I agree. But the point is whether the states are in a better position than the Federal government to accomplish this. I would say because the states enforce the penalties, fines, executions, etc. that they are in a better position.I am certain that a great many people felt that it was a waste of money, and unrealistic, to try to restrict slavery in any way.
Having liberty does not equate to being able to do whatever we want. There are limits, and taking the life of an innocent human falls into the category of, “everyone should be against this.”
