Hail Mary, Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee,
Blessed art thou amongst women
and Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners, now
and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Thank you, chero23 for your words of encouragement and prayer! (And if you want a handy apologetics resource, be sure to check out the link in chero23’s signature.)

And a big thank you to EVERYONE who has been lifting up the Boise Catholic street evangelization team in prayer. Please send up prayers for us again today. We’re heading downtown again in just a few hours, but the park where we’ve been setting up now has a large portion of it blocked off as a construction site for a new office building. Therefore, fewer people are using the park or even venturing through it.

So please pray that God grants us wisdom and discernment about whether we should set up someplace else on Sunday afternoons (and where). Please also pray that God will send people to us today, wherever we are, with hearts prepared and open to take a serious look at their need for Jesus Christ and the Church He founded, and that He will grant us all the graces we need to reach each of these precious souls effectively.

Also, if another prayer request is not too many: we now have a team member who seems to be available only on Tuesday evenings. So, would you also please pray that we are guided about where to set up for that day of the week (it can’t be in the park)? Thank you and may God continue to bless you and yours!

Thank you once again for all of your prayers and encouragement! Here are some quick stories from our Catholic street evangelization session in Boise last Sunday:

One woman with a young family stopped by. She reported that both of her parents, each Catholic for more than 50 years, had just left the Church for Mormonism. Asked how that was affecting her, the woman admitted that she had begun to wonder if perhaps they were right and that she was being tempted to follow them. One of our evangelists told her that, no, perhaps her role was to stand strong and be the one to draw them out of error and back into the True Faith. Oh, it was wonderful to see light come into the woman’s eyes as she straightened up and stood tall. Our other evangelist gave her a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and encouraged her to begin reading it. There is a public fountain in the park and, as her children were playing in it, we were delighted to see her sitting a table studying the Catechism! She’s not alone, but the enemy is probably trying to convince her that she is. So, PLEASE keep this woman and her family in your prayers.

Please also pray for a young homeless family who stopped by. Right now, they are staying at separate shelters – men’s and women’s. But the mother was raised Catholic and the father seemed very interested in making a connection to the Faith. We gave them directions to the nearest Catholic church, with Mass times. We also gave the father a nice Bible and encouraged the family to begin to study it.

A third person I’d like to ask you for prayers for is a man who DIDN’T stop by, or even make eye contact. However, the way he clenched his jaw when one of our evangelists offered him a Rosary made her think the man might be tormented with a “hatred for God.” Whatever the source of his tension, please pray for him for deliverance, peace, and – of course – salvation.

Lastly, the Boise team is planning to go out this evening. This is both a new time for us and will be at a new location. Therefore, I feel a need for extra prayers–both for us and for all those who will encounter us. Your prayer support is critical. Thank you and may God bless you and yours.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Thank you for your prayers last Tuesday. With God’s help, it was an encouraging start to a new monthly location and time for the Boise Catholic street evangelization team. The team filed the following report about that evening:

The Boise team tried out a new time and location this evening. We were joined an evangelist who was in town from the San Francisco area. Thanks to wonderful prayer support, it turned out to be a worthwhile evening.

At first the weather was dark and blustery and so, since Boiseans are especially sensitive to weather, nobody was venturing outside. Therefore, we prayed the Rosary, asking God to send people to us. By the time we reached the fifth mystery, the wind had died down, the sun was shining, and people were venturing past. We were able to have several good conversations, inviting several people back to the practice of the Faith, and handing out a couple of maps with Mass and Reconciliation times. We gave a copy of the Catechism to one couple, where he’s a practicing Catholic and she’s a hurt ex-Mormon.

Probably our most dramatic encounter of the evening was the one with a maybe thirty-year-old man with many tattoos and face piercings, who gave his name as Ryan. Although he accepted a Rosary for his mother, he started out sounding jaded, fallen away, and leery of all religions. Our evangelist was able to walk him through understanding that not all wars are caused by religion – that, in fact, most of the mass killings perpetrated in the past century were done for political reasons, usually by atheistic state governments. After understanding this, Ryan seemed more open to considering religion, so the evangelist gave him one of SPSE’s Good News pamphlets, which nicely presents the kerygma.

When the evangelist then asked Ryan if there was something he would like us to pray with him for, he immediately asked for prayers for his 74-year-old mother, Sharon. Not letting an opportunity like that pass unheeded, the evangelist convinced Ryan that the best thing he could do to make his mother feel better was if he actually took the time to pray the Rosary with her. So we set Ryan up with his own Rosary (as well as Miraculous Medals for him and his mother). After that, we joined together in prayer, not only for Sharon, but also that Ryan could see God’s love at work in their lives. He responded with an enthusiastic, “Amen!”

Would you also please keep Ryan and his mother, Sharon, in your prayers this week?

Would you also please send up a prayer or two for the Boise team as we head downtown again soon? Please ask God to send people to us with their hearts prepared to take a serious look at their need for Jesus Christ and the Church He founded. Thank you so much, and may God bless you and yours.

Will pray for Ryan and his mother, as well as your evangelization team. Keep up the good work.

Thank you to all of you who have been praying for the Catholic street evangelization teams. Your prayers are being heard and it’s making a HUGELY positive difference! Here is a story from last week.

The Boise SPSE Catholic street evangelization team had barely begun handing out Rosaries when a man named Carl rode by. He saw our sign, braked hard, and circled back around to talk with us. His attitude was actually quite confrontational. He wanted us to explain Catholic teachings, such as Transubstantiation and the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, and do it by using Scripture alone. Yet, when the evangelists tried to make a start by leading him through texts in 1 Corinthians and John 6, Carl didn’t actually seem willing to listen. It was quite uncomfortable, but the evangelists persevered and kept trying. Before one evangelist had to leave, Carl did accept SPSE pamphlets on the Eucharist and Mary and Praying to the Saints.

The other evangelist was able to stay on, though, and she tried to get to the heart of what Carl’s real objection was. He kept coming back to the doctrine of Transubstantiation. It turns out that he was buying into the old scientism/materialism lie from the 18th century: that if you can’t measure something in a laboratory then it’s not really real and therefore not worth thinking about. The evangelist pointed out to him this error in his thinking. As an illustration that there are very important realities that can defy detection in a lab, she used the example of the love he had for his mom when he was a little boy . He offered a half-hearted objection, but then moved the discussion in a new direction. The deadlock was broken!

What Carl asked next was, does Jesus still do works of deliverance and miracles today? Absolutely! Jesus Christ is as alive today as He was on the Day of Resurrection 2000 years ago, and He hasn’t changed. So, Carl asked for evidence. That got the evangelist started. She began to tell story after story of just the miracles she had personally witnessed. She could sense Carl’s enthusiasm as well as his growing sense of camaraderie.

She was just building up a good head of steam when they were interrupted by a man who walked up to ask for prayer—for deliverance from bondage to alcohol. Carl, who is an active member of a non-Catholic Christian denomination, then stayed to help the Catholic evangelist witness Christ to this other non-Catholic Christian brother, Martin!

Our evangelist helped Martin remember that Jesus Christ had the power to heal him. She then helped him reach the best level of repentance he could and the commitment to cooperate with the grace available in Christ to make permanent and lasting changes in his life. She then led Martin, phrase by phrase, through the “Prayer of Consecration/Rededication to Christ” from SPSE’s Good News pamphlet. She left that pamphlet with him along with a small Catholic Bible.

Martin was scheduled to enter treatment the next morning. Carl headed home to fix Martin a sandwich and return. Please pray for both of these men: that Martin does cooperate with the grace he just received and becomes the man God designed him to be, that Carl is struck both by the Christian solidarity he experienced with a Catholic and by the real power available in the Church that Jesus Christ Himself founded, and that both of these men continue their journey all the way into the Catholic Church.

Please pray for the Boise team again today as we plan to head downtown in just a couple of hours. Please ask God to prepare the hearts of the people who encounter us to see the hope that is in Christ, to see the Catholic Church as the beautiful treasure she is, and to be moved to begin the process of joining her. We can’t do this without you. Souls are at stake.

One other special prayer request. Please send up a prayer for a woman named Linda. She asked to go to church with me tonight (to which I happily agreed), but then proceeded to tell me that the only two churches she wouldn’t go to were the Mormon and the Catholic ones. When I tried to explain to her that I am Catholic, she couldn’t seem to “hear” me. So, please pray. I’ll try again to make sure she understands where I’m taking her before she gets in the car. But she desperately needs Christ, and I want her to experience His Real Presence.

Thanks again. And may God continue to bless you and yours!

Thank you so much for your prayers again for us last week! God heard you and sent lots of people to us. Here is a report from one of the Boise team members:

Well we did have a WILD time. First we talked to a guy who says he is spiritual but not religious. He said all religions were equal. He seemed to be seeking, and he agreed to take a rosary and pray it. Next we talked with a guy who walked here from the airport and was tired, and he was Calvery Chapel. He asked us about Mary, the Catholic vs. Christian myth, biblical characters, and demonic influence. He dived at the St. Michael the Archangel prayer cards, and we told him to pray it. And we prayed with him for his mother, because his mother and him had some serious anger issues between them. Next, there was a woman who had come from a Spanish Mass. She took a rosary and seemed interested in coming out sometime. She gave us contact info. Also, another couple from our parish came and took a pamphlet on the existence of God, and gave us contact info. They wanted to come out as well. WOW two recruits. Anyway, next we talked to a homeless man who I guess one of our evangelists had prayed with before. He wanted a rosary, but said ours were “made for a child”. So I put down my own epic-looking metal-chained silver-crossed bigger rosary I had in my pocket and he took it. We prayed with him, we prayed the sinner’s prayer, and he took a St. Michael the Archangel prayer card. And a map of the Catholic churches with Mass times. He expressed interest in coming to our parish for Mass this evening. Maybe we will see him, maybe not, but he was even so bold to say he wanted to be baptized. In fact, he encouraged ME to follow Lord Jesus and be baptized, and I told him I was. He was also given money for a meal and told about the food bank at our parish. I think those are the major stories. we gave away a TON of rosaries to SO MANY people as well.

Oh and the Calvery Chapel guy who had walked from the airport started offering ppl rosaries as well as we were talking to him.

Also, there was the Catholic couple from a town about 50 miles away who want to start a Catholic street evangelization team there. They have already worked with their parish to purchase property across from the high school so they can offer religious classes to students like the Mormons have been doing.

We’re planning to head downtown again in just over an hour. PLEASE send up some more prayers for us and for the people who encounter us: that God will send us lots of people with their hearts prepared to give Jesus Christ and the Church He founded a serious look and that He will grant us the will, the manner, and the words to reach each of them effectively.

P.S. Please also continue to pray for my neighbor, Linda. For the second week, she has asked to go to church with me, but then she has refused to answer her door and instead filled up my voice mail with threats. My guess is she’s on the right track wanting to reconnect with “church” and therefore the enemy of her soul is beating her down something terrible. Please join me in prayer that she is given enough of a break from it all to get some serious prayer, to see the enemy’s attacks as the lies that they are, to rededicate her life to Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, and to learn for herself that she can “resist the devil and he will flee”.

Thank you. And may God continue to bless you and yours!

Thank you for your prayers for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization team last week. Except for the last five minutes, there was only one evangelist available. So would you please add a prayer that more team members are granted the grace and courage to come out and join us today? Here is a report from last week’s evangelist:

Thank you for your prayers! Lots and lots of Rosaries were given away – including one to a formerly Catholic “Christian witch”, who didn’t seem so pleased when I gave her a Good News and a Confession pamphlet. Please pray for her. Yes, “Christian witch” is an oxymoron and Jesus Himself warned that you can’t serve two masters. But please don’t laugh. These are very deceived women. They get sucked into it thinking it’s something innocent, something good. Then the enemy hooks them. Then their life goes downhill from there. This young woman still thinks she can leave anytime she wants. Again, your prayers, please.

Had return visits from “James” and “Martin” from previous weeks. Although James came early and helped set up the Rosaries, he had a keeper lady show up and he soon left to go see if some “nice people” would give him money. I wonder if that’s his “job”. Martin stopped by only long enough to accept a one-page handout citing short Scripture passages that counter the “I’m-no-good”, “I’ll-never-amount-to-anything”, “I’m-hopeless” lies that he’s probably fighting. He was also hoping to gather enough money for a bus ticket to somewhere else. Please continue to keep these two men in your prayers.

There were lots of other brief encounters. Lots of explaining what the Rosary is. Lots of positive reactions. Thanks again for your prayers.

We’re planning to head downtown again in just a few hours. But we can accomplish nothing without Him. That’s why your prayer support is so crucial. Please pray for us again today and for all those who encounter us: that hearts are moved to give Jesus Christ and the Church He founded the serious attention they deserve, that lives will be turned around, that souls will be saved, that God’s Will will be done in everything we do and in every word we speak.

Thank you and may God bless you and yours abundantly!

Good job keep up the good work. I know you guys are making a big difference with all the people that you guys come across.

May God bless chero23 and all of you who have been praying for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization team. Your prayers are making all the difference!

I have a special prayer request today. My parish is holding an “October Fest” this weekend. I have asked permission to have the team come and set up a booth there. When we are able to be present at parish functions, two things usually happen: we give away lots of brightly colored Rosaries to the kids, and we talk with lots of families who are concerned about how to reach their fallen-away loved ones. What I’m hoping for at this picnic is that we will also be given the opportunity to talk with a few of the non-Catholic family members themselves. But this is all going to take a lot of prayer. It’s not even a given that we’ll be allowed to have a visible presence there. This seems important, but we can do nothing without Christ.

So would you PLEASE join me in praying: that we get the permissions we need, that enough other evangelists will be available, and that we will be effective in reaching both Catholics and non-Catholic alike? Thank you for all of your prayers. May God in turn bless you and yours!
