Are you serious? The Left operates off of talking points, one media source says something and before you know it they all repeat the exact same hyperbole. It could be a key phrase or word but really,it’s ridiculous. The mindset takes off like a wildfire.

Not the same at all. On the right, every issue comes with its own catch word or slogan. That’s how they get the meme to spread easily, even if it is patently false. Some right-wing think tank comes up with a derogatory term or phrase, that is usually hyperbolic and grossly over generalized, and all the ditto heads immediately start to use it. (Ditto head is one of the few examples of a term coined by the liberal side).

Here are some examples off the top of my head:
  1. Open borders
  2. Chain migration
  3. S.W.J
  4. Deep State
  5. Democrat Party
  6. Crisis Actor
  7. Kekistan
  8. Snowflake
Then of course there are all the cruel nicknames Trump likes to use for his opponents: Little Marco, Lyin’ Ted, “Low Energy” Jeb, Mr. Magoo, Crooked Hillary, Pocahontas, etc. It’s the same phenomena, but applied to people, rather than ideas or policies.

the pell mell proliferation of the gay agenda forced upon those who don’t agree with their “aims”
You complain about bigotry, but this sounds like bigotry to me.

I don’t think this is a fair characterization of what most LGBTQ people are trying to accomplish. Most have no agenda other than to feel safe and be treated with the dignity and respect all human beings deserve. Only a very few have any interest in how you behave or live your life.

Actually, no. We shouldn’t. Thankful, sure – but what exactly are we ‘proud’ of?
Proud to live in a land with a rich heritage, full of good, generous people. Some examples from the National Philanthropic Trust:
“Americans gave $410.02 billion in 2017. This reflects a 5.2% increase from 2016.”

"In 2017, the largest source of charitable giving came from individuals at $286.65 billion, or 70% of total giving; "
All you have to do is talk to people and you can find so many who are good and kind and helpful. It angers me when Americans are put down when there are so many who are really good people, wanting to help others.

That’s still an admission that the nation isn’t living up to its ideals.

I think it reflects the same sentiment as liberals who say they are not proud to be American. The difference is that Trump supporters are nostalgic for a past that will never return and was pretty horrible for women and minorities anyway, while Liberals are disappointed in the failure of a progressive spirit that promised to move the nation forward to a more fair and equitable future.
Guess what? It’s never going to be perfect. But I’d much rather live in the US than in China or Iran or any number of other places where it’s illegal to speak your mind in public or where women are forced to have abortions.

My point is that, for the most part, we have done nothing to earn any of that. We are grateful, absolutely. But I have no more right to be proud of where I happened to be born than of the color of my hair. It’s out of my control.

And I’m definitely not going to wander into the territory of taking pride in charitable giving. I think that’s actually a sin.

I see “taking pride in” as a way of being happy about.

Ah. Well, that would be different. And if that were the definition, then sure, I’m happy to be an American. But that’s not how the poll question was worded.

Yeeessss because the Dems don’t have any token phrases correct?

It is generally the “lunatic fringe” of any group that agitates for any and all concessions to their demands. Yes most members of that community probably simply want to live their lives quietly, free to pursue whatever floats their boat. It is however the radicals who get the most attention, are the most disruptive and “in your face” and it is to this crowd that I direct my words in the post you quoted.
Am I bigoted? Well you have to define bigotry which IMO today means anyone who opposes the wishes or desires of another based on cause. Anyone who doesn’t roll over and simply surrender to another’s demands. Given that definition, most people are bigots in some manner or another.

I think most Americans would agree with you about that, which is why they are concerned when major medial outlets like Fox News act as if they are state run T.V. and the POTUS calls the MSM media the “enemy of the American people”.

Forced abortions in China was a horror, but so was compulsory childbearing in Romania. Not only did it produce orphanages filled with children languishing in neglect…

The country now has the highest abortion rate in Europe…

I had no objection to any of the comments you made except the one about the LGBTQ population. I think that on a Catholic Forum, we need to take special care not to demonize a marginal and vulnerable population. Yes, there are many loud and obnoxious voices in the LGBTQ community, but there are many loud and obnoxious voices in the Christian community as well. We need to take care not to add to them.

Jesus says, “But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.” - Matthew 5:39

This does not mean roll over and surrender. It means don’t let yourself get sucked into the malice coming from the other side. Its a form of nonviolent resistance that neither backs down nor returns the violence. It’s not easy. Believe me, I fail at it all the time.

Your response below made me think of the way Muslim apologists make the claim that since Islam is the fastest growing religion, it must be the the best religion and therefore the Truth.

This is a bogus claim, because popularity is not a measure of Truth.
in case you hadn’t heard, CNN’s ratings are in the tank!
FOX is beating both CNN and MSNBC.
FOX has been beating CNN & MSNBC in the Nielsen ratings for years. They also have the least informed viewers of any news outlet, including people who don’t watch any news at all.

Once more, popularity is not a measure of Truth.

I believe that you are referring to an attitude of peaceful coexistence and respect. All well and good for you and me. But when it comes to those in that community that want to legitimize their lifestyle choices and force them upon small children and those who find their choices extremely objectionable, I will opt for the righteous anger I feel. Charity and “turning the other cheek” is okay up to a point. It stops at their trying to force their agenda on me.

Well…I guess truth be know…and leaving politics aside…probably most people on the planet are proud of the country they were born in…so I doubt if we’re any different in that regard…I don’t think it’s necessarily meant in any jingoistic sense…just that they love their country of birth

Ha! FOX does not have the least informed viewers! How can you compare a news cable tv network to a religion??!!

I know it must be hard to grasp that Americans prefer FOX to CNN.

And this is the difficult part for people to understand, but, without a social safety net, outlawing abortion will result in horrible conditions for children and mothers, causing the inevitable rebound to legalized abortion and then much, much more abortion.
You are right to be concerned. Abortion is a very effective solution to the social problem of what to do with unwanted children. Democrats get this, and I think that is a big reason why they oppose all efforts to restrict abortion rights.

I don’t think the Republicans get it. I doubt they have a plan for what to do with all the unwanted children that will be born. Just like with the repeal of Obamacare, they are going to find themselves with a victory and no idea how to deal with it. If past is prologue, they will do nothing but demonize poor women who had the misfortune to get pregnant (boyfriends will get off the hook), just like they currently demonize asylum seekers hoping to enter the United States. Its all part of the process of turning poor people into undeserving poor people so they can justify not helping them or even worse, punishing them.

Abortion is a horrific solution to the problem of unwanted children, but having no solution isn’t much better. As a Catholic, my plan is to harass my fellow Catholics to honor all Seven Principles of Catholic Social Teaching and to shame them when they fall short.
