PORTLAND, Ore. — The Oregon attorney general filed a lawsuit late Friday night alleging that the federal government had violated Oregonians’ civil rights by seizing and detaining them without probable cause during protests against police brutality in the past week.

The legal action comes after days of intensifying clashes between the Trump administration and Portland officials, who have accused federal agencies of heavy-handed tactics that inflame unrest and threaten citizens.

Department of Homeland Security agents have swarmed the city in recent days, arguing that they are needed to restore order after nearly two months of demonstrations. But local officials, including Oregon Gov. Kate Brown (D) and Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler (D), have implored the agency to step down, with the mayor calling the police force President Trump’s “personal army” and suggesting its tactics are only making things worse.

What is your purpose except to incite caricatures, which is what most of your replies tend to do?

There is no attempt at dialogue.

Doxing is a real concern, that’s why they don’t have names. They are all wearing the badges/insignia for the department they’re a part of.
If they were serious about transparency and the Constitution, they would find a way around that. Something as simple as a patch on front and back in non-subdued colors of:

CBP
09867

Where the number coorsespoinded to an individual would allow citizens to identify an individual and make a complaint.

This is all part of creating terror by using a force with no accountability.

I want to make clear I do not condone the protesters behavior. Portland needs to take it’s city back.

BUT, you don’t do that using extra-judicial means.

There are communists on these boards and that’s a statement of fact.
There are communists on these CATHOLIC boards, you being one of them, so you’re point is???
If it offends Regular Atheist that there are fascists then it offends me that there are also communists on Catholic forums.

Or are we going to say that COMMUNISM hasn’t been thoroughly condemned by the Church?

Why does this president like to do things that look totalitarian?

No, it’s not. But it isn’t condemned the same way communism is either, and the church has worked with non democratic leaders when it was in the best interest of the church.

Democracy was a grand experiment but it’s lifetime is nearing an end globally.

Why don’t you ask REGULAR ATHEIST who they are??

And while you’re INTERROGATING me for pointing out the hypocrisy of those condemning fascism while holding views that are thoroughly condemned by the Church (communism), I suggest you pose to Regular Atheist who are the fascists on these boards?

Because you wouldn’t want to appear like you have double standards.

From Divinis Redemptoris (an encyclical condemning communism):

Church could not and does not remain silent. This Apostolic See, above all, has not refrained from raising its voice, for it knows that its proper and social mission is to defend truth, justice and all those eternal values which Communism ignores or attacks. Ever since the days when groups of “intellectuals” were formed in an arrogant attempt to free civilization from the bonds of morality and religion, Our Predecessors overtly and explicitly drew the attention of the world to the consequences of the dechristianization of human society. With reference to Communism, Our Venerable Predecessor, Pius IX, of holy memory, as early as 1846 pronounced a solemn condemnation, which he confirmed in the words of the Syllabus directed against “that infamous doctrine of so-called Communism which is absolutely contrary to the natural law itself, and if once adopted would utterly destroy the rights, property and possessions of all men, and even society itself.”[1] Later on, another of Our predecessors, the immortal Leo XIII, in his Encyclical Quod Apostolici Muneris , defined Communism as “the fatal plague which insinuates itself into the very marrow of human society only to bring about its ruin.”[2] With clear intuition he pointed out that the atheistic movements existing among the masses of the Machine Age had their origin in that school of philosophy which for centuries had sought to divorce science from the life of the Faith and of the Church.
  1. During Our Pontificate We too have frequently and with urgent insistence denounced the current trend to atheism which is alarmingly on the increase. In 1924 when Our relief-mission returned from the Soviet Union We condemned Communism in a special Allocution[3] which We addressed to the whole world. In our Encyclicals Miserentissimus Redemptor ,[4] Quadragesimo Anno ,[5] Caritate Christi ,[6] Acerba Animi ,[7] Dilectissima Nobis, [8] We raised a solemn protest against the persecutions unleashed in Russia, in Mexico and now in Spain. Our two Allocutions of last year, the first on the occasion of the opening of the International Catholic Press Exposition, and the second during Our audience to the Spanish refugees, along with Our message of last Christmas, have evoked a world-wide echo which is not yet spent. In fact, the most persistent enemies of the Church, who from Moscow are directing the struggle against Christian civilization, themselves bear witness, by their unceasing attacks in word and act, that even to this hour the Papacy has continued faithfully to protect the sanctuary of the Christian religion, and that it has called public attention to the perils of Communism more frequently and more effectively than any other public authority on earth.

Probably because it won’t be able to survive the sheer amount of false information people are willing to seek out and believe.
Could be that. Could also be the world moves too fast today to counter growing threats. This pandemic is a perfect example, a cogent effective response can’t be implemented because all the politicians are bickering among themselves. Re election is their main focus.

I brought it up because I was replying to someone who holds those views, and that was apparent in my FIRST POST directed to Regular Atheist:
There are communists on these CATHOLIC boards, you being one of them, so you’re point is???
Apparently, you missed that part of my response when you asked who these communists were.

Note: I’m surprised you’re not curious to know who the fascists are?

Why should I answer your silly question? This is not the 50’s and you’re not Joseph McCarthy.

My post was to point out the hypocrisy in Regular atheist’s reply.

So stop with the INTERROGATION or I’ll have your posts flagged.

As if I was going to answer a question meant to RAT OUT people who support communism (although many of them have already divulged this like Regular atheist).

Clearly, you’re tactics were meant to intimidate.

Let’s not pretend otherwise.

If it offends Regular Atheist that there are fascists then it offends me that there are also communists on Catholic forums.
It doesn’t offend me. It was merely an observation.

In all the years of me being here I don’t think I’ve seen more than three or so users who seemed to be sympathetic to communism (or “communist countries”). I have seen a lot more sympathy towards right-wing authoritarianism. Obviously to some extent that should be expected on a Catholic forum, but it’s still weirdly common.

It’s merely an observation for you to call out someone here on these boards as a fascist and white supremacist while holding views equally condemnable by the Church??

I agree that the era of liberal democracy is drawing to a close. I suspect that most countries will shift towards a system like that of modern day China, with a similar kind of integration of the state with capital.

I have an issue wit communism, not necessarily authoritarian government. A properly ordered authoritarian government along the lines of Francoist Spain, salazars Portugal, Pinochet’s Chile, are good examples of mostly moral authoritarian governments.
Wow. . . . . . .
