The deputy was in the apartment for 30 minutes.
That seems long enough to me for him to touch a surface and become infected. I sure hope this deputy is just stressed out and has a flu bug.
I do too. Stress can really break a body down, so maybe. Hopefully.

So here we are wondering why this guy walked into the clinic as opposed to making a phone call and I read this:
According to President of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Association Christopher Dyer, Monnig said he was feeling sick to his stomach before his visit to the clinic. Dyer expressed concern for Monnig and his family.
“He’s doing exactly basically what we told him to do: If at any time you don’t feel well, go seek some medical attention,” Dyer said. “I’m being told that he’s not exhibiting classic signs of the Ebola virus. It’s just a matter that he doesn’t feel well, and because he had contact with Mr. Duncan’s apartment, they’re taking every precaution.”
Well call me paranoid, but if I were in charge of the CDC I would make sure every single person who had come in contact with Dunan, his relatives, the hospital, the sidewalk of vomit, the handrail, the cars/amublances, the entire Ivy Apartment complex etc - would have been issued a phone number to call if they started to display specific symptoms. They also should have been instructed NOT to go directly to a populated waiting room and to wait for an ambulance staffed with biogear to scoop up the patient from home. Just incredible.

We should know in 48 hours. Poor guy must be losing his mind.

With a 7-21 day incubation period, there is nothing impossible about a Liberian flying in to Mexico prior to showing symptoms and crossing the border as his condition worsened.

You really don’t seem to grasp how sophisticated the human smuggling industry has become in the USA.

I agree. Or a terrorist plot where several people expose themselves to ebola and fly to mexico sporadically not to arouse suspicion and then cross the border. They have plenty of money to buy plane tickets. and smugglers. And enough people to volunteer for this type of martyrdom.

So a guy walks into a hot zone unprotected and no one thinks to monitor, let alone quarantine him. I am really hoping this reported fact is untrue. If not some people need to be fired.
Monning was not one of the 48 people being monitored by federal, state and local health officials.

The CareNow is located in the 300 block of Main Street. Patients are currently being held inside the clinic as crews at the scene examine staff and others inside the building.

It looks like it was the deputy who had to go pay Duncan’s apartment a visit unprotected. From what I remember in the past he was very upset about it.

Completely irresponsible of the CDC to let people near a hot zone without protection!

darn right it is. I don’t have much confidence in this head of the CDC Frieden.
If more people start coming down with this there’s going to be a lot of anger at this administration, and they’d be right.

Because it’s not racism because it is an issue of safety. The border is wide-open. What if ISIS fighters came across? Is it still racism to worry about safety?

And why signs in Chinese if the only people crossing illegally are Mexicans?

Let’s forget the facts and bring racism into any subject.

Drugs, Human trafficking, Cartels, Organized Crime. Oh, if this is on the border and one doesn’t want it, it must be racism.

Likewise, those who use racism in some instances, should be seen to then support no fight against Cartels, Human Trafficking, Drugs, Criminals entering into the country and so on.

And the news, for all we know, Mr. Duncan may have succumbed over the weekend, we can’t trust all the news tells us.
So, Mexico is the only country that could allow this to happen? Don’t we share a bigger border with Canada? Don’t you think these things can come through there? Or are they somehow off the hook?

Why do millions cross illegally from Mexico and not Canada? Why are so many drugs and other contraband smuggled over the border from Mexico and not Canada?

I keep seeing instance after instance of gross negligence. Even if the best and brightest were tied up in Africa at the moment, there should have been someone instantly available to start barking out the proper orders. Who were these health officials that thought it was fine to send in unprotected people into Duncan’s apartment?

Some good news. Sgt Monning did not have a fever when he went to the clinic.
The son of Sgt. Michael Monnig said his father did not mean to cause a panic Wednesday when he went to a Frisco clinic with possible Ebola symptoms.
London Monnig told News 8 that his father didn’t have a fever when he went to the CareNow clinic in Frisco, a suburb of Dallas, and he believes his father does not have the fatal disease.
London Monning said his father was simply not feeling well Wednesday morning.
“He woke up and he just kind of felt sore and had a bit of a stomach ache,” London Monnig said. “He’s a very cautious person so he took it upon himself to check himself out to make sure he’s okay.”

Enterovirus, the Polio-like Virus:
Link to Illegal Immigrant Children?
Enteroviruses commonly circulate in the U.S. during summer and fall. EV-D68 was first identified in California in 1962. Over the past thirty years, only small numbers were reported in the U.S.
The CDC hasn’t suggested reasons for the current uptick or its origin. Without that answer, some question whether the disease is being spread by the presence of tens of thousands of illegal immigrant children from Central America admitted to the U.S. in the past year.
The origin could be entirely unrelated.
However, a study published in Virology Journal, found EV-D68 among some of the 3,375 young, ill people tested in eight Latin American countries, including the Central American nations of El Salvador and Nicaragua, in 2013. (See Fig. 3)
Though the U.S. government is keeping secret the locations of the illegal immigrant children, there are significant numbers of them in both cities in which the current outbreak was first identified, Kansas City, Missouri and Chicago, Illinois, according to local advocates and press reports.

Should it result in a major issue Obama will merely blame the heath care organizations and divert blame, and in this case the CDC director. At the end of the sequence Obama is the puppet master and pulling the strings.

I was listening to steve quayle on coast to coast last night.
He said this is like ebola lite. It is not true hemorraghic ebola.
He thinks it has been weaponized and that protocol has not been followed and the CDC has been complicit and misleading. He said Texas was targeted. It was an interesting 90 minutes or so. I also have been suspicious because with true ebola your insides liquify and in the pictures he is seeing he is not seeing the bleeding like there should be and a higher death rate. That is not to say some cases don’t have bleeding. And proper protocol was not followed. All flights from Africa would have been halted if this were the true hemorraghic ebola.

I have wondered about that too.

There is nothing to stop the jihadists from getting suicide bombers to instead be suicide contagion spreading infiltrators.

Oh, so you just assume the argument to tighten border security has to do with Mexicans from entering America??
It is my opinion that the topic of immigration in this thread on Ebola is fear-mongering. When promoting an agenda, never waste a good crisis. This thread is not about immigration. If it were, I would be bringing in the teaching of our various bishops.

Ditto immigration.

This thread really challenges us to consider the Golden Rule and how it comes into conflict with American exceptionalism.

It is not fear mongering to bring up another angle/possibility. Its possible that terrorists could cross the border to spread ebola or engage in some other type of biological suicide mission. It shouldn’t be the current ebola crisis that finally causes our country to wake up and start securing the borders. But the idea that discussing the terrorist implications of this ebola crisis is somehow off-limits is wrong. Further, you can bring in the teaching of “various bishops” but it remains the duty and right of America to defend its borders as a sovereign state. Perhaps you could find one of your bishops who speaks otherwise?

Nope. Not chasing rabbits. There are plenty of immigration threads.

You do not think it’s possibe that an Islamo-Nazi would sacrifice himself to spread biological terror? Our comfortable world is being disturbed, no matter whether we like it or not. 😦 Rob

Analysis: Can dogs get Ebola?
Scientists think Ebola first originated in fruit bats, which seem to cope well with the virus and do not become unwell. People can pick up Ebola directly from animals through contact with infected bats or through contaminated bush meat.
In some studies of previous outbreaks dogs were seen to have antibodies against the virus in their blood - proteins that fight Ebola. Their presence suggest the dogs were exposed to Ebola at some point and their bodies mounted a defense against it.
But whether the virus actually causes illness in dogs and whether dogs can then spread it on to humans remains unclear.
Its also not known if the dogs can spread the virus without being symptomatic. Not for nothing but if this is no big deal as suggested, why was the dog killed and not examined and studied since apparently as each day passes we come to clearly realize how very little we do know about Ebola?

You do not think it’s possibe that an Islamo-Nazi would sacrifice himself to spread biological terror?
In the specific manner as described? We have as much to fear from meteors. What I do believe is that this possibility is used to further a political agenda, not out of fear of Ebola.
