen again, the chance will always be there.

There are few other things to concider:
Code:
 1) With him out of your life you could focus on God more and maybe find that one that God has waiting for you.

 2) You know that you made mistakes and are trying to get past them and I pray that you can get past this and move closer to God. But remember his has a wife, do not be the cause for him to sin.

 3) The pain that he is causing and will cause to his wife will be tremendous. Do not be a part of that. With his actions he is rejecting Gods laws, and the teachings of Jesus to "Go and commit this sin no longer".
I think you may find that without you in the picture - he will find another to have affairs with on his wife.

These are just my opinions and I maybe wrong.

May God bless and keep you from sin.

I understand what you’re trying to say and i agree its not a good idea to ‘maintain’ the friendship ( meet each other regularly, have a constant dialogue with him, etc). I have already decided not to do it. What i meant by “is it wrong if i still consider him to be a friend even today?” is that is it a problem that i cant all of a sudden think of him as just an acquaintace but still consider him to be a friend whom i know pretty well but with whom i’m not exactly in touch with?

Also, even though i have decided not to keep in touch anymore (a mutual decision), would it be a problem if we once in a while talk (just a casual coverstaion or an exchange of pleasantries, nothing in dept).

Yes, this would be a problem, and you should not do even this much.

Do you think his wife would appreciate that if she knew what had happened between you two? I know, if I were her, I would want ALL communication done. I think you need to stop thinking about your needs and think about others’ needs.

I just want to say that I didn’t mean to come off as mean as that sounded. I know this has been bugging you and you are still feeling guilty, etc. I do think that if you focus on his wife it might help you see things more clearly and put things into perspective. Also, I think that if you stop the communication it will help those guilty feelings…like a penance of sorts. The longer you do this, the stronger you will be.

Also, anyone know why couldn’t I edit my previous post? I thought we could do that. Is there a time limit?

I think cutting all communication is the most difficult thing for me to do at the moment. Its extremely painful. But im trying and have succeeded to a great extent. however ALL communication hasnt stopped yet. This may take a while for me to be able to do…

No, it doesn’t take a while. You make the decision today and you stick to it!

Would you feel ok if your future husband had extra-maritalnaffairs and took his time to break it (ALL , because this is an all or nothing scenario) off?

You do not take your time turning back when you’re on the pathway to he’ll. You turn around and run, RUN without even looking back!
Regardless of your feelings this is all completely and gravely wrong! It’s not about you and your feelings, it’s about your soul, his soul, his marriage and his innocent family.

No excuses, turn and run

When talking about it being gravely wrong and the question of our souls i must specify that the affair has been ended already (been repented for and confessed). Our feeling for each other are’nt romantic anymore either. And as i mentioned in my previous posts (if you havent been through them) we happen to be family friends and hence being in contact on and off may be unavoidable at times. I ask for advice in this context.

You and he both wronged not only God and each other, but his innocent wife, too. Do NOT under any circumstances, continue any sort of contact with him.
You and he have already fallen back once into your adulterous ways. You are near occasions of sin for each other.
Avoid him absolutely and entirely.

I missed the part about your romantic feelings being over. I truly hope it’s true.
Let’s putvit this way, do whatever you can to avoid him and certainly never initiate any contact or respond to any directed at you on his behalf.
Now, if you end up at a family wedding or funeral together, it’s a different story. You don’t have to skip out your important family events but definitely keep any contact minimal even in this context. “hi, congratulations or my condolences, bye” kind of thing.

In the meantime, start praying for you future husband and get counseling or therapy or whatever may be necessary for you to heal and move on. God’s grace and deepened prayer life might suffice…but if you find that you cannot be freed from it seeking spiritual direction or whatever form of guidance you may need.
May God give you strength!

Yes, i will and have started making an effort to avoid contact with him as much as possible. Even though i do not consider him to be an occassion of sin anymore (as i am in no way tempted to go back to old ways; but also undertand you cant be too confident about it), i do think that minimal contact with him will help me heal and forget about the past. Being really close family friends however, i do not know for how long i will be able to completely keep him away but im hoping it will be long enough for me to have moved on and not have to worry or think about the past even when i do have to interract with him.
Thank you for the advice. Please do keep me in your prayers 🙂

Its been a long time since the series of unfortunate events of sinning, getting back on track and falling again and rising again. i have finally managed to let go of the relationship but now the guit of my actions weighs heavily upon me (im not sure this is the right place to post this but im finding it a little difficult to find my way arount the site and hence am going ahead and posting this here).
The struggle that ive had with this sin has involved a lot of relapses. but ive now managed to pull myself out of it. However the past still haunts me and i have been finding it difficult to accept that Jesus has forgiven me for all my wrong actions that i confessed. I know in theory that i am forgievn since i repented and confessed my sin but im still scared that maybe i havent really been forgiven for such grave sins so easily. could somebody please help me in this respect to understand the reason behind these feeling? and what i could do to truly believe that ive been forgiven.

Oftentimes “feelings” aren’t real…you learned that already, right? 🙂

Just the other day I was worked up, feeling guilty over a past sin, prayed to know if I should go again to confession. Not scrupulous, just wanted to make sure I was right with God.
Well, I end up in a situation in which it appears to someone else I am lying, I was not, not at all, but the situation left me looking and feeling guilty. In the end, they knew I was not guilty.

I FELT GUILTY, I couldn’t shake it…until I had an epiphany…I was not guilty, but my FEELINGS were lying to me.

God answered my prayers and I hope this helps you too. That said, you should do a lot of reading ( i believe in bibliotherapy) and pray- counseling if you can afford it. You are still healing.

When we finally understand the gravity of our sins we are hit with remorse and shame. It might take a bit longer for these feelings to pass but they will if you stay close to God, receive the sacraments and stay firm in your decision not to sin. I have experienced remorse and shame as well and it was the most awful thing ever. But with time it has faded and become a distant memory. Just believe that God has forgiven you, accept it and take it one day at a time.

As the other posters have mentioned, feelings are not necessarily the best guides.

First of all, it was not easy for you to be forgiven. Have you seen The Passion of the Christ? Remember the scourging and crucifixion scenes? That was not easy. Secondly, yes, there are temporal consequences for our sins–and these can be severe. Perhaps part of your sorrow and guilt come from this?

On a more practical note, do you have ANY contact with this man? Any at all? Any contact at all, no matter how slight, is too much. Did you not notice in your own post how you wrote that you kept falling back into sin with him? You must avoid him entirely. Furthermore, does his wife know? That is one person who, even if she does not know what happened, is paying a heavy price. How much she pays really ought to be up to her.

I dint think id fall again after the fast few times. but just today we ended up meeting(with no wrong intentions in mind) and falling right back into old ways. i feel like such a failure. i did things i dint want to do. not because i was tempted but beause i couldnt resist the pressure from him. i cant believe what ive just done. i dont know how im going to ever get back to living a pure life. i cant face my God anymore. i sure im forsaken now.
