Actually, according to my reference books, Mayor Brown announced the separation from his wife in 1971 or 1972; while Ms. Harris was in grade school. Willie Brown and Ms. Harris ceased dating in 1995, before he became mayor of SF.

Articles say he was married. He is still married to Blanche. So how did Kamala Harrris get her start if not through Willie Brown. He gave her positions and he help push her forth not uncommon in many areas. Women do this all the time…

I grew up in California and can tell you that Harris’ fecklessness is one of the worst kept secrets there. Not to mention the affair itself was common knowledge at the time.
Those commission positions in California have long been known as an area rife with political patronage. It’s an extremely common way for politicians to reward their close friends and benefactors because most commission positions do not require full time work but they can command decent salaries for doing little work.
It’s been fun watching Harris’ record as AG of San Francisco and then California get cleaned up. People who are interested in that had best dig behind the mainstream chatter to find the real controversies that she has never adequately explained. Tulsi Gabbard was on point about this and Harris never successfully countered that, that’s why her candidacy went down hard after that debate.
Sure Harris is half black through her father. But like Barack Obama, Harris was never a descendant of slaves in the US. Also like Obama, her father was born outside of the US. Further, Donald Harris was never poor. He attended college at UC Berkeley and was a professor at the University of Wisconsin before moving to Stanford where he is a professor emeritus. Also Harris’ ancestors include landowners and one known slave holder. His accomplishments are illustrious to be sure, but by those accomplishments, he should never be confused with ordinary American blacks as his experience is dramatically different from theirs.

Harris graduated from law school in 1990 and became a prosecutor in Alameda County. She took leaves of absence from her prosecutorial job to serve on the cited commissions. Thus the $400,000 figure cited above for earnings bears no relationship to reality.

She may have graduated as thousand do each year but it was Willie Brown who helped her gain position.
She was his side kick and went places with him. He made the introductions and got her name out there. Again lots of girls do this.

Not speculation. Common knowledge back in the day. To say it wasn’t so is to bury your head in the sand. You weren’t there in California at that time.
Political patronage via those cushy California commission jobs has always been real. Most of the time it goes under the radar, but now and then someone like Harris gets noticed for her placement in these positions. She didn’t get those positions on her own initiative and education level; she got them through the Speaker. Before she met him, she was just another assistant DA in the San Francisco DA’s office. After she met him, she was introduced to all the right people and was able to run for office with their backing.
Willie Brown was only the most powerful politician in California for decades before term limits forced him out. Many were the California governors who had to cooperate with him and he outlasted all of them until time forced his hand. One really ought to read about him before dismissing these stories out of hand.
