Georgetown Says It Covered Over Name of Jesus to Comply With White House Request

Agreed, that’s the big problem until they give us the answers (and IMHO we have a right to them) we’re just guessing and that’s not Jesuitical…again in my HO.
It sures seems that the WH has its grips on Catholic universities in a way that is not good for the faith.

How very sad.

The President goes to a Catholic university, but he doesn’t want it to look like he’s at a Catholic university. And the university itself think that’s perfectly fine.

Are there no other attractive rooms , perhaps in a government building, where he could have made his appearance without any religious symbolism getting in the way?
This would be worth a comment or two on the network news…would he have made the same requests of a mosque or a synagogue with regard to their religious artifacts?

I’ll answer me!
NO he would not, in fact didn’t he wear the yarmulke when he was in the synagogues and didn’t he don clothing that was consider holy by the Muslims?

I voted for Obama, but that doesn’t mean I approve of this…I want to know the WHY of
it…why on Earth the WH asked for it and why Georgetown complied. If there’s a good reason I want to know it, otherwise it makes Obama & Company look pretty ridiculous.

When I visit another Church I don’t ask them to cover the cross or to kneel…because that’s THEIR territory and…invited or not…it’s THEIR place, if I don’t like something I don’t go or I leave as soon as something is really offensive to me.

I love the Washington Cathedral but there was a woman there who gave a talk about angels and my sister and I were invited to attend, first of all she waited a LONG time before commencing her talk, then she spoke in LOW tones that I had to struggle to listen to…I stayed longer than I should have because I didn’t know until later that my sister was equally offended by the attempt at mind control that the woman was trying to perpetrate.
I felt I was being played and we did walk out as soon as we both realized that we were on the same page.
Washington Cathedral? Do you mean the National Cathedral in Washington?

Nah, Jesus, Mary and Jospeh are there for everyone. 🙂
Jesus maybe…but Mary and Joseph belong to US! I even had a Mormon missionary say that Mary was no big deal …which turned an intelligent theological discussion to one that got down and dirty on my part.

Later on I reflected that Catholics are very protective of Mary, my father had a special devotion to her and even when he didn’t care for the Church in general he kept her (and she kept HIM, I’m sure) in his heart and prayers.

Right!
It’s a beautiful place and very peaceful.
Sorry I got the name wrong, I’ve only lived here all my life but as I age that happens frequently to me!

I agree that Catholics turn to all three, and do so often. However, my point is that it is never wrong for anyone to call about the Lord, His Mother Mary or Joseph…I pray they do so more often actually.

Of course, you are right and I am OWNED!
:o

Oh…wait, I just thought of another reason! Maybe they (the WH) thought it would be
inappropriate for the POTUS to be standing under the sign that was above the head of Jesus because the internet jerks might try to say something about how Obama must think that he’s like Jesus or something.
Then don’t give your speech at Georgetown - a (formerly) Catholic university.

My aunt AND Godmother raised me for awhile.
When she was totally ragged out by the shenanigans of my cousins and myself she would

say “JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH give me strength!”
She was not being sacriligious, that would never be in her repertoire, but during an interview on Sixty Minutes Hilary said that EXACT same words when the set fell on them.
I was SHOCKED that she used that expression because I think it belongs to Catholics.
I was like…HEY…that’s MINE, who said you could use it!?
LOL, the set fell on them??? Is there a video of this online, I want to see! 😃 Reminds me of the Rudy Giuliani lightning incident.

She probably picked up the expression from her husband…didn’t he go to Georgetown?

According to the Catholic Library, IHS means…
I’ve seen the acronym IHS all over the place–on altar cloths, holy cards, vestments, and prayerbooks–but I have no idea what it stands for. A friend signs his letters “IHS” and says it means “In His Service.” What’s the scoop?
IHS is the anglicized rendering of the first three Greek letters in Jesus’ name. In the early Church, especially during the time of the Roman persecution, this became a popular way of writing Jesus’ name as a sort of code. Since then it has become a universally-used insignia and shows up on all types of Catholic religious art and accoutrements. After a few centuries, when the monogram was integrated into the general Latin usage of the Church, many were unacquainted with the original meaning and wrongly believed it meant, in Latin, Iesus Hominum Salvator (Jesus, Savior of Humanity), Iesus Hierosolyma Salvator (Jesus, Savior of Jerusalem), and even the exquisitely banal English version your friend favors, In His Service.

I dislike this bunch and am ashamed that the Catholics he encounters are just a bunch of wimps and give in to him…

That’s not really a fair comparison. Didn’t he wear that in a foreign country? If he had done that in this country, then it’s a fair comparison.

But you bring up something that perhaps needs to be explored further. Would the White House make a similar request on foreign soil? Would a foreign entity comply with such a request?

Once again …the Catholics sold themselves to the anti-Christ and Obama has been very good at portraying that !

Don’t shoot me for playing devil’s advocate here. But perhaps he might have thought he was unworthy to stand under the name of Jesus, especially since the talk was related more to economics than religion.

Also, maybe Obama didn’t know about the request. I’m sure the White House probably doesn’t run every small thing by him, and perhaps they neglected to tell him about it since they deemed it such a trivial issue.

There’s always two sides to the story. Let’s hear some explanations first before making assumptions.

I wonder if the White House also told them to not, under any circumstances, expose Obama to holy water.

I just couldn’t keep myself from saying that. The topic just begged for it. 😃

?

If it was such a trivial issue, why bother going to Georgetown. There are numerous universities in the DC-area. Go there.

If this was going to be so offensive why even go to Georgetown to begin with?..They knew it is a Catholic college and not a secular one

If people surrounding Obama are this clueless it speaks very poorly for the choices he has made as far as staf

Telling Christians to cove up the name of Christ is no small thing

It looks to me like they have an anti Catholic agenda

Possibly, Obama is now causing dissident Catholics to do symbolically what they have already done in fact? I think it would be a mistake to underestimate his anti-Catholicism.
