Here’s the first three paragraph of the article from the CNSNews.com; (Emphasis mine)

Georgetown Says It Covered Over Name of Jesus to Comply With White House Request

(CNSNews.com) - Georgetown University says it covered over the monogram “IHS”–symbolizing the name of Jesus Christ—because it was inscribed on a pediment on the stage where President Obama spoke at the university on Tuesday and** the White House had asked Georgetown to cover up all signs and symbols there.**

As of Wednesday afternoon, the “IHS” monogram that had previously adorned the stage at Georgetown’s Gaston Hall was still covered up–when the pediment where it had appeared was photographed by CNSNews.com.

In coordinating the logistical arrangements for yesterday’s event,** Georgetown honored the White House staff’s request to cover all of the Georgetown University signage and symbols **behind Gaston Hall stage,” Julie Green Bataille, associate vice president for communications at Georgetown, told CNSNews.com.

Matthew 10:33 Douay-Rheims Bible – “**But he that shall deny Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.” **
 
This is unbelievable. No…I take that back. After the last few weeks, it’s perfectly believable.
 
What did Jesus say about those who would deny Him? Apparently Georgetown feels it’s more important to honor President Obama than Our Lord.
 
Georgetown could have denied the request and didn’t. Who’s in charge over there? In all honesty, I would not expect the staff at the White House to understand that “IHS” is a symbol of the name of Jesus. But I would expect that the staff of Georgetown University to understand what that symbol means (especially given the Jesuit order’s founder St. Ignatius adopted that symbol for his order) and then graciously deny the White House request to cover it up.

Methinks somebody ought to bring that campus a nicely vocal Rooster. Maybe the administration will catch on by the third time he crows.
 
This is all starting to sound very sinister. I have read on the news that Obama has not only approved funding for a failed scientific effort - Embryonic Stem Cell Research, but he has also stopped funding of Adult Stem Cell Research. This is beyond the pale…….
It borders on Diabolical!!! Something wicked this way comes – perhaps a chastisement will cure this situation!

The only place I’ve ever seen the IHS is on Catholic symbols.
It’s not in the Bible.
Why did the WH object to it?
This is no big deal in my mind, but it’s a curious request …maybe the POTUS didn’t want
to be associated with any religion during a secular situation but it’s kind of like you inviting me to your house and me telling you to move your furniture around…it seems rude…I mean
if you have an allergy to dogs I would put mine in the basement or the backyard if you visited me but barring some legitimate physical necessity it seems…RUDE of the WH.

inappropriate for the POTUS to be standing under the sign that was above the head of Jesus because the internet jerks might try to say something about how Obama must think that he’s like Jesus or something.

Do I make a correct assumption to think you are an Obama supporter? 🙂
 
Any religious art or inscriptions at the White House that needs to be covered up?
What about those pesky 10 Commandments at the Supreme Court?😉

Yeah, if Hilary didn’t even know who “painted” the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe after being there before, what makes you guys think that the White House staff even knows what “IHS” means!!! HAHAHA!!! :rotfl:

…and this is Georgetown we’re talking about. What’s the big surprise there?

I voted for Obama, but that doesn’t mean I approve of this…I want to know the WHY of
it…why on Earth the WH asked for it and why Georgetown complied. If there’s a good reason I want to know it, otherwise it makes Obama & Company look pretty ridiculous.

When I visit another Church I don’t ask them to cover the cross or to kneel…because that’s THEIR territory and…invited or not…it’s THEIR place, if I don’t like something I don’t go or I leave as soon as something is really offensive to me.

I love the Washington Cathedral but there was a woman there who gave a talk about angels and my sister and I were invited to attend, first of all she waited a LONG time before commencing her talk, then she spoke in LOW tones that I had to struggle to listen to…I stayed longer than I should have because I didn’t know until later that my sister was equally offended by the attempt at mind control that the woman was trying to perpetrate.
I felt I was being played and we did walk out as soon as we both realized that we were on the same page.
 
How very sad.

The President goes to a Catholic university, but he doesn’t want it to look like he’s at a Catholic university. And the university itself think that’s perfectly fine.

Are there no other attractive rooms , perhaps in a government building, where he could have made his appearance without any religious symbolism getting in the way?

My aunt AND Godmother raised me for awhile.
When she was totally ragged out by the shenanigans of my cousins and myself she would

say “JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH give me strength!”
She was not being sacriligious, that would never be in her repertoire, but during an interview on Sixty Minutes Hilary said that EXACT same words when the set fell on them.
I was SHOCKED that she used that expression because I think it belongs to Catholics.
I was like…HEY…that’s MINE, who said you could use it!?

Thank you.

The problems with this are two-fold.
  1. Why did the WH make the request?
  2. Why did the university agree?
It is likely that we will never know the answers to those questions, yet I think we can make some strong guesses and the guesses do not shine pleasant light on the WH or the school.

Agreed, that’s the big problem until they give us the answers (and IMHO we have a right to them) we’re just guessing and that’s not Jesuitical…again in my HO.
