George Will renounces GOP, declares ‘This is not my party'

this was a serious question. now that he is no longer a republican will he continue as a commentator on FOX news. I have not heard any announcements.
if Trump wins and does a good job will he rejoin the Republican party?
Is one required to be a republican to be a commenter on Fox News? It seems that they usually have a diversity of perspectives. Is a former republican who won’t vote for Trump a reasonable perspective to have? I would seem to thinks so.

well no one seems to have an answer on his future at FOX. in other words I guess to clarify I was looking for information rather than someone pontificating.

Why would you think they would not want to have him as a commentator? If you are looking for information I would suggest you check out the Fox News website, they would have the most up to date information. This is a site where people exchange opinions. If you don’t want other’s opinions I have to question why you bother posting here in the first place?

We’re voting on a candidate’s manners now?
His words betray his true feelings about women, the importance of treating people with respect, how he sees his role as commander in chief (as opposed to being the most successful business man ever), etc. I can’t vote for someone to be president who has no filter. The idea that you can just say whatever you want whenever you want is something that small children are encouraged to outgrow.

I may not be taking into consideration his “manners” so much as his personal and professional maturity and Donald’s is that of a middle schooler.
One would NEVER have voted for LBJ (far worse than Trump, enormously vulgar) or Harry Truman (offered to punch reporters).
I didn’t have to make the choice for these candidates.
And just because Bill Clinton kept his gross ways secret from the public doesn’t mean he had any class. The Paula Jones episode alone was far worse than anything Trump has said or done.
I didn’t vote for Bill Clinton, either time. Tell me, why is when people feel the need to defend Donald Trump’s childish rants, name calling, hypocritical policy positions and down right poor character…they bring up other people who were just as bad as if to say that makes it okay?
And in private, Hillary Clinton was extremely vile in her language and in her actions.
I give her a bit of credit then for having the maturity to understand that some things are better said in private and not broadcast across the country in a series of 2am tweets.
At least Trump is out front with his faults.
I have an alcoholic cousin who starts out every bender saying to his fellow bar patrons, “Yeah, I know I’m an alcoholic. So what?”. Admirable is recognizing your faults and trying to be a better person, not bragging about them. Donald Trump has no desire to be a better person or candidate as far as I can tell.

And before you list a thousand and one Hillary faults, I’m not voting for her either. I will be throwing my vote away this year as so many here say by voting third party and down ballot races.

It’s not a hostile takeover. The Republican elite have been playing a con on their supporters for a long time pretending to care about social issues and being champions of rural working class. They don’t.
Spoken like a true Democrat.

Are you implying that only Trump can do that? I think there are any number of excellent GOP candidates who could have done a better job in the general election
But it’s questionable whether any of them could have won the general. Recall Trump’s comments about running third party if Republicans didn’t treat him the way he wanted to be treated.

It is never “throwing your vote away” to vote your conscience. In fact, I would argue the reverse is true. I have a friend who has been voting for the Green Party ticket no matter what for several election cycles. He simply does not believe in anything the other candidates stand for.

Fair enough. But I don’t know the answer.

I would ask it like this: “if Trump wins and does a good job will the Republican party join him?” I hope not – I can stand the idea of a Trump presidency, but not the idea of Trump defining what Republican means.

Pax Christi.

In the same way that Trump doesn’t know much about the supremacists, he probably doesn’t know the smart guys in the GOP.

The smartest guy in the room just walked out and slammed the door, and I believe that a lot of the brownshirts are glad. They seem less aliterate and don’t have to pretend they’re conservative.

Trump is highly educated?? He hides it well. The Republican Party has been getting dumber and dumber since Bush Jr. (He bragged about being a C student!)

The Republican Party has also been getting ruder and ruder. When I was a child, good manners and a good education were considered good, old-fashioned values. Now they are the mark of the politically correct.

God bless the past…

I agree.

That would be like directing a herd of cats. There really isn’t any unity in the Republican party, and I’m not sure there ever has been. It’s a conglomeration of “parties of one”. It’s actually one of its better features that people can dissent within it. The Democrats were once like that too, but they haven’t been for a long, long time.

But it isn’t particularly conducive to winning the presidency. Hard to round up cats, let alone direct them to a common destination.

Pax Christi!

Will Rogers famously said, “I don’t belong to an organized political party. I’m a Democrat.”

Now the Dems all head in a leftward direction. It’s the GOP that has little direction and an angry mob mentality.

Somebody start a Catholic Party.

God bless.

God bless Will Rogers. The Democrats have always been described as being unable to be corralled like cats. How things have changed.

It seems odd that a conservative would want Hillary elected president?
It’s quite possible that he is so unhappy with Trump, that he may feel that Hillary can do the least damage to the country in four years and this will give the republicans time to cultivate a viable candidate to go against the democratic candidate.

I’ve been hearing a good argument for this line of reasoning.
