Continuing to provide a visible Catholic presence, thanks to your ongoing prayers for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization effort. We know that any soul reached is worthwhile.
  • It was only “partly sunny” during the session last week. Whenever the sun did come out, foot traffic increased, but evaporated again as soon as it clouded over. It was also steadily breezy, but never enough to blow things off the table. (Thank you, God!) One evangelist was available.
  • A man, perhaps 30 years old, stopped and was interested in receiving a free Rosary. He identified as Christian but hadn’t connected with any local church community. He accepted a Rosary, its booklet, an explanation of the devotion, and a map to area parishes.
  • The repeat visitor who before had specifically sought a “teal” Rosary for a niece, responded to my hail as he entered the plaza and came to chat for a moment. Yes, his niece liked the Rosary, but now she and her sisters wanted one in every color. I said the most important thing is that they begin regularly praying the one they already have. Then I suggested he send them to a well-known Rosary-making website for supplies and instructions. After that, if they really got into Rosary making, he could always bring me their extras. For himself, I offered him a Catechism and encouraged him to read it from the beginning.
  • A man stopped, considered the Rosaries, but then left without accepting anything from our table. He was wearing a cross-like pagan symbol as a pendant.
  • Evidently, there was a doesn’t-matter-what-you-believe-in peace “prayer” rally going on at the State capitol, a few blocks away. Several people, who identified as belonging to a non-Christian Eastern-style religion, wished us well.
  • One of those, a man who seemed to believe in “all religions” accepted a Rosary and a Miraculous Medal. He also prayed aloud several prayers in what he said was Aramaic. Then he showed me pictures on his phone that he had taken at a Marian shrine in a neighboring state.
  • Altogether, I gave away 7-10 Rosaries and its booklet, 1 Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1 Miraculous Medal, and 1 map to area parishes, with Mass times listed.
Please pray for us again today? We plan to head downtown in just a couple of hours. Please ask God to send people to us with their eyes and hearts open to perceive their need for Our Savior Jesus Christ and the Church that He founded. Please ask God to grant us evangelists all we need to reach each soul for Him. Please ask that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes from today’s effort.

Every soul reached is worth it! So thank you again so much for your prayers, words of encouragement, and other support! In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and yours!

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” ( 2 Cor 12:9).

Hail Mary,

Jesus
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of death, Amen

Three people contacted me to say they sent up extra prayers for our team. So another big thank you to all of you for your prayers! God knows our needs, even if we don’t. Nothing terribly bad happened. We did have a major encounter with a man who approached purposefully, Bible in hand. So thank you again! God is good!
  • “Greg”, a man in his early 40s, was our Bible-toting visitor. To his question about statues, a priest had said that we “venerate” but don’t “worship” them. However, when Greg looked up the two words, he couldn’t tell the difference. Evangelist Lucy explained that the meaning of “worship” has drifted over the last 50 years: it used to mean simply “honor” (e.g., judges in England are still addressed as “your worship”), but now it means the honor due to God alone. It seemed to help. Although Greg’s father was Catholic, his mother was a non-Catholic Christian and he was raised in her tradition. He rebelled as a teenager, but was now looking for truth. His interest is in the Old Testament, Jewish commentaries on it, and in the New Testament. Evangelist Mike told him that he needs the fullness of revealed Sacred Scripture and handed him a copy of the Catholic Bible. He was very appreciative. Besides the Bible, he also accepted a map to area parishes, pamphlets on “Last Things” and “Praying to the Saints”, as well as a Rosary and its brochure. Please pray for Greg?
  • While evangelist Mike was engaging “Greg” in conversation, a young couple (mid-20s) stopped. She is Catholic; he is waiting for RCIA to start. He is from a non-Catholic Christian background with an often anti-Catholic stance, so all three of us saw God’s grace drawing him to the Church. The first Mass he attended was on Easter, and he hasn’t missed a week since. They each accepted a Miraculous Medal. Evangelist Lucy also gave the man copies of several pamphlets to help him answer questions he is already getting from his friends
  • A man crossing the square with a boy, perhaps 6 or 7, began to loudly instruct the child to chant a sentence with him claiming they had no need for God. Is anything sadder? Please pray for them?
  • Altogether, the two evangelists gave away 15 or so Rosaries and booklet, 4-5 Miraculous Medals, 2 Catholic Bibles, 2-3 maps to area parishes, and pamphlets on “The Problem of Suffering”, “Last Things”, “Praying to the Saints”, “What About Mary?”, “Marian Doctrines”, “Common Objections”, and the “Good News”/kerygma pamphlet .
Please pray for us again today? Please ask God to send people to us prepared to perceive their need for Our Savior Jesus Christ and His Church, and to grant all we need to reach each soul for Him.

Your prayers help us so much that sometimes God may even prompt you for an extra one or two. So thank you so much for responding with love and doing His will! We accomplish nothing without Him.

Trust is needed for conversion. So, thank you again for your prayers and other support for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization effort. We had several return visitors last session.
  • Our first return visitor was “Constantine”, who had approached Fr. Tom as he arrived for his first outing. Constantine was out again to introduce people to Jesus. He said he hadn’t been inside a Catholic church yet, but belonged to a non-liturgical Christian community. Unfortunately, we got interrupted by eager visitors to the table and he wandered off. I saw him standing on the other side of the square for a while, but when I got a break in the action a few minutes later, he was gone. Please pray for him?
  • A woman in a wheelchair accepted a Rosary and its brochure. She said she’d had one before, but had given it to a friend.
  • A family with three children, 10 and younger, stopped. The parents are Catholic youth ministers in a nearby city. Two of the children accepted Rosaries. I encouraged them all to pray it as a family.
  • A heavily tattooed man stopped abruptly when I offered a Rosary. He came over, chose one, and accepted the brochure.
  • We had a return visit from “Mark” (mentioned last week in our full-story version on our blog, link below). He was looking for evangelist Mike, with whom he’s been in contact, but Mike was out of town. Mark said he’d been able to move out of the men’s shelter into an apartment very near his place of work. He had noticed that many of his problems disappeared when he started praying the Hail Mary repeatedly. He accepted a Miraculous Medal.
  • A man name “Rio”, from “down under” (and several other countries), stopped because he was curious about the engraved bricks in the business park. He ended up accepting a Rosary, its brochure, a map of area parishes, and the invitation to check out the free tours at the historic nearby cathedral.
  • A woman stopped, intrigued by the Rosaries, although the man with her had instantly declined the offer and moved away. She was especially drawn to the St. Therese one. I urged her to take it, which she did. Please pray for her?
  • Altogether, on this Mother’s Day, I gave away 10-15 Rosaries, 5-6 Miraculous Medals, and 1 map of area parishes that lists Mass and Reconciliation times.
Please pray for us again today? I plan to head downtown in just over an hour from now. Please ask God to send people to us with their hearts and minds prepared to perceive their need for Jesus Christ and His Church. Please ask God to grant us what we need to bring each soul to Him.

Even short visits can begin to build trust in people. So thank you again for your ongoing support for our team. Your prayers make a hugely positive difference. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and yours!

The fountain was on for the first time this season, creating a festive mood. But work for God’s Kingdom continues. So thank you so much for your prayers for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization effort.
  • An early visitor was a couple on their way to a neighboring state when their car broke. Somehow they ended up in the business park and were invited to get a Rosary and a pamphlet. They believed in Jesus but didn’t have a particular Church affiliation. We gave them a map of the local Catholic churches and invited them to feel free to attend.
  • Two Catholics, who attend public school, were with their mom. Both the boy and the girl accepted Rosaries. The girl listened politely to the explanation, but the evangelist was not sure she would actually pray it. Evangelist Mike talked with the mom and boy.
  • A woman and man, she stylishly dressed, came from the body art (tattoo) show being held in the arena. They headed to our table, where they each accepted a Rosary and its explanation.
  • A grandfather-grandson pair (the child perhaps 8 years old) stopped by. The grandfather “used to be” Catholic. He accepted the pamphlet on the Rosary (he already had a nice one at home, he said). He also accepted a map of local parishes and the invitation to begin attending again.
  • “Trevor”, a man accompanied by his sporting dog, originally said “no thank you” to the free Rosary. But when his dog balked at entering the fountain, the man circled back and came to talk to us. He accepted a Rosary, its booklet, and a map to area parishes.
  • Evangelist Mark joined us while his family played in the fountain in the middle of the square. The family is hoping to move to Europe for a couple of years while Mark gets his advanced degree in Theology. Please pray for safe travels for them.
  • A woman in her 20s, nicely dressed with bright red lipstick, was curious about the Rosaries. She said her grandmother was Catholic and prayed the Rosary. We invited her to start saying it as it would bring great peace into her life and she thought that would be a good idea.
  • “Sharon” (our wheelchair-using visitor from last week) had given away her previous Rosary and wanted yet another. Evangelist Lucy said the important thing was that she learned to pray it herself first before she gave it away. It turned out she was totally unfamiliar with it as a devotion, so went through it step by step. Please pray for her?
  • Altogether, we three evangelists gave away 15-20 Rosaries and its booklet, 2-3 Miraculous Medals, and 5-6 maps to area parishes
Please pray a little extra for us today? Today is annual convention for a particular style of cartoon art. Many participants show up in elaborate, colorful costumes. Unfortunately, many of those sport horns and tails. Also quite a number of the heartbreakingly young crowd are evidently dabbling in things better left alone. Yet, we’ve had some worthwhile encounters with participants in previous years. So, please pray that much good fruit for the Kingdom of God comes of today’s efforts?

The battle continues. So thank you again for your prayers. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and yours!

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day, our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not ,
into temptation but deliver us from evil,
Amen

Hail Mary,
Full of grace,
The Lord is with Thee.
Blessed art Thou amongst women, and
blessed is the fruit of Thy womb,
Jesus
Holy Mary
Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of death,
Amen

Attendees of the annual cartoon art convention sported lots of colorful costumes. Yet, there were NO horns or tails this year! Thank you, God! Thank you, prayer warriors!
  • A man, “Tory”, maybe late 20s or early 30s, came over as we began to set up. He asked if he could pray for us. Evangelist Lucy asked him whom he prayed to. He thought it made no difference, so she changed the subject and offered him a free Rosary, which he was thrilled to receive. He also accepted its how-to pamphlet and a brief explanation of the meditation.
  • A grandmother with two under-six children gladly responded to our offer of a free Rosary. The woman made sure both children were set up with a Rosary. Asked if she wanted one, she said, “I’m Catholic, I have plenty at home!” Evangelist Lucy asked her to teach the devotion to the two children and to keep us in her prayers.
  • A man and woman (20-somethings) in swashbuckler costumes stopped to receive a Rosary. He was raised in a pseudo-Christian cult, and so had heard of Jesus (a version of Him, anyway), but was searching for the Truth. From out of town, he declined receiving a Catechism, but was glad to know the resource existed. The woman received a Rosary and explanation from evangelist Mike.
  • A woman, part of a group of five people sitting at one of picnic tables, came over for a Rosary. She and her relatives were out “people watching”. The woman carefully selected a Rosary for each person and for herself, accepted the pamphlets that describe the devotion, then went to distribute them to her group. Evangelist Mike also went over to greet them.
  • Several other family groups stopped to receive a free Rosary. Many were non-Catholic Christians, but open to learning the Rosary.
  • Two young men in their mid-teens stopped by. One was Catholic but not really going regularly to Mass. He took a Rosary and pamphlet but his friend declined.
  • A man and his girlfriend (perhaps early 30s) stopped. They came from a nearby state to attend the convention. He is a sporadic attendee of Mass. His family had immigrated from a war-torn country, and he said that, in his hometown, he went to Mass with his grandparents and a large community from that same nation. His girlfriend took a Rosary and its pamphlet.
  • Altogether, the evangelists gave away at least 30-40 Rosaries and its booklet, and a few Miraculous Medals and maps of area parishes.
Please pray for us again today? Please ask God to send people to us ready to learn of Our Savior Jesus Christ and His Church. Please ask God to grant us evangelists all we need to reach each soul for Him.

God has blessed our apostolate again with peace! So thank you so much for your ongoing prayers and support. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and yours!

New people encounter us each week, thanks to your ongoing prayers for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization effort.
  • A woman from a nearby state asked for a Catholic study Bible. All we had left was a pocket-sized NAB. So evangelist Lucy showed her its footnotes and cross-references, and she gladly received it.
  • A woman came to the table after she had taken her dog through the fountain. From a Catholic background, she told us she used to be wheelchair bound due to a serious ankle injury. She had regained use of her foot, but now was again in danger of losing it due to poor circulation. The three of us evangelists all gathered around and prayed for her. Will you pray, too, that the painful situation is resolved? She accepted a map of local parishes as well as a Rosary and its pamphlet.
  • A strongly Catholic man in his 20s, accompanied by his non-Catholic fiancée, told us they were scheduled to get married July 19 at one of the local parishes. He, at one point, came around the table and joined evangelist Mark in talking with another visitor, recommending the local Newman Center to him. She, meanwhile, conversed with evangelist Mike. They each accepted a Miraculous Medal. Please pray for them?
  • We recognized “Walt” passing by, though he seemed preoccupied and hadn’t noticed us. Evangelist Mike went to greet him and was rewarded with a five-minute outburst of the man’s woes. Walt was mad at God and not to be calmed down. After he had taken off, the three of us prayed for him. Would you also please pray that Walt doesn’t lose his faith, no matter what?
  • A man from out of state was in Boise visiting his daughter-in-law. His son, in the military, is deployed to an active war zone. We evangelists prayed for the son’s safety and for the family. The father accepted a Rosary and its pamphlet from us.
  • An exotic-looking woman on a bike, who didn’t profess any particular religious affiliation, was happy to receive a Rosary and a map of local parishes. She seemed inclined to attend Mass that very evening.
  • This was the last foreseeable visit by evangelist Mark and his family. Mark is moving his family overseas, where he will be taking advanced theological studies. Please remember them in your prayers?
  • Altogether, the three evangelists gave away about 20 Rosaries, at least 2 Miraculous Medals, 1 Catholic Bible, and 2-3 maps of area parishes.
Please pray for us again today? We plan to set up downtown in just a couple of hours from now. Please ask God to send people to us prepared to perceive their need for Our Savior Jesus Christ and His Church, and that He grant all we need to reach each soul for Him.

More people are seeing us for the first time. So thank you again so much for your prayers and other support! In turn, may God protect and bless you and yours!

God loves the mentally ill, too, and several are feeling confident enough to come talk to us. So thank you so much for your prayers for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization effort.
  • We had yet another return visit from “Walt”, who got caught up again in his tales of persecution. Evangelist Mike (may God bless him!) took over the hour-long conversation. We stopped at a couple of points to ask him to pray with us. Didn’t seem to help. He seems to be suffering from an untreated mental illness.
  • “Sharon” came by again while evangelist Lucy was beginning to listen to Walt. Lucy had to say no to her request for yet another Rosary. She hasn’t shown any interest in learning how to pray them, goes for our fanciest ones, and says she immediately gives them away to a friend.
  • A man stopped by late in the session. He started to choose a Rosary for himself, then asked if he could have a second one for someone else. Evangelist Lucy had to tell him no. So he chose a heart-shaped pink one for his sister, “Ann”, who is suffering due to her husband’s recent suicide. Please pray for Ann? After the man left, Lucy interrupted Walt and evangelist Mike’s conversation to ask them to join in prayer for Ann. May the soul of Ann’s late husband rest in peace. May God grant peace and healing to Ann. May God bless her brother, a non-Catholic Christian, for wanting to offer his sister the Rosary for her comfort.
  • A man, dressed in dark gray, muttering odd words in a deep almost-whisper, selected a Rosary but not its pamphlet. He traced a symbol on the face of Jesus on one of our signs as he left. May God free him from whatever he’s involved in. I don’t think it’s good.
  • A man and his wife passed by. When evangelist Lucy offered him a free Rosary, he confided that he was Catholic and had “nearly a collection of them” at home. She asked him to pray one of them for us, and hinted that if he could part with any of them, he was welcome to bring them to us any Sunday. That’s when he let us know they lived in a distant state and were only in Boise for a short visit. Then he picked up the Catechism and said, wistfully, that it was more up-to-date than the one he had at home. Lucy let him take it.
  • A nicely dressed man stopped by. His conversation, though, consisted of phrases that didn’t quite come together in any way that made sense. He did accept a Rosary.
  • Altogether, we gave away 10-15 Rosaries and its booklet, and one Catechism and one Gospel According to St. Luke.
Please pray for us again today? I plan to set up downtown in just a couple of hours from now. Please ask God to send people to us ready to perceive their need for Our Savior Jesus Christ and the Church that He founded, Please ask God to grant that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s effort?

God holds the ill in His hands, and we try to treat them, too, with compassion and mercy. So thank you again for your prayers and support that make it possible to continue our apostolate! In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and yours!

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” ( 2 Cor 12:9).

Remember,
O most gracious Virgin Mary that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, Implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly to you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.
To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in Thy mercy hear and answer me, Amen

“Maybe tomorrow. Maybe later.” People may seem reluctant to commit to Jesus and the Church that He founded but, thanks to your on-going prayers and support for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization effort, they at least learn of the choice in a peaceful, respectful way.
  • The session was on the US holiday called “Father’s Day”. It had rained heavily that morning and the weather stayed cool and damp, so foot traffic was light despite the holiday. However, thanks be to God, the rain stayed stopped for the entire session.
  • A man stopped to get a free Rosary. He wasn’t Christian. He stopped me, though, from talking more about Christianity. “Not today,” he said. “Maybe tomorrow, but not today.” Please ask God to grant the man that “tomorrow”?
  • Very late in the session, a father with four pre- and early-teen daughters stopped at our table. Already Catholic, the girls each chose a Rosary. I encouraged the father to have them pray it together as a family. Two more families stopped immediately after that, so I gave away 8-10 Rosaries in just those couple of minutes.
  • I had a two-minute conversation with now-frequent visitor “Walt”, a chronically down-and-out man. He had a dog with him this time, in a cobbled-together harness. He “rescued” it, he said, after seeing it running loose several times on a major street across town. He planned on Monday to find out if it is micro-chipped. Please pray again that Walt is freed from a lifetime of resentment and dreams of revenge and that he turns instead to his only true hope, Our Savior, Jesus Christ.
  • A Catholic family stopped, but the parents discouraged the children from taking anything. I started talking to the mom about the Miraculous Medal, giving her one. She sighed and pulled out her purse, but I stopped her. “No, it really is free”, I told her. So hard for people to understand. And yet salvation itself is totally free. May God grant that everyone accept His loving gift!
  • Another, very actively Catholic family from a far-distant state stopped at our table. The girls go to Catholic school there. Again, I set as many of them up with a Rosary as would take one and encouraged them to pray it as a family.
  • The wind picked up again and the weather worsened at our usual closing time. Still, we gave away 15-20 Rosaries, 5-6 Miraculous Medals, 1 map of area parishes with Mass and Reconciliation times listed, and 1 copy of our Good News/kerygma pamphlet.
Please pray for us again today? We plan to set up downtown in just a couple of hours from now. Please ask God to send people to us prepared to perceive their need for Jesus Christ and the Church that He founded. Please ask God to grant us evangelists all we need to reach each soul for Him and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s efforts.

God may grant no more “tomorrows”, so thank you for your prayers and other support for our timely apostolate. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and yours!

Sometimes, God lets us see Him doing the impossible. So thank you so much for your ongoing prayers for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization effort!
  • A woman, “Christie”, stopped. Her opening salvo was that she “used to be” Catholic, but now she worked for a law firm and so knew that “all” the priests were abusing “all” the children. I said I was so sorry that any of that had ever happened, but it didn’t mean that the Church ever condoned or taught that sinful behavior. (You know the conversation, right?) But suddenly – I don’t know how or why – Christie broke down in tears and said she wanted to believe. She asked if it would be okay to pray a “doubter’s prayer”, such as, “God, if you exist, please show me.” I assured her that God had answered that prayer for many people. God knows exactly what each person needs for their salvation and I encouraged her to keep her eyes open. Then she started talking about her son, “Evan”, who used to be an honor student but, since a major brain injury, now makes poor decisions and is often in trouble with the law. She said her relatives urge her to turn him out on the streets. I validated her decision that withdrawing her protection from a brain-damaged adult would be irresponsible and immoral. By the end of the conversation, she had taken a copy of “Basic Catholic Prayers” to refresh her memory of some prayers she learned in childhood (significantly, she was trying to remember the “Act of Contrition”), a Rosary and its pamphlet for a daughter-in-law, a Rosary pamphlet for herself, and a copy of the St. Bridget devotion brochure, the cover of which shows Mary holding the then-lifeless body of Christ, tears streaming down her face from eyes bruised with sorrow. The picture promised Christie the compassion of Our Blessed Mother who, even with a perfect son, suffered so much. Only God could have reached this heart – and He did! Please pray for Christie and Evan?
The rest of the session seemed ordinary, but who knows what beautiful fruit God may grow from the seeds?
  • Altogether, I gave away 5-7 Rosaries, 2 Miraculous Medals, 1 “Basic Catholic Prayers” pamphlet, 1 “Good News”/kerygma pamphlet, and 1 St Bridget of Sweden (12-years prayer) folder.
Please pray for us again today? I plan to set up downtown in just a couple of hours from now. Again, please pray that God sends people with their eyes and hearts open to perceive their need for Our Savior Jesus Christ and the Church that He founded. Please ask God to reach each soul for Himself and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of our effort today.

Conversion – the 180-degree turn of one’s life back to God – is a work only He can do. And He sometimes uses us in it! So thank you again for all of your prayers and other support that make our apostolate possible! In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and yours!
