I’m not sure if I’m like most. I view them as wrong-headed and inept, but not mailicious.

I’m sure this isn’t something they knew about. Luckily, TWS did the State Dept’s job for them.

You are much to charitable. I believe its more a case they knew exactly what they were doing - they just didn’t think the American people did.
 
I was watching the O’Reilly Factor tonight (take that for what its worth 😛 ) and they hypothesized that the State dept didn’t do their job in research because apparently this woman was praised by Charlize Theron and was also mentioned favorably by Time Magazine.

Humbly calling out sinful actions of another can be one of the highest forms of Love for towards neighbors.

Would you let your friends be in error?

If so, then what loving purpose are you really serving for them?

What error is there, in this particular action? They show relevance to ‘Love your enemies: do good to them that hate you: and pray for them that persecute and calumniate you…’

People seem to confuse ‘a loving purpose’ for all actions, even those that are correct, of those they show a contempt for, evident by a lack of ‘humility.’ None of us are perfect, and we all have our shortcomings. Those without shortcomings were invited to cast the first stone.

Wait, the girl from South Africa, who won an Oscar for “Monster,” and played the wife in “The Devil’s Advocate,” praised her?

In that case, I retract my doubts about the administration.

The error is that by giving an honor or award is an affirmation of what they believe and stand for. This person stands for hate of your nationality for hatred of our elder brothers in faith plus who knows what else. This is incompatible with the Catholic faith and with common decency.

As for casting the first stone, you should perhaps re-read the spiritual works of mercy as instructing the ignorant is one of them.

We aren’t truly loving them and doing good to them by honoring them in this context. What awards did Jesus give the pharisees? Instead, he gave them true love by being honest when he called them blind guides among other things.

Should Notre Dame have given Pres. Obama an honorary degree in law?

Except that giving people awards is not “doing good unto them.” Awards are for special behavior or extraordinary gifts, given to those who earn or deserve them. That has nothing to do with doing good unto your enemies. You don’t praise and award your enemies for persecuting you. You pray for them maybe make sure they are ok in their physical and spiritual needs. That is what doing good to your enemy means.

I haven’t been here that long, but I’ve figured out this site is more political than religious. You might want to keep your powder dry for a site that takes the gospel seriously.

Plus, this is the World News forum. Lots of politics here.

Not to mention, we are doing people a disservice by giving them awards when they do not deserve it. It reinforces their bad behavior, and could tells others that the behavior is acceptable, which can lead our fellow men into sin. We cannot as Christians do that.
