Some people seem to think that’s the worst mortal sin. Whether it’s acted on or not.
 
Why don’t we just get rid of everyone who is not perfect- the homosexuals, the fornicators, the liar, the thieves, the cheaters,…
then, those of you who are perfect won’t have to be seen around us and can have your “smaller, purer, Church”.

I’m sure Jesus will be so proud that you spared him of the dregs of humanity. :roll_eyes:😏🤨

I don’t think that’s what the story is at all.

I think people just don’t appreciate others who flaunt their homosexuality at them. And that goes double for priests.

I have no desire to associate with men who walk around telling people of their desires to commit sodomy. This kind of information should be shared on a “need to know” basis, and I just don’t need to know.

Well, if a priest actually did that, his bishop should be informed. It’s hardly something that all priests with SSA do.
 
I have many homosexual friends. Never, NOT ONCE, have then talked to me about their desires to commit “sodomy”. We talk about the weather, our parents, our siblings, the world today, politics, everything and anything, but not sex.

In fact, I do not talk about the sexual exploits of any of my friends, with any of my friends.

Where do you people live that you are surrounded by flaming, raging gay people who are in your face 24/7?
I live in a very “gay friendly” part of the country and don’t seem to have has many issues as a lot of you here do.
 
Recently had a gay/“gender non conforming” high school senior at a catholic high school show up to the prom wearing a floral pattern romper and full makeup. There is an aspect of militant homosexuality and there they target conservative areas to stir up controversy and opportunities to label people bigots.
 
Define “homosexual,” or this thread will go no where.

Merely having same-sex attraction does not bar one from being a priest. One of my favorite priests has told me he is gay. But of course, he lives according to the Church’s teaching (as I suppose most SSA priests do!).

In fact, because he is gay/has SSA I think he is better able to pastor me, and better understands me and others like me.

I get your point, and I like it.

But I think the problem is assuming homosexuals are sinners (with regards their homosexuality). The OP still hasn’t defined his term, not that I’m aware. Merely having SSA is no sin, and certainly small failings (lustful thoughts) should not be overly concerning as to pastoral ministry. We are all imperfect.

Because he knows I SEVERELY struggle with being gay and in the Church. I think he wanted to let me know that there is a path to having SSA in the Church. It’s not as if the Church is only for straight people.

He’s not “out and open.” I’m sure only few others in the parish know he is.

I think we should get rid of any sort of “-sexual” clergy. If they are having sex or the preliminaries then this is a problem and they need to be suspended or if they can’t stop what they’re doing, removed.

If they are not having sex or engaging in any sort of preliminaries to it such as porn, inappropriate contact or innuendo, then it’s a moot point.

Unfortunately, @CilladeRoma, I think the problem is rather that many of the CAF users who reply as they do are NOT familiar with the typical LGBT person — they have no close gay family members or friends, for instance. It’s only a news story to them.
 
I agree. I am not a fan of the term SSA. In fact, I have only ever seen it used here, and I think that is because there is more homophobia on this forum than I have seen in many years.

Gay people are not going to be the downfall of society. They are normal people, just like the rest of us, trying to live life and be happy. Being Catholic, brings a whole new set of crosses for them to bear, and I often wonder why they bother, since it seems that many Catholics just don’t want “their kind” around. I understand why so many people think that the Church hates gay people.

We all have our sins, and all of them separate us from God. Some of us need to take the plank out of our own eyes.

I don’t think there is any way to really know if priest is having sexual affairs or not. There aren’t going to tell their superiors.

People who are doing sexy things on the sly get caught eventually. Their superiors find out. Same way as if you cheat on your spouse, your spouse will find out.
