Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, on earth as it is
in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive
us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass
against us. And lead us not into temptation but
deliver us from evil.
Amen

Thank you for your prayers about the Boise evangelization team being allowed to set up at my parish’s “October Fest” tomorrow. However, I just received a last-minute phone call from the parish office. They revoked their permission for us to be there. I’m disappointed and fighting hard not to feel bitter. I’m trusting that the Lord’s Will is done.

Thank you again for your words of encouragement and for all of your prayers. May God bless you, too.

The Boise Catholic street evangelization team is getting ready to head downtown again in a little while. Your prayers, please! Without your prayer support, nothing happens. But with it, we get to see God bring new hope into people’s lives. Here is a story from last week:

Since it was one of the first nice days of fall weather (not too hot, not too cold) many people were out walking. Since “our” park is currently half closed-off for construction, we were able to set our table along the only path through. Because of the good weather, people were in a pleasant mood and we were giving away a lot of Rosaries to interested people.

Then a woman named Lawanna found us. To her, our being there was a miracle. She had just arrived in Boise for a conference and, when it came time for lunch, was not content with any of the restaurants near her hotel. She felt she should just keep walking. Her walk eventually took her into downtown – and to our table.

Lawanna and her husband are very devout Catholics. She is a convert and treasures the Faith dearly. Although she and her husband did everything they knew to raise their now college-age children well in the Faith, her oldest son (Ethan) has recently fallen away after moving in with his anti-Catholic girlfriend (Tami). And, although Lawanna’s daughter still attends Mass, she declined to attend a Scott Hahn presentation when he was in their city recently. So, Lawanna is a very concerned parent.

We were able to give her some brochures that directly addressed some of the anti-Catholic lies that her son and his girlfriend have been hearing. Besides the pamphlets, we also gave her blessed Miraculous Medals for herself and family members. And she was especially grateful to receive a St. Monica holy card that had been touched to an actual relic of St. Monica (which made the holy card a 3rd-class relic in itself).

Since Lawann was going to be in town for another few days, we gave her a map with directions to a parish that has an early-morning daily Mass. Then, finally and probably most importantly, we prayed with her. Would you please also send up a prayer or two for Lawanna and her family? God can untangle the lies and restore order and unity to this family. And I’m sure Our Lady, Undoer of Knots, will add her intercession if you ask her to. Thank you so much…

Again, it’s your prayers that are making this ministry effective. Please pray for us again today. Thank you and may God in turn bless you and yours!

Holy Michael the Archangel defend us in the day of battle.
Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host,
by the Power of God,
thrust down to hell satan and all the wicked spirits,
who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.
Amen.

Remember, O most loving Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession and was left forsaken. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, a sorrowful sinner. Despise not my words, O Mother of the Word, but in your mercy, hear and answer me.
Amen

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Oh, thank you so much for your prayers! They made a huge difference. We depend on your and Our Lady’s intercession in this work for the Lord. Here is a report from Boise’s Catholic street evangelization team last week:

A first-time evangelist, wanting to be known as “Maria,” joined us today. It was so nice to have someone along who is fluent in Spanish. Before she arrived, we’d already struggled through two encounters without enough Spanish to feel effective, although the Spanish-language SPSE pamphlets came in handy.

A man talked with us for quite a while, and gave his name as “Steve”. Never underestimate the intelligence of a homeless person. He was a Bible scholar, who at one time attempted seminary (with the Salvation Army), but the Lord closed that door. Recently, he has felt called back to the Bible and has begun to read it again from the beginning. He has also begun to lead Bible studies again. From us, he accepted a Rosary and the brochure that shows where the Mysteries can be found in Scripture. Then Steve retired to a nearby bench and proceeded to read the Bible for the entire hour we were out there.

Another interesting pair of visitors were a man and his wife. The man is a devout Catholic and has been all his life. He told us that he had actually been born in a rectory and grew up in what used to be a monastery. He and his wife took Rosaries for themselves, as well as one for his dad—who prays it every day. He also asked for one of our “Good News” pamphlets, which presents the kerygma.

If you’ve been following our stories, you’ll be glad to hear that we had another return visit from Martin, the man who came to us for prayer for deliverance from alcohol a few weeks ago. This afternoon, his eyes were clear and he has been able to stitch together a string of sober days. He said he still had the paper with him that has the Bible promises on it that I gave him the week before last. He seemed quite encouraged. Please continue to keep him in your prayers.

A woman, who “used to be” Catholic, stopped by because she saw the Rosaries. She had been hurt, like many other people had, when a local parish had been suppressed about 20 years ago. The whole thing had been badly, badly handled. I acknowledged her pain and apologized on behalf of the Church. We talked a little about forgiveness, which the woman said she’d been working on. I let her know that she was always welcome back. She expressed how much she missed Fr. So-and-so, who had been the priest there. Fortunately, he was still in the Boise area. So I gave her a map with his parish on it, with contact information and Mass times listed. She was happy to receive it and to know that he was close by. Please pray for her.

We’re planning to head downtown again in just a couple of hours, hunting for lost sheep, fishing for people, hoping to bring joy among the angels in heaven by working for and with Our Lord! But we can do nothing without Him. That is why your prayer support is so critical.

So please send up some prayers again both for the team and, especially, for all those who encounter us today: that God will give them a hunger to know Jesus Christ and to cling to Him, that they will recognize the Church He founded as His Body on earth, that God will grant us the wisdom, the manner, and the words to reach each of these precious souls, and that much fruit for His Kingdom will come from our efforts today.

Thank you so much!!! And, in turn, may God bless you and yours!

Hi, and thank you again for your prayers. God really blessed our last outing. I’ll try to get a story posted for you soon. It was good.

This is a special mid-week request for prayer because three of the team members are going to be interviewed at our local Catholic radio station in just a few hours – for broadcast in October. One evangelist is particularly nervous about it, since she has never been on radio before. So, would you please send up a prayer that God’s will is done, that Catholic evangelization is seen as the joyful work that it is, and that all listeners will be encouraged because Jesus is still alive and still present and active in His Church and because that’s Good News indeed!

Thank you and may God continue to bless you and yours!

The words “Thank You” are so not-enough when I try to tell you how much Boise’s Catholic street evangelization team not only appreciates your prayers but how much the team utterly DEPENDS on them! That is what I mean when I say “thank you” on their behalf every week.

Please keep that in mind as I thank you again from the bottom of my heart for your prayers last week for the Boise team. Here are some highlights, which I hope you’ll find as encouraging as we did.

Our last outing brought us a non-stop stream of people interested in hearing about the Rosary, the Catholic Faith, or how to re-connect to the Church after a long absence. Two of the people were a woman and her elderly father in a wheelchair, and they stayed near our table for quite a while. He did not look at all well and had a great deal of difficulty communicating with the woman. But he evidently wanted something displayed on the table. The woman offered him a couple of different colored Rosaries, but he didn’t seem interested. Then one of the evangelists offered a blessed Miraculous Medal. The man lifted his head slightly and gave a positive grunt. A few minutes later, when there was a lull in the activity, she asked the evangelists if they would pray for her father. And they did. At the end of the prayer, the daughter, who was not Catholic, tried to make the Sign of the Cross with them The evangelists then took a moment to teach her that powerful prayer. Afterwards, both evangelists noticed a marked alertness in the man! To God be the glory! Please pray for continued healing for the father and that both father and daughter continue their journey all the way into the fullness of the Faith in the Catholic Church.

The recording of the radio interview seemed to go well enough. A communication mismatch meant that one of the evangelists, who is very good at radio, wasn’t able to be there. Then, about halfway through the interview, the newby to radio got tongue-tied and wasn’t able to contribute any more. The remaining evangelist, though, was able to keep going. Please send up another prayer or two that the radio station will be able to edit what was recorded into an effective segment. Thank you!

There’s other exciting news about another team that has started up, but the leader has expressly asked me NOT to post any stories yet because of the intense opposition he’s up against, human and spiritual. But God knows the whole situation. So your prayers, please?

Now I request prayers again for the Boise team, who are planning to head downtown in just a few hours. Summer here ended abruptly overnight and now the weather is relatively cold and wet – and Boiseans are so sensitive to any hint of unpleasantness in the weather that they just huddle indoors. So, would you please pray that God blesses us with relatively pleasant and dry weather for our ministry time today, that He prepares the hearts and minds of the people who encounter us so they recognize Jesus Christ and His Church as the treasures they’ve been longing for, and that He gives the team the words and the manner needed to reach each of these precious souls. May our session bear much fruit for His Kingdom!

Thank you again, and may God in turn fully supply all your needs!!

A big thank you again to all of you who lift up the Boise SPSE team (and all Catholic street evangelization teams) in prayer every week–and even during the week. God hears your prayers and He is continuing to bless our work. Here is a report for our session last week.

The Lord did dry up the weather for us (and our table, though not the benches)! He even let the sun peek out for a moment or two during our session. This encouraged a steady stream of people to be out and walking through “our” little park. Thank you so much for your prayers! Boiseans are so sensitive to any unpleasantness in the weather, but–again, in answer to your prayer support–God has blessed the little downtown park with relatively pleasant weather, at least during the time we’re set up, every week for the past two years! God is so good! And, I think He wants us out there, “fishing for men”.

Along with the many other interested passersby, we also had several return visitors. One man, Guillermo, works in the area and has his break during the time of our ministry. He spoke briefly with our Spanish-speaking evangelists, who had positioned themselves a block or so away. But then he came by our table. Fortunately, he spoke English a little better than the rest of the team speaks Spanish. I had given him a couple of our Spanish-language pamphlets a week or so ago, but this time he wanted a copy of everything we had in his native language. He also accepted a copy of the Pocket Gospels and Acts, which I have found only in English so far. He said his son could read it to him. Because of the language barrier, I’m not sure what if anything lies between him and full immersion in the Catholic Faith. Perhaps nothing. Perhaps he just wants to grow deeper. Perhaps he has been asked questions about the Faith that he doesn’t know how to answer. God knows, for sure. Please send up a prayer for Guillermo?

We also got a chance to visit briefly again with Steve, the man with a lifelong fascination with the Bible but who is dealing with many life struggles at the moment. A few weeks ago, he accepted a Rosary from us. This week, he accepted a one-page printout with short Bible promises that illustrate some of the hope he can find in Jesus Christ. Although connected with a non-Catholic Christian denomination, I’m not sure he has ever even made an actual commitment to follow Christ, much less been Baptized. Please pray that God will guide this precious man all the way home to the Catholic Church?

Lastly, the friendly “bartender”, Brad, from the restaurant that overlooks the park brought the team ice water for the third week in a row. Although he had never accepted anything in return from us, this time he accepted a copy of the Pocket Gospels.! (Of course, the evangelist built it up as, “But this is new! We have it for the first time this week. This is what Pope Francis has been giving away by the 1000s in Rome. It just came out in English. And we just got them in.” He took one and hurried back to work.) God willing, if he comes again this week, we hope to point him to Mt 10:42 as a promise with his name on it: “And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because he is a disciple—amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward.” Please send up a prayer for Brad, too?

We’re planning to head downtown again in just a little while. Please pray for us that God will prepare the hearts of all the people who encounter us so they see the hope that is in Christ Jesus and the Church He founded, that He will grant us the wisdom, the words, and the manner needed to reach each one, and that He will be glorified by our bearing much fruit for His Kingdom? Thank you, and in return may God richly bless you and yours!

Another big thank you to chero23 and to each of you who prayed for us last week! Five evangelists turned out to help with Boise’s Catholic street evangelization effort. The weather turned nice and we had a steady stream of visitors to our table. Here are a couple of highlights:

One of our newer evangelists had made a special request that we have CDs available this week, although we hadn’t seen much interest in them before. Our first visitor–while we were still setting up–was a man named Mark. He had been looking into the history of the Catholic Church since Vatican II, though he was still open to other religions as well. He specifically asked for a copy of each of the CDs we had available. Please pray for him that the Lord opens his eyes to the unique treasure the Catholic Church is for him.

Another visitor, later on, belongs to a non-Catholic Christian denomination but no longer attends services there. He’s had, though, some mystical kinds of encounters during his prayer life and so is convinced of the reality of God and His omniscience. He had been happily accepting pamphlets from the evangelist he was talking with, but then happened to mention that he could neither read nor write. The other evangelist/prayer warrior at the table then offered him copies of the CDs, which he gladly accepted. Thank Goodness for the insight that we were to bring CDs with us this time. Please keep this man, Wayne, in your prayers as well? He still has a long journey ahead of him.

Please also pray for the Boise team as we head downtown again in just a couple of hours? Please pray that God will prepare the hearts and minds of those who encounter us to recognize their need for Jesus Christ in their life and the treasure He offers in the Church that He founded. Please also pray that each evangelist will be given the right words and manner to reach each of these precious souls. Please pray that our efforts today will bear much fruit for the glory of God.

Thank you, and may God in return bless you and yours!
