The “speaking in tongue” and “boonies” comment was a joke 🙂 I am seriously planning on attending service at evangelical Redeemer Presbyterian soon. I am genuinely curious (and a bit frightened) about what they about and up too in my neighborhood.
 
Both political parties are culpable. Probably equally culpable if truth be told.

Neither come to the issue with “clean hands”

I can tell you’re not a lawyer, as you are evidently unaware that most of the law is premised on Judeo Christian principles. In times past, judges even admitted to that. Now they don’t, but they still follow precedent. Religion is very tightly interwoven with English-derived jurisprudence, and always has been. There are, of course, some modern deviations based on a pagan view of society.

I can tell you don’t know many Evangelicals either, or you wouldn’t be saying what you’re saying about them. It might be a good thing to get out more and meet people who are different from yourself. Might be educational. I expect it would be.

One party is pro-abortion (at any time of the pregnancy mostly) and pro gay so called marriage. The other is not. How are they in any way equal regarding those 2 positions?

In all seriousness, one has to keep some things in mind in doing that.

Many, many Evangelicals and Fundamentalists (not the same thing) are very religious people; very serious about amending their lives and living according to biblical principles. I would trust many of them I know with my life.

But one has to recognize that the impulse to live a life compatible with the teachings of Jesus Christ can be very incomplete in the realization. In my parish, we have a lot of converts, mostly from Evangelical and Fundamentalist sects. Almost without exception, they describe their conversion as a journey from a “gap”; an “incompleteness” that was later filled through union with the Eucharist. Almost without exception, that’s what they say. It’s “being close to Jesus” in the most complete way available on this earth.

Many do not realize, because they don’t know, that’s the culmination of what so very many of them are ardently seeking.

But many, many of them are entirely sincere.

Not to derail the thread, but “Evangelicals” are a broad bunch. Some take the 6 day account in Genesis literally, many–I’d say most–don’t. It’s not a central or defining doctrine for us by any means.

I do think you need to broaden your horizons, or, if you decide you don’t want to do any homework on Evangelicals (certainly a viable option for anyone), then reserve judgment entirely on who Evangelicals are and what we believe.

If your attendance to one of the services is done in good faith (i.e. not -"it’s cheaper than a movie ticket and we can make fun of them afterwards) and the speaking in tongues thing was a poorly executed joke I would like to retract my comment related you one of your prior posts.

I think we all have posted comments that do not come across the way we thought they would due to the nature of the medium we are using (text messages on a forum).

I was thinking “good for her” until I saw what you put in parenthesis. It completely discounts your earlier remarks and makes your “was a joke” defense less than believable. 🤷

Before 2010, there were 64 just in the House, plus another 3-5 in the Senate. So it’s not nearly as hard to find pro-life Democrats as people want you to think. However, their numbers have been successfully (and very sadly) diminished through Republican gerrymandering.

There aren’t Protestant religions you’re frightened of? I’m certainly frightened of many Protestant religions that border on encouraging violence. The Westboro Baptists, for example, though I do want to post a disclaimer that they are not related to the Southern Baptists since some people don’t know. I’m also frightened of “Christian” religions that I don’t consider to be Christian such as Mormonism, but for different reasons that border more on heavy misguidance of the soul into evil.

Then of course there are the individual churches within some Protestant denominations with individual pastors that preach violence or child abuse that frighten me.

That’s a lot of fear. I trust in God, so I don’t have those issues.

That said, I’m not sure why you are making Evangelicals equivalent to the Westboro Baptist church. Ignorance? You seem to know they aren’t affiliated with other Baptists. Do you understand what a small “church” it is? And, Mormons? Seriously? You are afraid of Mormons? 😛

You just keep digging that hole…your posts have become an odd sort of entertainment.
