“To Jesus through Mary”, thanks to your ongoing prayer support for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization effort. God bless you!
  • A man accepted a Rosary for his son, who was at that moment in a hockey game in the arena.
  • A couple of families passing by allowed one or more of their children to accept a Rosary and its booklet, though the parents stood at a distance. May God bring those entire families to Him through their children’s natural attraction to the Good.
  • A couple of Catholics passing by claimed to have “plenty of Rosaries” at home. One of them answered “I do!” when I asked him to “pray it once for us out here.” May God bless all of you prayer warriors!
  • A man accepted a Rosary “for his grandmother.” May her prayers for his salvation be answered. Soon!
  • A family stopped to claim Rosaries. Urged to pray it as a family every day, the mother said they already did. Then, why did they need more Rosaries? Go figure.
  • A repeat visitor, the woman on her lived-in bicycle, accepted a copy of the Gospel of St Luke this time and encouragement to spend time reading it every day. She also asked for (and received) a “What About Mary?” pamphlet. Please pray for her?
  • Toward the end of the session, I had the privilege of giving a kerygma pamphlet to the one person in each of two groups who admitted they were not Christian. They had already agreed to “try the Rosary” for the “unexplainable (by natural means, anyway) experience of peace” it offers. May God open their eyes and show them His Love!!!
  • The good weather brought out sporadic foot traffic, and people in a positive mood. It was somewhat breezy, though, and one of our signs kept falling over. But, twice, a passerby helped me stand it back up while I held down the pamphlets on the table. Both times, the helper was a person who had declined the offer of a Rosary. May God bless them and bring them home to Him!
  • Altogether, I gave away about 15-20 Rosaries and its booklet, 2-3 Good News/kerygma pamphlets, 1 Gospel According to St. Luke, and 1 “What about Mary?” pamphlet.
Please pray for us again today? I plan to set up downtown in just an hour or so from now. Fr. Tom and Evangelist Mike are planning to join me. So, please ask God to send people to us prepared to perceive their need for Our Savior Jesus Christ and the Holy Catholic Church that He founded for our salvation. Please ask God to grant that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s effort.

Encouraging even Catholics to take their Faith a step deeper, thanks to your prayers and other support for our apostolate. Thank you so much! In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and yours!

On the first feast day of St. Paul VI, patron of evangelization, three evangelists shared their Faith. So thank you for your ongoing prayers for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization effort. Fr. Tom joined evangelists Mike and Lucy in the adventure.
  • Repeat visitor, homeless “Katherine”, stopped briefly. She asked Fr. Tom to pray for her. He began to, but she suddenly accused herself of being selfish for asking, and took off.
  • Later, another homeless woman stopped for a Rosary. She could barely speak. But, learning about the Rosary, she brightened up. Evangelist Lucy suggested she look at the pictures in the Rosary booklet, and pray this short prayer on each bead, “Jesus, have mercy on me!”. She seemed willing to.
  • A bi-lingual family stopped. Each of the four children accepted a Rosary. Then, when the mother was offered one with a Miraculous Medal attached to it, she told the story (her daughter interpreting) of a time in Mexico when she was six years old. Torrential rains had already caused injuries and damage. So parishioners of Our Lady of the Sea parish took the statue of Mary and processed it around the beach, where the waters had risen. The rains stopped. And a procession is still held there every year in memory of God’s timely help. Fr. Tom then said that the oldest son, “Emanuel”, could become a priest. That evoked a wave of excitement, since this was the third priest who had told him that. Fr. Tom prayed for him and blessed him.
  • A man had been sitting at table, watching us. Evangelist Mike went over to offer him a Rosary. The man started ranting about the abuses of the Catholic Church, but was unwilling to listen. After he got his views "off his chest" he got on his bike and rode off.
  • Evangelist Mike gave a Rosary and its pamphlet to “Jake” and “Maki”, the two employees at a local coffee shop. They had asked what he was doing that afternoon, and both seemed genuinely grateful for the Rosaries and pamphlet. Pray for “Jake” and “Maki” and their journey to God.
  • A non-Catholic Christian woman stopped, curious about the Rosary. She eagerly accepted its being meditations on the life of Jesus, and appreciated the Bible references in its pamphlet. She told the story of her son’s miraculous recovery from an accident in which he died twice, once in the helicopter and once on the operating table. Successfully resuscitated both times, his near-death experiences strengthened his faith as well as that of his mom.
  • Altogether, the three evangelists gave away about 20-25 Rosaries, 1 brown Scapular, 1-2 pamphlets on Suffering., 1 Good News/kerygma pamphlet, and 1 map of area parishes.
Please pray for us again today? I plan to set up downtown in just about an hour from now. Please ask God to send people to us prepared to perceive their need for Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church, and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s efforts.

Thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and yours. St. Paul VI, patron of evangelization, pray for us.

Seeing new hope arising in people’s eyes, thanks to your prayers for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization effort.
  • The spokeswoman for the group setting up an event in the center of the business plaza, pointed to the Bibles and pamphlets I had just set out on our table, and said, “We don’t want any of that stuff going on here.” I moved our table down the middle of the south spoke of the business park, where business was brisk.
  • Several Hispanic families (one with 6 children) stopped, each receiving a Rosary and the encouragement to pray it together as a family.
  • A man, wearing an anti-God t-shirt, stopped. The large tattoos on his arms featured bat-winged creatures. He wanted a Rosary and took some time in choosing one. But at first, he declined receiving the pamphlet. “I know the ‘mysteries’,” he said, apparently referring to a spirituality alien to Jesus Christ. But, as I described the peace that people report back to me, that happens when they actually try the Rosary, a light of hope suddenly came on in his eyes. (Love that!) He then accepted the pamphlet that shows how to pray it. May God lead him back into the light!
  • A pre-teen boy wanted a Rosary, but had been told by his dad that it was “bad luck” to wear it around his neck. I encouraged him to thread it through a belt loop and tuck it in his pants pocket. A bit later, he came back and asked for some more Rosaries “for his friends.” I encouraged him to bring them by, since I was allowed to give only one Rosary out per person. A few minutes later, his two friends arrived and gladly accepted Rosaries for themselves. May God bless the young evangelist!
  • Our former evangelist Joey stopped by to say hello, and to introduce his wife and their 6-month-old son.
  • Several groups of teens stopped, as a lark at first, but became intrigued by the promise of “unexplained experience of peace” that comes with actually sitting down and praying the Rosary. Many seemed willing to actually try it.
  • Altogether, I gave away 20-25 Rosaries, a couple of the “Praying to the Saints” pamphlets (1 English, 1 Spanish), and 1 map of area parishes.
Please pray for us again today? I plan to head downtown soon. Please ask God to send people to us prepared to perceive their need for Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. Please ask God to grant much good fruit for His Kingdom from today’s efforts.

Jesus is the source of real hope. So thank you again for your prayers and support for this apostolate. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and yours!

Remember,
O most gracious Virgin Mary that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly to you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.

To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful.

O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in Thy mercy hear and answer me, Amen.

Sorry I’ve been very busy lately…
Here’s one for the team!
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, Amen!

Can novelty satisfy? We offer news of the One Who can, thanks to your ongoing prayers for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization effort. Last week, three evangelists participated!
  • “Michael Joseph” and his wife, repeat visitors, were heading to a monthly free picnic. Michael spoke with Fr. Tom about the phenomena happening in his house ever since certain neighbors moved in. Evangelist Lucy gave him a blessed St. Benedict’s medal. Michael, an inactive Catholic, thinks of himself as a good person and doesn’t see how he became vulnerable to such a manifestation. (Perhaps missing Mass on Sundays is not such a little thing?)
  • “Ky-noah”, a man in his late 20s or early 30s, stopped at evangelist Mike’s greeting. Ky-noah’s coat and hands were stained with blue ink and his face was scratched. He also acted as if his hands hurt, especially his left one. He was shaking slightly and, when asked, said he was very depressed. Evangelist Mike asked if we could pray with him. Yes. Fr. Tom then led a beautiful prayer. Before Ky-noah took his leave, he accepted a Rosary.
  • A Catholic mother, with a boy about 4 years old and a baby in the stroller, stopped for a Rosary for the boy. Evangelist Lucy gave the mom a copy of the Rosary pamphlet and urged her to pray it as a family.
  • A young couple stopped and got Rosaries and its pamphlet. They immediately placed the Rosaries around their necks, so they would be in plain sight and remind others to pray it.
  • Another mother, with a tiny baby strapped to her and a little boy a her side, stopped so the boy could get a Rosary. The mother is Catholic; her husband was in the arena playing hockey. She didn’t stay long because it was “feeding time”.
  • Two women, perhaps in their late teens or early 20s, were out for a photo shoot. They stopped and each accepted a Rosary and pamphlet. The woman without the camera wants to be a model – not an industry known for its respect for the dignity of human persons. So please pray for her?
  • An older man on a bicycle stopped and got a Rosary and its pamphlet. He also got a holy card featuring the Divine Mercy image.
  • Lots of teenagers and young adults were zipping around on the new electric scooters that just became available for rent. Not a single one stopped for a Rosary. What is it in us that prefers novelty over Him Whose love is changeless? (cf. Acts 17:21ff)
  • Though heavily overcast, it didn’t rain, thank God, and so lots of people were out (though not a steady stream). Altogether, the three evangelists gave away 20-25 Rosaries and its pamphlet, 1 St Benedict medal, and 1 Divine Mercy prayer card.
Please pray for us again today? I plan to set up downtown in just about an hour from now. Please ask God to send us people who recognize their need for Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church, and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes from today’s effort.

Following Jesus Christ is the most fulfilling adventure possible. And so we thank you again so much for your prayers and other support for this apostolate! In turn, may God protect and bless you and yours!

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him we humbly pray, and do Thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell satan and all the evil spirits that roam around the world seeking the ruin of souls, Amen

More people were introduced to the Rosary last weekend, thanks to your ongoing prayers for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization effort. Two evangelists were available.
  • A bunch of young people were riding electric scooters, but only the one walking with his parents actually talked to us. (From him, evangelist Mike found out that the scooters cost 15-20 cents a minute, which possibly explains why so few want to spend time talking with us.) That mother, though, was pleased to report that they had gotten her son into a local Catholic school, and how much calmer and more disciplined things were there. The boy accepted a Rosary and its booklet.
  • A few teenage girls stopped by, late in the session. One of them seemed interested in the explanation of the Rosary. I explained how the peace people experience with it is not explainable by natural means. For example, if someone spent an hour a day walking through every detail of a crime they knew about, we’d guess they’d not end up a healthier human being. But, with Jesus, it is different: those who spend time meditating upon his Passion and Death notice that often a sense of peace and an uplifting of spirits result. Intrigued, the young woman accepted the pamphlet to go with her chosen Rosary.
  • A man and woman stopped. She said she wanted to listen to us because she “is tolerant of everyone’s beliefs”. However, she showed no actual interest in what we were saying.
  • A group of 3 pre-teen boys stopped. Two of them each accepted a Rosary and its booklet, but I don’t think they “got” what it is all about. Blessed Mother, please help them?
  • Two teenage girls came running up to the table to see if they could get a Rosary. One said she was Catholic and the other a non-Catholic Christian. The non-Catholic didn’t really want a Rosary if it was “just a Catholic thing”, but we told her it was a Bible-based prayer tool.
  • An apparently financially disadvantaged woman, in perhaps her late 20s, and was interested in the Rosaries. She decided not to get one but said that they were “very pretty”. (Another big thank you to our Rosary makers!)
  • Two women stopped briefly, but were in a hurry to get to a luncheon. One accepted a Rosary, but the other one wanted to think about it.
  • Though the sun was shining, not too many people were out and about. Still, about 10 people accepted a Rosary and its pamphlet. We also gave away one map of area parishes.
Please pray for us again today? I plan to head downtown soon. Please ask God to send people to us prepared to perceive their need for Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. May much good fruit for His Kingdom come of today’s efforts!

Now into our 7th year of weekly evangelization, we still encounter people unfamiliar with the Rosary. but who express willingness to try the devotion. May Our Blessed Mother lead them closer to her Son. So thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate! In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and yours!

Confidently standing in Faith, thanks to your prayers for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization effort. Thanks, too, for your messages of encouragement and support you prayer warriors over the last few weeks. They are very appreciated!
  • A man, in his mid- to late-30s stopped, something clearly on his mind . He was not Catholic. Christian? “Not really.” But he’d had an unsettling experience the night before. Sitting on a hilltop, he’d been mentally going over a relationship that had just ended. As he reached the end of his ruminations, an owl started hooting at him from a tree only about 15 feet away. It was also staring right at him, he said. I asked what effect the experience had on him. It has led him to seek a greater understanding of Jesus Christ and of Christianity. I set him up with a Rosary and its pamphlet, a Good News/kerygma pamphlet, and encouraged him to read the Bible he had at home. He said he’d tried to read his Bible the night before and, opening it at random, it always opened to the Gospel of St. Luke. So I encouraged him to start there.
  • While I was talking with this visitor, a man was thumbing through a Catechism from our table. I told him to feel free to take it. But instead, he evidently settled on a copy of the pocket-sized Gospel According to St. Luke. St. Luke, please pray for these two men?
  • A young man in his teens, zipping by on a skateboard, called back to me his non-belief in Jesus. Pray for him?
  • A couple, perhaps in their 30s, stopped. Claiming to be Catholic, the man hadn’t connected with a parish because he “had just moved here” from across the country. So I gave him a copy of the map of area parishes. They each accepted a Rosary and its booklet, the woman also listening to a quick explanation of the devotion.
  • A non-Catholic Christian youth pastor, heading into the hockey arena, happily accepted a Rosary and its booklet. The two people with him declined.
  • When I arrived, lots of people were going through the square, but the crowd thinned to almost nothing by the time I set up. The foot traffic remained fairly sparse throughout the session. Then, just as I finished packing up, crowds poured out of the arena and from elsewhere. But I was too tired by that time to set back up. Sorry. Still, during the session, I gave away about 20 Rosaries and its pamphlet, 1 Gospel of St Luke, 1 Good News/kerygma pamphlet, 1 “Praying to the Saints” FAQ brochure, and 1-2 maps of area parishes.
Please pray for us again today? Please ask God to send people to us prepared to perceive their need for Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church, and that He grant that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s efforts?

Jesus Christ is real and He is alive! We confidently get to proclaim that, if only with our continued visible presence. So thank you again so much for your prayers, encouragement, and support for this apostolate. I rely on your intercession before the throne of God. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and yours!

Jesus Christ is still the answer, though most folks may no longer know that He’s what the giant Christmas tree stands for, as it dominates the center of “our” business park. Still, we try to introduce people to Him, thanks to your ongoing prayers for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization effort! Three evangelists were available last week.
  • A woman and her grandson stopped by the table. She already had “lots of Rosaries.” Evangelist Lucy offered her a copy of the pamphlet to use with non-Catholic Christians, since it shows where in the Bible to find each Mystery. The woman said, “I can use that myself”, and took the pamphlet.
  • A pre-teen boy, making a beeline for a nearby restaurant, stopped when Evangelist Mike offered him a free Rosary. Asked if he and his family were Christian, the boy said no. We set him up with a Rosary and its pamphlet, as well as a copy of the Good News/kerygma pamphlet.
  • Two men stopped when one expressed interest in the Rosary. Although they appeared to be practicing a lifestyle incompatible with Christianity, we still set them each up with a Rosary and its pamphlet. Please pray that Our Lady obtains for them healing, conversion of heart, and salvation?
  • A group of three people stopped at our table when Fr. Tom called, “Free Rosary!” Two accepted a Rosary and its pamphlet.
  • A married couple stopped by on their way into the convention center. They were helping to decorate a tree for our local Catholic radio station, to be displayed today during the annual family event, the Festival of Trees. Since the man was wearing a Knights of Columbus cap, evangelist Lucy asked him if he could help us get permission to print more of the Knights’ now out-of-print Rosary pamphlet. (Although we had run out of those pamphlets a week or so ago, she had found another packet of them just that morning.) The man took a copy of the pamphlet with him.
  • A woman, part of a group of young adults on electric scooters, came over to us and got a Rosary and its pamphlet. She then rejoined the rest of her group.
  • Another couple stopped. She accepted a beautiful blue “chain Rosary”, while he chose one made out of string. The baseball cap he was wearing made it difficult for him to put the Rosary over his head. But may God bless his effort to display the Rosary so it can remind others to pray it!
  • Although the sun was shining, foot traffic was light and we seemed to experience a slightly higher than typical rejection rate. Still, the three of us were able to give away 12-15 Rosaries and its pamphlet, as well as one copy of the kerygma.
Please pray for us again today? Please ask God to send people to us prepared to perceive their need for Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. May sinners be converted and may much good fruit for His Kingdom come of today’s efforts!

Jesus is alive and people still need Him. So thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate! In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and yours!

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, Implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly to you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.

To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in Thy mercy hear and answer me, Amen.

A softening of hearts was perceptible, perhaps due to the major annual Christmas event going on in the convention center. So thank you again for your ongoing prayers for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization effort.

The event was the quasi-official opening weekend of the Christmas season here in Boise: a fundraiser that celebrates the Christmas season with competing displays of elaborately decorated trees and continuous music featuring local youth choirs. Foot traffic was almost continuous.
  • A two-family group stopped: 2 moms and 4 children. The Catholic mom mentioned a now-deceased diocesan priest, who happened to be known and admired by both of us. The mom told of how he came and anointed her when she was “almost dying of an aneurysm”. Her medical problem is now totally gone. All four of the children accepted a Rosary and the moms received encouragement to pray it together as a family.
  • A man stopped to say he was a street preacher, too. But the spirituality he promotes is alien to Christianity. God help him!
  • A burly, heavily bearded dad, accompanied by a tiny toddler girl, chose a Rosary. He came back a few minutes later to say his Rosary was too small to wear around his neck. So, he replaced it and picked up a feminine one for his daughter, and put it on her. After checking out the rest of today’s selection, he turned to leave. I told him he could also loop a Rosary through a belt loop and put it in his pocket. He liked the idea, and again chose his original selection. He looped it around his wrist.
  • Many Catholic families encouraged their children to take a Rosary. Also receiving a copy of the booklet describing the devotion, the families were each encouraged to pray it together daily as a family. Several of them said they already do!
  • Several non-Catholic Christian families stopped. They seemed to feel encouraged when I showed them where the Mysteries are in the Bible, and when they heard that other non-Catholic Christians have come back to say it’s helped them walk closer with Jesus.
  • People from a couple of different groups asked me what church I was with. “The Catholic Church.” “I mean, which parish?” I told them. Turns out both groups were from the same parish, across town from “mine”.
  • God granted nice weather and plentiful foot traffic. A higher proportion of the visitors to the business park consisted of families with pre-teen children, and a higher proportion of Catholic families stopped at our table. I ended up giving away 25-35 Rosaries and its brochure, as well as one copy of the map of area parishes.
Please pray for us again today? I plan to head downtown in just a couple of hours. Please ask God to prepare people to perceive their need for Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. Please ask God to grant that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s effort?

Jesus truly is the “reason for the season” and hearts sometimes soften toward Him. So thank you again for your ongoing prayers and support for this apostolate. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and yours!

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Heb 13:8).

Every human person is priceless in God’s eyes. So thank you again for your prayers for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization effort. One evangelist was available.
  • A light, but constant drizzle of snow (or, should I say, “slush”) made everything unusually damp for Boise. The wind also kept shifting, so it was impossible to keep the table and its materials out of the quickly melting snow that blew in under the overhang, first from one direction and then the other. Boiseans tend to stay indoors whenever the weather is unpleasant, so foot traffic was sparse, and people were in a hurry.
  • I ended up having only three people stop at our table. And all three of the encounters were very brief, with no interest in anything but acquiring their free Rosary.
  • Still, I gave away 3 Rosaries and its pamphlet to people who didn’t already have one. May Our Blessed Lady lead each one into the arms of her Son!
Please pray for us again today? The sun is currently out and temperatures seem to have risen to a comparatively pleasant level. I plan to head downtown in just an hour or two from now. Please ask God to send people to us with their hearts prepared to perceive their need for Jesus Christ and His Catholic Church. Please ask God to grant the evangelists all they need to lead each soul closer to Him and to the salvation only He can give. Please ask God to grant that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s efforts.

Not a “numbers game”, every soul is important to God. So thank you again for your ongoing prayers and other support for this apostolate. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and yours!

For your great work…
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, Fatima, Amen…

Jesus’ message is still sometimes hard to hear. So thank you again for your prayers for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization effort, as well as for your words of encouragement! They are both very much needed!
  • Competing sound systems in the square lent a slight sense of chaos to the atmosphere. But at least the park’s sound system was piping Christmas music, if only the secular kind.
  • A twenty-something man stopped by. He said he already had a Rosary. Asked if he were Catholic, he hesitated. Then he explained that he was looking at a lot of different religions and expressed belief that they were “all the same.” I encouraged him to actually sit down and pray the Rosary, delving deep into each Mystery, if only to help him clarify his questions. He then accepted the Rosary pamphlet, though politely declining the map to area parishes. Please pray for him? He may be one of our own “lost sheep.”
  • A man strode past, extending a horn-like gesture with his hand in answer to my offer of a Rosary. May God bless him and lead him home to Jesus Christ!
  • A nicely dressed man stopped by in answer to my offer of a free Rosary. A non-Catholic Christian, he also accepted a copy of our pamphlet that shows where in the Bible to find each Mystery. I encouraged him to sit down and actually pray it, since several non-Catholic Christians have stopped by again to say it actually helps them walk closer with Christ.
  • A couple came to our table because the woman was interested in receiving a Rosary. The man stood back. After she had chosen a Rosary, I offered one to her husband as well. “You need to take one,” his wife declared, and chose one for him. She also took the second copy of the offered pamphlet. Please pray for them?
  • Several groups of people stopped at the giant Christmas tree to select a community gift-request tag. Only one or two out of all these people also came to our table.
  • The sun was out, and the temperature was warm enough that people’s breath remained invisible. So, there was a bit more foot traffic than last week. Altogether, I set 4-5 people up with a Rosary and the pamphlet describing the devotion. Plus, I gave away another copy of the Rosary pamphlet as well.
Please pray for us again today? I plan to head downtown in just a couple of hours from now. A first-time evangelist may be joining us. Please ask God to send people to us, their hearts prepared to perceive their need for Jesus Christ and His holy Catholic Church. Please ask God to grant all we need to reach each soul for Him, and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s effort.

“Repent, and believe in the Gospel” (Mark 1:15), is a message sometimes hard to hear, especially in an atmosphere that promotes “holly, jolly” self-indulgence. Still, even our nonverbal presence proclaims it. So, thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and your loved ones!
