And this has to do with the charges how…?

I think Father is right. The Church is acting as though Guilty Until Proven Innocent is their written-in-stone law.

Makes you wonder who is actually behind these accusations.

I thought Fr. John Zuhlsdorf had some very valuable observations:

wdtprs.com/blog/2011/03/priests-holiness-and-avoid-a-spiritual-peril/
Thank you for the excellent link. Even St. Paul was aware of his own fraility and told us all to take heed lest we fall. We all know the story of David, the great patriarch that gave us the Psalm. He was a man after God’s heart who lived and died in the grace of God, except for one incident we are all aware of. Now nothing in this accusation even approaches this level or any criminal level. While my own opinion is very skeptical of this accusation, at the end of the day, it should not matter. After all there is no doubt that the good Father still commits some sin and that it is all a matter between him and God. Let us rejoice in his wonderful ministry, acknowledge the unique gift God has given him and support him (and all priests, and all Christians) either in persecution or failings.

What will let me down moreso if he is found guilty isnt what he did…lets face it, hes a rock star of priests, he knows it and has probbaly strived to stay humble cuz of it but he has changed his appearance, wears french cuff shirts and for whom? Sure some vanity doesnt hurt, but in the wake of the allegations one does tend to add things up.

No, what will bother me if he is found guilty of indulging his rock star status is for all the tuff gruff preaching he has done, would be the fact he DENIED it happened instead of being the tuff take like a man approach he gives off. The sin? Nah…the lying about based on the kind of priest he portrays himself as is what will disturb me.

Here’s a statement on Relevant Radio’s website:

A CALL TO PRAYER
Due to an announcement this weekend on Fr. Corapi’s website that he has been placed on ā€œAdministrative Leaveā€ while allegations against him are investigated and resolved,
Relevant Radio will be suspending his daily programs and promotions until further notice.
This decision was made in prayerful consultation with members of the senior management team, board members, and in consultation with ecclesiastical authorities.
Fr. Corapi’s preaching has brought many souls back to the Church so we pray for a speedy resolution to this situation. In the interim, Relevant Radio will air replays of ā€œGo Ask Your Fatherā€ on Tuesday and a Lenten Series for the remainder of March and April in the 10-11 AM CST time slot. Also, here is the official statement from the Diocese of Rockford regarding the Father Corapi event that was to be held this Saturday.
Please keep Fr. Corapi and all involved in your daily prayers.
I think both EWTN and Relevant Radio are over-reacting. I really do. And I think Fr. Corapi’s superiors are also over-reacting, if they had a hand in stopping his media appearances.

I sort of understand the Diocese’s worry that not placing him on leave for the duration of the investigation might pose some financial risk, in case that someone would bring later a lawsuit and accuse the Diocese of not taking prompt action to remove Fr. Corapi from service, and thus leaving him in a position where he could potentially abuse/harass minors or other mature female employees who are subordinate to him, even though allegations of misconduct already surfaced. But even this is iffy. Why suspend all his priestly faculties? Why not only those faculties that would expose the Diocese to potential financial claims? I mean, let him stop dealing with children and female subordinates, if the Diocese is so afraid of being sued and loosing money, but why not let him continue his fundraisers and media appearances?

Also, where do we draw the line? What if someone is going to accuse one of our Cardinals or Archbishops, next? Is the Church going to rush and place the Cardinal or Archbishop on leave, just because someone wrote an accusatory letter?

I have more of a problem understanding why EWTN and Relevant Radio chose to stop his programming. In that job, Fr. Corapi is unlikely to deal with minors or employees subordinate to him. Are EWTN and RR afraid that someone will sue them as well? It seems like they made their decisions on their own, after consultation with Fr. Corapi’s religious superiors.

After all, is this about fears of financial liability, or is it more like treating him as a leper, because somebody wrote an accusatory letter against him? Is an unproven accusation enough for someone to be blacklisted and treated like a leper?

Here’s a small thought experiment: my new Archbishop wrote a piece in the Miami Herald, against gay marriage. The liberal establishment is mad as hell with him. What if someone is going to slander and accuse him of something, just out of revenge because he had the guts to publicly condemn the gay agenda, and gay marriage? Will the USCCB ask the Archbishop to go on a leave of absence, while they investigate?

I think the pendulum has swung way too far, the other way, and now our officials are afraid of their own shadows.

I think we all need to look at our motives and reflect on this trend here at CAF. <---- This is my opinion that I have developed from my time here at CAF. It is not open to discussion as I have said it is my opinion.
Opinions, by their very nature, are open to discussion. The discussion may not go anywhere, but who knows?

Just from what I know about having a substance abuse problem and knowing many others who suffer from this affliction the simple or not so simple answer is this: if he is using he cannot speak the truth…if he is clean…he cannot speak a lie. I saw a little video of FC speaking about the 12 steps and the simple fact is…if we don’t stay on guard and follow the steps to the best of our ability…then we will go back to drinking or taking drugs and FC knows this just as well as I and anybody else who has this affliction and is following the program. For those who are not alcoholics or drug addicts and don’t have any knowledge about substance abuse I guess it would be hard to understand…but there is no cure and we have to stay in constant vigilance and humility and honesty are requirements for staying clean & sober…and complete surrender to God’s will…FC knows this too. And no matter what, no matter what…everything will work out as God will’s it…

Who cares what kind of cuffs he wears? He can dye his beard purple if it pleases him.

Why does everyone insist on calling a man who preached tough love and orthodoxy and NEVER soft-soaped his sinful past, a ā€˜rock star?’

As long as we’re slinging opinions like diner hash, my take on this is that we, as a nation, as a Church, handed the country over to thugs and dictators because of our own weakness.

Every time some special-interest crybaby screams foul, we lie down and roll over. The very concept of justice has been crushed, and the enemy knows it.

We’ve been like parents who want to be pals with their kids instead of parents.

And yes. EWTN and Father’s superiors are indeed over-reacting. They’re playing into the hands of the thugs, dictators and crybabies.

How do you know they are overreacting? We do not know what information and evidence they have. You rail against injustice yet are quick to judge the SOLT superiors who are keeping the details of the investigation to themselves. Perhaps they deserve the same benefit of the doubt that there is a justification to their actions. There is no more justification in trying them in the public forum, or EWTN, than there would be for trying Fr. Corapi through rumor and speculation.

Considering how boldly and powerfully he proclaims the truth,I don’t think it would be possible for him to have committed the sins that he is accused of. No one can preach like he does if they have a guilty or hypocritical conscience. It is hardly possible for someone to commit mortal sins who prays the rosary often and fervently and adores the Eucharist every day,and who has thousands of people praying for him.

I HEARD him. Out of his own mouth. So have many others. Though I do not think he ever mentioned any rock band by name, he did say that he had seen one or more dedicate albums to Satan.

Who is it you disbelieve? Those of us who heard with our own ears or Father?
All I was saying is that perhaps some of what is attributed to his past may have come from others and not himself and then took on a life of their own. If you say he said it then that’s fine by me. I’m not trying to cast aspersions on anybody regarding this, just looking for a little certainty.

Has anybody else seen these two blog posts?

Thoughts on the Father Corapi Situation

The first one by Jimmy Akin is very thought-provoking and worth a few minutes of anybody’s time that is interested in this.

We’re all human and any one of us can fail at any time, whether we pray or not or if people are praying for us. I’d be cautious in putting Fr. Corapi or any priest for that matter on too high of a pedestal.

A Prayer for Priests

Keep them, I pray Thee, dearest Lord, keep them, for they are Thine - Thy priests whose lives burn out before Thy consecrated shrine.
Keep them, for they are in the world, though from the world apart; when earthly pleasures tempt, allure - shelter them in Thy heart.
Keep them, and comfort them in hours of loneliness and pain, when all their lives of sacrifice for souls seems but in vain.
Keep them, and O remember, Lord, they have no one but Thee, yet they have only human hearts, with human frailty.
Keep them as spotless as the Host, that daily they caress; their every thought and word and deed, Deign, dearest Lord, to bless.

Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary,
full of Grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death.

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now,
and ever shall be,
world without end.

Amen.

Will be praying to st micheal to wage war for Father Corapi against the the forces Satan. Corapi is one of the few priests left that does not shy away from telling the truth and for that may he enter heaven.

I understand your sentiment, and it’s right to presume innocence, however I don’t think it’s healthy to assume any particular sin is beneath a person. The perils of all sins are real, and only bad things come from this kind of ā€œX could never do Yā€ hubris.

O Jesus, I pray for Your faithful and fervent priests;
for Your unfaithful and tepid priests;
for Your priests laboring at home or abroad in distant mission fields;
for Your tempted priests;
for Your lonely and desolate priest;
for Your young priests;
for Your dying priests;
for the souls of Your priests in purgatory.
But above all I recommend to You the priests dearest to me;
the priest who baptized me;
the priests who absolved me from my sins;
the priests at whose Masses I assisted and
who gave me Your Body and Blood in Holy communion;
the priests who taught and instructed me;
all the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way.
O Jesus, keep them all close to Your heart,
and bless them abundantly in time and in eternity.
Amen.

A person who prays the rosary and adores the Eucharist every day and who has thousands of people constantly praying for him is receiving superabundant grace,which keeps him in a state of grace. It requires an abundance of grace just to practice praying the rosary and adoring the Eucharist constantly.

It’s nice to see that people support the guilty-till-proven-innocent platform. :rolleyes:

It’s also nice to see so many people who concern themselves with what he wears and what color his beard is (pretending to be shocked by things that no one else has seen) also turn around and accuse others of ā€˜speculation’ regarding words that came out of Fr. Corapi’s own mouth ON CAMERA. :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes:
