Well you have every right to believe what you want.
All men are linked. Different lifestyle approaches have been tried in the last 40 years and now, it’s plain they were all bad choices. People, children, need stability. Consistency. There is something I call “Opinion Culture.” Then there’s what works. No, it’s not perfect, but having lived through the experiments, it’s a lot better than what’s going on now. Just another experiment. Life is worth living but there are rules.

Best,
Ed

You are a very compassionate person, and probably a really good friend, but I respectfully and strongly disagree with this only because we are not animals, we are expected to rise above our disordered desires.

We are so much more than our desires, than our nature and how we are wired. God gave each of us strengths, unfortunately each of us struggles with many weaknesses, sometimes the same ones over and over again. Some of us struggle with lust, some with desire to drink alcohol to extreme, some with sexual attraction to children, some with harsh tempers, some with same-sex attraction. Yet, Jesus never said to anyone who sinned “this is your nature it’s okay” He said “sin no more”

I am probably not going to convince you that gay marriage is sinful and that is fine, it is still a useful discussion anyway. You see, when you wrote what you wrote, it sounds the same (to me) as someone with a horrible abusive temper simply saying “Oh well, that’s just how I am wired.” God calls us to live according to the commandments no matter how we are wired. If I am sexually attracted to children I have to curb those desires no matter what, if I am sexually attracted to my brother or sister than I have to curb those desires no matter what, because sex with a child or sex with a sibling is disordered and homosexual sex is the same. God bless your day and thank you for an interesting conversation.
Well for one I am not abusive as far as I know at least but I can get angry. Perhaps this religion is no longer right for me and just causing me some pain. I am just a very open person and I feel a little held back right now. Sorry if I made people angry

I just don’t put what gay people do into the same category as others I guess.

My view is as valid as anyone else and you don’t have to agree with me but I ask that you not treat me badly for it and the poster here of what I am responding to has handled this rather well.

And that is what is sad. It is disturbing and to be so desensitize as to not be bother by it is sad
I am not bothered by much because I have Anxiety and in order for me to be in more control of it I have to stay calm. I am sorry you find it to be sad I could say more but I shall not.
Have a nice day.

Question: how old is the child? perhaps you can offer to babysit him/her during the wedding?

Captain Kirk had something to say about this line of reasoning:

In regards to that clip killing is not even close to the topic that I or the OP are talking about. Someone being gay and getting married is very different from killing.
You can control yourself yes of course but being who you are is very different.

Looking for advice on how/what to say…
The same-sex “wedding” of my husband’s cousin is coming up. We will decline the invitation and are not trying to make a huge deal about it, but the problem is that the rest of the family has every intention of attending and celebrating the couple though they all profess to be practicing Catholics. This includes my husband’s niece (also his godchild), who will be brought by her parents. My husband feels some responsibility to suggest that his brother not bring his godchild to the event (and hopefully help him understand his opposition). Sometimes he thinks he should just keep his mouth shut…what should he do?
On matters like these, I will refer you to your Confessor.

It’s good that you are making a good faith effort to understand this and not just sweep it under the rug just because it’d be easier for all involved. 👍👍

Silverlight, of course you are entitled to your view, God gave you free will! I agree that you don’t put gay sins in the same category as other mortal sins, otherwise you would probably not attend a same-sex wedding. That is where we differ, just part of the dialogue on this forum that is all. This is a good place for people to bring their questions and disagreements in a healthy and charitable way.

Where I am puzzled, with all honesty, is when you wrote “I ask that you not treat me badly” in your direct response to my post. If I treated you badly, I sincerely apologize. Since we obviously disagree, and I have no desire to argue in a nasty way I made it a point to note that even though we didn’t agree we could have a useful discussion anyway, I thanked you for an interesting conversation and said God bless your day.
I never said you treated me badly I said you handled that very well and I thank you for it. I just meant in general on forums and its to anyone. People should not be harsh when they disagree. I know I try hard not to be.

Hmmm… I know what it is to suffer from anxiety, but I don’t think it is an excuse to encourage sin. I am just not sure how the anxiety comes into play with sin?

Perhaps because I am not talking about sin here. Look I am doing my best to be respectful of you on here and I respect the views you have.

I honestly do not care if someone lives a different way then me it has no impact on how I live or act. It only has an impact if I let it and I don’t.

It’s obvious to me that SL does not think same sex marriage is a sin, so I am uncertain what this post is getting at.

Exactly I think same sex marriage is different but getting married and people of the same sex having intercourse is very different. Marriage is due to many things and one of those is love.

The “wedding” of my cousin and her now husband was held in a botanical garden last fall. The officiate who did the wedding was a homosexual (planned?) and gave a sermon about “love” and “commitment.” All well and good, but nothing transcendent and nothing about God. It was a non-religious ceremony which lasted about 15 minutes. The only saving grace was that the reception had an open bar and was on rooftop overlooking the city. I said to myself “Why am I here?” during the ceremony and overall it was a somewhat pointless day, driving about three hours for it and staying over night at a hotel.

If I thought this secular wedding, very “modern” in its setting and non-religious tones, was almost pointless then I can only imagine how a same-sex “wedding” would be like. Might as well just dress up as your favorite Power Ranger and ride on a horse as you declare ones commitment to another.

Don’t go. It’ll be a waste of your time. If other family members choose to go, then that’s their prerogative. Afterwards just send a house warming gift to the homosexuals.

Same-sex “marriage” is pointless. Pointless.

Same-sex “marriage” is pointless. Pointless.
So is regular marriage at times from what I have seen considering half of them only last now days. People got married for the money before and that was also pointless not love. As my dad says get married for love. It may be pointless to others but not to the people who love each other enough to spend time with one another. There is also no use in getting angry over it as that also does nothing but leave bad feelings.

Homosexual marriage is intrinsically disordered. Celebrating a homosexual marriage is akin to celebrating the marriage of a mother and a son or a brother and a sister. Most people these days wouldn’t dream of attending such an incestuous wedding if they were invited to one because it is considered “FREAKY” because, well, it is completely disordered.

The Catholic church teaches that these weddings are not licit, they are disordered. Society today has grown to accept such weddings over time and under pressure to accept love. Well, if it is only about love why can’t I marry my son? That isn’t a phony question by the way, I wish someone could answer that. Honestly if a brother and sister honestly are sexually attracted to each other and want to get married, why not? Who are we to judge them? Or if later on in life my son after he is an adult that he is attracted to me and wants to marry me, why can’t he? The door has been opened! It’s no longer about one-man-one-woman it is about love and who you love and about your love feelings so for all intents and purposes anybody should be allowed to marry anybody just wait and see.

There is already a father-daughter couple in New Jersey that want to get married. If it is discrimination to deny marriage to homosexuals, isn’t is discrimination to deny marriage to them too? There is no logical argument why not…yikes.
I understand the Catholic Church’s (and your) position on the issue.

Regardless, when two people choose to marry, it is not pointless to those two people. That was my simple point…how that point warped into incest is beyond me. Incest, like polygamy, is not an orientation. Incest, like polygamy (and frankly, like religious beliefs), is a choice. Most of the people in my country accept this.

However, speaking of incest, I’m from the South and two of my cousins are married to each other and have three children. In the South, that’s not considered strange at all and our laws reflect our acceptance of it.

That said, Holy Matrimony per the Catholic Church is one thing. Civil marriage per the State is another. I’m very comfortable with that division of belief.

Thank you for sharing. Sorry if I wasn’t clear. Why I warped into incest was because a homosexual wedding, polygamous wedding, wedding between brother and sister are all “pointless” because no marriage really exists since the relationship itself is disordered.

I was using the word pointless in a different way than I think you were, perhaps? Anyway even though we disagree completely I thank you for a polite and charitable discussion. God bless your day.
Ah, thank you very much for this explanation.

To me, we are all disordered; we are all children of a Living God; we are all both! Never in a million years would I use the word disordered to describe just a segment of my fellows. It applies to all of us or it does not apply!

Though my beliefs regarding the issue being discussed in this thread are outside the beliefs espoused by the RC Church, I too appreciate charitable discussion. For that, I thank you, Monica. God’s blessings to you. 👍
