And I agree. No Catholic institution ought to be asking a pro-death politician, no matter how highly placed, to speak at it. It’s a scandal that ought never to have happened. I’m hoping the good that comes out of it is a revision of policy by our Catholic schools and other institutions and better oversight by our bishops. There’s always something good that can come out of the evil others intend–that’s God way of dealing with such things, isn’t it?

I wish I had your compassion but when dealing with people who murder children, like the
guy who abducted that little Jessica girl in Florida when her Daddy was out and then killed her in cold blood I want them executed.
Here’s my reasoning, we have no idea how to FIX people who do something like that so
send them back to God because protecting the young of the species is essential.
And I don’t want them in jail either living off the tax dollars of the families whose children
are lost.

But you bring up something that perhaps needs to be explored further. Would the White House make a similar request on foreign soil? Would a foreign entity comply with such a request?

Well, if it is the protocol it’s in place for good reason. As I also recall (I sure wish I could find the confirmation) the reason is because the President of the United States speaks only for the United States. He doesn’t speak for any religion or any particular group (except his own political party, of course) such as the Elks or the Ladies Aid Society or any corporation, so all symbols except the presidential seal and the US flag are to be removed or covered. It’s to keep this sort of misunderstanding from happening in the first place.

This reminds me of the English not understanding why the flag was not flying at half staff over Buckingham Palace when the country was in mourning for Princess Diana. The royal flag goes with the monarch and since the Queen was not in residence at BP no flag was flying at all. The hue and cry was so great, though, that although the proper protocols were being followed, the Queen consented to flying the Union Jack at half staff over BP just to keep the people from thinking she was snubbing Diana and the people’s feelings.

We can’t let ourselves get carried away before we know the facts or we’ll end up looking foolish instead of truly making a cogent point. Yes?

I don’t think that anyone is trying to force any Church to perform marriage between
same sex couples but in America we have separation of Church and State and quite
frankly I think that it’s wrong to try to impose your religious beliefs on someone else, so I am for civil unions so that the couples can get the same legal protections that heterosexuals get.
It seems fair and just to me.

I voted for Obama, but that doesn’t mean I approve of this…I want to know the WHY of
it…why on Earth the WH asked for it and why Georgetown complied. If there’s a good reason I want to know it, otherwise it makes Obama & Company look pretty ridiculous.

When I visit another Church I don’t ask them to cover the cross or to kneel…because that’s THEIR territory and…invited or not…it’s THEIR place, if I don’t like something I don’t go or I leave as soon as something is really offensive to me.

I love the Washington Cathedral but there was a woman there who gave a talk about angels and my sister and I were invited to attend, first of all she waited a LONG time before commencing her talk, then she spoke in LOW tones that I had to struggle to listen to…I stayed longer than I should have because I didn’t know until later that my sister was equally offended by the attempt at mind control that the woman was trying to perpetrate.
I felt I was being played and we did walk out as soon as we both realized that we were on the same page.

Do you still support him now? This is above and beyond? If any Catholic that still suports him after this; should not call themself a Catholic nor go to Holy Communion. This is the lowest of the low.

The problems with this are two-fold.

1. Why did the WH make the request?
2. Why did the university agree?

It is likely that we will never know the answers to those questions, yet I think we can make some strong guesses and the guesses do not shine pleasant light on the WH or the school.

The question should be “Would the White House do this to any Mosque or Synagogue?” Would they ask them to remove the name of Allah or the name of God from them? He would not want to risk the backlash from either of them

Don’t shoot me for playing devil’s advocate here. But perhaps he might have thought he was unworthy to stand under the name of Jesus, especially since the talk was related more to economics than religion.

Also, maybe Obama didn’t know about the request. I’m sure the White House probably doesn’t run every small thing by him, and perhaps they neglected to tell him about it since they deemed it such a trivial issue.

There’s always two sides to the story. Let’s hear some explanations first before making assumptions.

With him standing on the stage set up like a Roman Collesium and the Media ready to put the laurels and pay homage to him as Ceasar. I do not believe it. You do not walk into a Religious institution and demand something like that!

How can you be a fan of a President who voted for a State Senate bill for abortion when a Nuse testified as she saw a baby born alive and was left to die in a closet?

The guy killed Jessica will be held accountable just as the President and all who do not speak out against the horrors of abortion. Comitting abortion is MURDER! All who support it MUST BE DENIED HOLY COMMUNION AND EXCOMMUNICATED FROM THE CHURCH!

There is no law here in America that says we have seperation of Church and State. That was taken out of context from a letter from Thoms Jefferson to a Minister. The U.S. Goverment “CAN NOT PROHIBIT FREE EXERCISE THERE OF”.

Show me that law that says “seperation of Church and State”!

It is a sad state of affairs when a Catholic institution is so ashamed of it’s identity so as to accomodate politicians and others who sneer at, and hold in contempt Catholic faith and values. Catholics need to get a backbone and freely and openly express their identity, especially on their own grounds (Catholic churches, schools, hospitals, homes, etc.)

This President and many members of his administration continue to further alienate a majority of committed Catholics on a daily basis. While I continue to pray for all of our leaders, we must all be willing to stand together against hostility toward all things Catholic, that includes the starry-eyed Catholic professors and administrators that are wont to bow before all things Obama.

If it is protocol for any religious symbol to be covered, does anyone know if any president before Obama ask that this be done? I am not disappointed in Obama, I have come to expect this of him, it was clear before the election that he was not truly christian. I am disappointed in the Universitys that have allowed him to use them for his own gain. N Dame should not have had him give the commencement speech and Georgetown was really wrong in covering up the symbol of Jesus. They denied Jesus as Peter did. I was taught that if need be, to die for my faith. Whatever happened to that teaching? We had better all start worrying about the future of this nation and our beloved christian faith. Soon our Catholic schools and universitys, as well as all other christian schools, will be taken over by government. We better be careful and not accept any “bail out” to help pay the bills because the donations are lagging. Our church will, one day, be underground. Far-fetched ? Just in my imagination? I think not. Just look at everything Obama has managed to do in a short time with the help of the Catholics and other christians who voted for him. We better start praying and telling our church leaders to pay attention or they too will be out of a job.

Has anyone heard how the Pope felt/feels about the Universitys outragous behavior?? Obama’s wishes come before Jesus? I do not accept the WH explanation for this horrible behavior.
