** kalt, No. never. You are trying to read my mind in a wrong (bad) manner. I asked you something in honesty but you thought I was joking with you.

Now I tell you that I did not learn anything from you about this father business and I woulod request you to follow the advice of Jesus in word and deed. Do not ever call any one a father on this earth. Thanks.**
You said that you wished I had said that no one should call anyone Father. If I had said that, it would have been a lie, because that is not what the Bible says.

I didn’t think you were joking. I know that you think your are right.

You haven’t learned anything about this “father business” from me or anyone else who tried to help you. It seems that you refuse to hear the truth. You have made up your mind, and you will steadfastly insist that your error is truth.

We can only present the truth to you. It’s up to you to open your heart to accept it.

If you are still interested, go back through the thread and read the many good responses. Buy a Bible and study that entire passage. Don’t take that one line out of context, but read everything before and after it.

Tomorrow night will be the feast of passover for christains
May God bless you as you enjoy your meal and praise God for your freedom

Matthew 23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

Should Catholics be using the term “father” for the priests or the pope?
Have you never heard the answer to this before?

Maybe we are are in different time zones

With the exception of wasting peoples time and stirring people up i am not sure people can do harm by taking the word literally
If you don’t feel comfortable calling anyone father, then by all means call your father Fred, John, or Hey You. But know that you aren’t doing it because of what God said, you are doing it because you don’t understand what God said.
took a long road for a simple answer.

If you read my other posts you should see i do understand. Your statement bears false witness against me.
You may be confused between me and the starter of the thread.

My reason for not calling priests Father is because Jesus (pbwh) told us different, He taught us we are all Brothers.

God bless you and yours.

I guess I didn’t see all of your posts? You are OK with calling some people Father, but not priests?

Maybe I’ve missed something, but Catholics don’t have Passover meals, at least as far as I know.

Jews observe Passover.

This is Christians’ Holy Week. It starts with Palm Sunday (this past Sunday). Then there is Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the wait for Christ’s rising on Easter Sunday.

Is there a special name for Saturday? If there is, I’ve either forgetten it or never knew it. 🙂

**Yes, Steven, Thanks. Very wise and good of you to remind. Why not the Catholics call the priests Brothers?? Why not?? Why they had to call them fathers and disobey a direct command of Jesus.

And the priests being unmarried (Due to church obligatory policy), should not be fathers at all. It is a complcated un-natural vicious circle of terminology which has been spun by the church, around simple real life matters/ relations.

I would not mind calling the priest as 'Brother.". But I would not like to call him father. In what sense could he be a father? Brother is alright and enough, the maximum allowance. **.

I have difficulty knowing with certainty how we would really know who is our for father in the spirit or faith. Even Jesus (pbwh) did not know who sits where at the table.

In the secular world it does not matter, things of this world are that and things of the spirit are of God.

The words Jesus (pbwh) is narrated to have spoken are about who we are in the true kingdom.

My understanding is he says we are to be all Brothers (i take that to mean brethren brothers and sisters as it was only addressed to men).

What is your first language? Your English is convoluted, and I think this is why you’re having trouble understanding what we’re saying.

Why have you suddenly switched from talking about calling priests father to talking about forefathers?

Main Entry: fore·fa·ther
Pronunciation: -ˌfä-thər\
Function: noun
Date: 14th century
1 : ancestor 1a
2 : a person of an earlier period and common heritage

Jesus (pbwh) was Jewish. I know that Jewish Passover is different time due to different calendar but as Christians it is this week.

I know very devout Catholics in our diocese that gather for Passover and i do know of many that say Huh?

My family does, strangely my kids seem keener on it than any other celebration despite me trying to emphasise we are an Easter people, go figure?

But for me the blessing God gave us freeing us from bondage under mans enslavement is awesome,
and more to see Easter in NT times God blessed us freeing us from bondage under His law by men and our sin just makes it so much deeper. God truly loves us so much.

Embrace the mind of Jesus (pbwh) make it our mind, he knew what Passover meant.

Passover isn’t part of the Church’s calendar. It’s a Jewish holiday.

AsSalum o Aliekum,

I dont know the exact reason and would only guess, but from what has been posted here it seems to be as a for father in faith.

I testify b4 u and God my understanding of the people i know today do not do it to be against Isa (pbwh) but they have great respect for the sacrifice priests make to help them.
They also acknowledge there leadership help in the same way as Muslims we are encouraged to respect scholars and Imam (i know we dont label them father please dont go there)

We call Imams this why? do we not have Imam in us? it is not the same but is the same word.

This is not exactly right Catholic priests can marry in many parts of the world and it is a complex issue with valid points for and against but thats getting off thread.
Maybe terminology has been spun by the church in days of old but it is about the people there today, we must respect the grey hairs who maybe on the wrong track but have only good intentions.
If we kindly talk about these issues and be patient Allah can change all things but we really cant hurt the grey hairs that mean good despite some words.

My dear Brother if this is how Allah guides you and you mean well at glorifying Him in your actions and words this is very pious path.

May Allah bless and guide you and yours as youes submit unto Him

Than forgive me, thought Jesus (pbwh) was Jewish and that the Church had the God of the old testament.

Matthew 23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

Should Catholics be using the term “father” for the priests or the pope?
The same passage of Scripture says, “Call no man rabbi (teacher)” – but Protestants don’t seem to have a problem with that part of the verse. That’s because they know that “teacher” refers to a particular teacher and not to God. And Catholics know that “father” refers to their spiritual senior – or “father” in the faith. St. Paul refers to St. Timothy as his “son.”

“Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith…” (I Tim 1:2) But wasn’t God Timothy’s only father?

St. Paul also spoke of being like a father to those in his churches.

The respect that Catholics show to their priests is nothing like the adoration they give only to God. Catholics know the difference.

May God be with you

If Jesus observed the Passover and specially the last Passover before arrest, why the christians do not observe Passover?. The christians like to keep the OT with them tied up with their NT. What use it is if the important events are ignored?

Jesus was also circumcised. Do you say that because Jews (of the Old Covenant) circumsize their sons, Christians (of the New Covenant) should be required to also?

These questions were debated and settled in Paul’s time.

If you know the NT as you claim, you wouldn’t be suggesting that Christians have to follow Jewish law.

You are really missing the whole point!

What makes you say the important events in the OT are ignored?

If you know Christianity, as you claim you do, you know that we study the NT in light of the OT, that you can’t properly understand one without the other. This is a basic Christian concept.

Please pick up a copy of a Catholic Bible and read a little bit of it - OT and NT. You will quickly notice that in the footnotes, the NT refers to the OT, and the OT refers to the NT.

It is an unspoken tradition to not call your father, father. At least that’s the way it is in Maryland. My father has passed away, and I never addressed him as father. I always called him Dad.

My grandfather called his father Dad. I have never heard anyone address their father as father, except in some movies made in the fifties. There are certain mitzvot in the Torah which forbid using the first names of your parents, maybe this is where it comes from. Parenthood is supposed to be a godly status in relation to children. Striking your parent was punishable by death.
In Maryland it is a unspoken traidition, that may be true in your familey but not all I know many people from merryville that call their father, father
