This was not his choice. From the time he was suspended on Ash Wed. he is no longer allowed to put himself out to the public as a priest.

It would not surprise me to learn that there wasn’t some sort of injunction against him, compelling him to shut down sales and pages that contain SOLT.
Why doesn’t he just tell us then? It would be nice if SOLT follows up with answers at the end of this month. Was it also not his choice to write his letter to SOLT resigning?

I never heard that he did that. He was suspended, he filed a lawsuit, he was told to come back to SOLT, he refused to do that. I never heard that he formally resigned. Or, if I did, I have forgotten it.

In general, though, when a person has promised obedience then abandons their promise, red flags go up.
Yes this is a big concern.
When one promises chastity, then has sexual relations secretly, red flags go up.
Not really our business, but it has been made public and is the catalyst for many events including the disobedience issue.
When one is asked to live in community, and one refuses, red flags go up.
Similar to the first, the reason it is not a private issue between him, SOLT and God is that he plans to remain in the public eye speaking. Although I would change it to ordered instead of asked.
When a Roman Catholic priest is living large on money made selling the gospel, ref flags go up.
This is not necessarily true. For the most part I think he could be “living large” off of the $2.7 million dollars whistle blowers reward he received in 2002(I believe). It is certainly enough to purchase the luxury items alluded to in the SOLT release. We don’t know for sure how much “profit” he made off of dvd sales etc. to support an extravagant lifestyle. You didn’t mention it, but even so there may be an issue with him living his reported lifestyle based on promises made to SOLT when he joined (promise of poverty?).

From SOLT statement:

“Fr. John A. Corapi submitted his resignation from the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity (“SOLT”) early in June.”

Makes one wonder what the next bombshell will be. This is getting more and more out of control and ridiculous.

:o Fr. Corapi :o
It makes me think of seeing someone dressed up in an animal costume standing on the street holding a sign promoting a going out of business sign. Who would of ever thought we’d see a Catholic priest doing it?

This reminds me of the too many times I have tried to talk a friend out of divorcing his spouse. They have hardend harts and are committed to breaking their vows.
Fr John, you sadden me as your example as a celebrity priest enables other priests to break thier vows rather that struggle within the system.
Life is not fair but you must fight the good fight if you are innocent.
I pray other priests in your situation of guilty before proven innocent, do not follow your lead and break vows.
I will miss you, Fr Corapi!

The Catholic Church is losing the faithful by the thousands and the sex scandal ridden leaders wonder why? The leaders of the Catholic Church are, in full daylight; possibly destroying it.

Or a wolf in sheep’s clothing. It’s crazy. Never, not Fr. John.:dts:

How did he used to end his talks?

“In the end, there are only two places, Heaven and Hell.”

Fr. John is not a leader. Anyone who would leave the church because of sinners is not honest with himself.

If you’re going to go out, go out in a style. :crying:

I haven’t finished catching up, but I wanted to mention that for those who want to follow Br. JR’s advice, the rule of St. Benedict is on the internet for free. It isn’t nearly has dry and hard to understand as I expected. I skipped to the one section on obedience, but I plan to start over and read the whole thing.

The version I used was here: ccel.org/ccel/benedict/rule2/files/rule2.html

But perhaps Brother might advise a better or more recent (or older) version. If you already schedule in time for spiritual reading in addition to scripture, this looks like an excellent thing to include.

Now back to catch up…

How about the words of his superiors at SOLT, the 3 person investigative panel, the sitting Bishop of Corpus Christi, and the hard evidence they have publicly stated that they have that Fr. Corapi has behaved in a manner unbecoming of a priest and therefore is not fit for priestly ministry at this time. Speaking for myself personally, that’s a lot of evidence.
That’s the whole point: " the fact-finding people probably need to take these further facts into account, especially if they have been taking some kind of email or textual evidence as evidentiary: that’s the SCARIEST (my emphasis) notion in this whole thing" (jrpresearch.org).

Everybody do yourself a favor and review the report below:

You know, Fr Corapi’s actions speak for themselves. This has gone beyond the accusations or the veracity of the accuser. He himself is now the one who is the accuser, so to speak. His recent public actions are there for all of us to evaluate.

It doesn’t matter if the accusations are correct of not - Fr Corapi has gone off the reservation. He did that all on his own.
