I am certain that a great many people felt that it was a waste of money, and unrealistic, to try to restrict slavery in any way.

Having liberty does not equate to being able to do whatever we want. There are limits, and taking the life of an innocent human falls into the category of, “everyone should be against this.”
I agree. But the point is whether the states are in a better position than the Federal government to accomplish this. I would say because the states enforce the penalties, fines, executions, etc. that they are in a better position.

Yes, but 50% of the populace is under the spell of the leftists, and they have little regard for life other than their own.
Then you formulate an amendment which will give everyone some consideration. Read the 14th amendment, for example, which has items that seem unrelated.

When it comes to protecting lives, that should fall to the states and the fed.

Well I am a Catholic and Abortion is a Women’s issue. Men have no right saying what a Woman can do with her body. What a Woman does with her body is between her and her GOD. WHO ARE YOU to make decisions on who is Catholic and who is not ? You see, there are alot more “Cafeteria Catholic” out there then you would like to admit. I am shocked that SOME Catholics are drinking so much of “one size fits all” Koolaide
A true Catholic believes what the Church teaches and does not tailor Catholicism to fit their own personal opinions and wants.

Abortion is not a “woman’s right”. Abortion is a way of deciding when it is opportune for a woman to commit murder within the guidelines of the law for her own personal gain. No one, male or female, has the right to murder.

Being “Catholic” is not some arbitrary label that one can identify themselves as whenever they feel like it. It’s a way of life, a way of thinking and acting. It is a religion. It’s all or nothing. You can’t just pick and choose which mortal sins you want to commit. You can’t try to change the Church, but I pray that the Church will change you.

God Bless, I hope you see the error of the secular world and re-embrace your Catholic roots.

Never met a Man that got an abortion… my God is personal to me…
Never knew a baby that didn’t have a father. As best I can determine, it takes a man AND a woman to create another human life. Abortion is a human rights issue, not a women’s issue.

As to your “personal” God, that’s simple relativism… So you have created a god that comports with your pre-determined standards? Not much of a god, that one!

Its not all or nothing… I think many with their self-rightous beliefs… pointing out the “mortal sins” of others is crazy. Its also more than likely why Church attendence is falling like a rock.

As I stated before, when the GOP listens to the garbage of Michelle Bachmann and Rick Santorum… They will loose every time. Their views are extreme to say the least and are on the loosing end of history… The GOP better learn that insanity “same stuff over and over, expecting different results,” will cause them to loose every time.

Believe what you wish, obviously–just don’t call it Catholicism, which it is not.

Ummm…people don’t dictate what are mortal sins. The Church does; GOD does. Church attendance is dropping because people are becoming more vain, selfish, and secularized. Mortal sins have ALWAYS been mortal sins. Truth does not change; God and His Law does not change, but culture sure does.

Catholicism is absolutely all or nothing. Always has been and always will be.

Republicans are not anti immigration, they are anti illegal immigration
Sadly, most don’t know the difference. I don’t know how many times I hear in my hometown about how “all mexicans are illegals” and things in a similar vein. Much like with a lot of things, people take bits and pieces of what they hear and transform it to what they like. This means the Republican party is definitely not anti-immigrant, but I assume quite a few who vote for it are, at least where I live.

Actually fission the churches that have LOST the most are the liberal mainline churches. Those are the people who are no longer churched or have elevated secularism to an art form if not a religion. Catholicism, evangelical Christianity and other traditional religions have not suffered nearly the drop of the Methodists, Episcopalians, Presbyterians etc. They no longer stand for anything so who needs them?

BTW you have a short memory. In 2010 the GOP made huge gains. If not for a couple of horribly flawed candidates we could have gained in the Senate, still hold the house and have I believe 30 Republican governors. And in case you are interested, these are the governors whose states are actually doing WELL as opposed to those run by Democrats (into the ground mostly).

You are new and think your claims are novel. Go back through the archives and you’ll see that you too are “doing the same thing over and over.” Didn’t work then. Doesn’t work now.

Just because there are a lot of Cafeteria catholics doesn’t make it right. If we use that logic, than it is okay to have premarital sex, or to get drunk, or smoke dope or god knows what. Superior numbers doesn’t mean superior beliefs. Having the superior being (God) does. That being said I feel maybe you should read what the church teaches and why. It might change your views. If not, at least you will know what your’e missing

Whatever you wish to believe. Eventually, only a few will be at Mass… I know in my area, in the past 5 years … 4 of the local Parishs have closed or combined, why ? lack of membership… what a shame. I will answer to God for my thoughts and actions, sinful or not. Not to a Federal Government or Church. Sorry, but its what I think… and I am Catholic… and a great many more like me are around than you must realize…

We are not really allowed to bring into question someone’s faith here, so I will make a general statement:

A Catholic may not vote for a pro-abortion candidate (a special case is where 2 pro-aborts are running against each other). It really is as simple as that.

Roll your own Catholicism is not Catholicism.

Thanks all for the spirited discussion… Off to watch a show… I am sure I did not change minds, but you also did not mine… nite

Fission you are the world’s greatest expert on your own opinion. But an opinion isn’t the same as a religion. The state of your soul is up to you but please do not claim to know the truth simply because this is the way you feel about a subject. Our faith has a long and amazing tradition. We follow Christ, we don’t presume to tell Him what is right or wrong.

It’s not what I wish to believe, it is the Truth. It’s Church history. Yes Mass attendance numbers are falling but the answer is not to conform to the culture.

You can’t change the Truth. The Truth is constant and never-changing. If people want to reject it, well then it’s their own free will. But I would rather a sparcely attended Mass with true believers than a Mass that is packed but has deviated from the Truth and from God. It would no longer be Mass anymore.

I think you have a flawed view of religion that it’s our choice to define what is right and wrong…it’s God’s Law that defines and judges that. If one doesn’t believe what the Church teaches, they are not true, God-fearing Catholics. And that is not my opinion, but the Truth.

I am very much aware of the proportions of “cafeteria Catholics/ Christians”, as well as agnostics and atheists in America. I go to a very liberal college. I am far from ignorant on the matter.

Fission, how old are you? Are you male or female?

Who am I? I’m a father that had no say as to whether my child would be aborted or not. Who are you,or who is anybody for that matter, to decide my child can be killed without my say in the matter?
