It is true that California is in budget gridlock. But if you look at federal revenues from states, vs federal spending in those states, there is a clear pattern. The red states, in general, collect money from the federal government in excess of the revenues they pay into the government. The opposite is true, in general, of the blue states. In some cases, the federal payouts into red states amount to 2.5 times what their GDP would be without federal subsidy. This presents some interesting problems for Republicans who favor a smaller federal government.
OTOH WHY are we sending money to Washington where they waste it on administrative and overhead, after which they decide how to divy it up and send it BACK to the states.

What is wrong with this picture? If the states were NOT so beholden to the federal government, if they were able to keep more of their money in the state where it is EARNED instead of wasted, then I believe the states would do a far better job of allocating the money to the issues and situations and needs of that state.

The Federal Government needs to be STARVED and get out of our lives. They add costs but virutally no value. They should stick to those issues that can ONLY be done by the Feds…you know like the military. Picking lightbulbs and deciding on auto mileage standards is really unnecessary don’t you think?

Chill a bit.

I find BXVI disappointing too.

But he has his loyal fans. There is no need to be disrespectful.
Thanks.

I mean this with all due respect, OK? Why would a Methodist really care about a Pope to begin with? I mean this as a respectful and serious question.

I guess I am out of a job then. I think I will move to a ski resort and patch up rich people instead of warriors.

Fans? That is an insult to faithful Catholics who know that the Holy Father is the Vicar of Christ. They are NOT fans.

I don’t see how BXVI is in any way a poor second to Blessed Pope John Paul II

I think Papa Benedetto XVI is an excellent second to Saint Peter. 👍
100% agree. I’d like to know what complaints the Pope haters have.

Everything comes around. It might be unseemly to gloat.

The interesting thing to me about the Obama phenomenon is that he mobilized younger voters. For the first time in a while, young people turned out, and they elected a president. The predictions were that they would not show up in 2012, but they did. So, the electoral demographic has shifted. It is not just old people and conservatives comprising the swing vote, and determining who will be president.

So, this is the puzzle for the Republicans. Their previous base is insufficient to keep them in office. How will they adapt to meet the new demographic?
Yes I found it fascinating that young people voted to mortgage their futures and assure me and my fellow Baby Boomers a cushy retirement they will NEVER know at the rate BHO is burning through tax dollars. But as George Bush said…when I was young and stupid I was young and stupid. You know I voted for Jimmy Carter…thankfully I actually got a clue…

I think this year was an anomoly. As much as I loved Romney, he did not connect with many potential voters. Further I think his campaign was a disaster. They drank the Kool-Aid that no President with such high unemployment, such low approval and a DECREASE in attracting voters in his second race had EVER WON. This is true…but Obama defied all the odds, all the trends and history. The race was lost by Romney’s poor campaign, the nasty and overly long primaries, and a poor message.

Even young people, in their own lives, are relatively fiscally conservative and the pro life movement is gathering steam among the young. But Republicans articulated their message so poorly, were so cautious, that their only hope was that history would repeat itself and Obama would go the way of Carter…

Too bad for America. BTW I think Hillary is NOT going to be nominated or win. As Sec of State she’s got a good approval (based on what accomplishment I do not know). But we are not going to vote her in as President.

Probably so. You won’t want a career at a city hospital with Obamatax kicking in.

He is a world leader. I try to be charitable, but I find that he is just too conservative for this world, sort of an anachronism. I don’t mean this disrespectfully. I believe that with authority or power, also comes responsibility. I am not quite certain that he has shown the personal maturity and self discipline for his position.

Every public person is put under a magnifying glass. And, nobody is perfect. I really don’t want to get into bashing BXVI. I just disagree with him sometimes. But I don’t pretend to have his spiritual “credentials”, if you will. He has spent his life spiritually, and so I freely admit that I might just be ignorant. But I live by my own ideas and perceptions, which do not always coincide with his.

@epan

I appreciate the response (while disagreeing with your assessment of the Holy Father).
Thank you for your response.

LOL Well Gingrich should be able to define incapable, he couldn’t manage to win the nomination.
