Therefore, we can’t elect any politician who has broken an oath or lied, right? We’re doomed. 😃

You can pretend you are voting for the only honest politician, if you like. Good luck with the self-deception. 👍

I’m not saying that trustworthiness is not an important thing to be aware of, but tying it to marriage above all of the other important things a politician is responsible for doesn’t make sense to me. I want to know whether he is going to keep his promise on policy. I haven’t seen a case where a politician has cheated on a policy because another policy looked sexy and he lusted after it.

What I have seen politicians swayed by money, so I’m more concerned if I see a politician who has caved under the pressure of lobbyists and/or contributors. This also happens a lot with politicians, so it takes a lot to sort out the worst offenders and withhold my vote.

The Church said his previous marriages were not valid. I trust the Church.

If you don’t trust him, don’t vote for him.

I agree it is big time and I suspect that it is big time for a lot of people. However, could it be that in American culture today, many Americans are not taking their solemn oaths seriously? And one of the questions being raised by your comments is whether or not we should entrust the enormous and serious responsibilities of the office of President of the USA to someone who may not take these type of oaths or promises seriously?

Does anyone here think that it is relevant or important for a voter to know if a candidate for high office has broken a solemn oath, which he has taken publicly?

I was just asking a question on the seriousness of taking solemn oaths and if this is something that the electorate should be considering.

The Church has accepted his repentance and he has converted. Our Church has embraced him into our family.
Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to the United States in April of 2008 was a turning point for me. The Holy Father presided over solemn vespers with the U.S. bishops in the Crypt Church at the basilica in Washington. Callista’s choir was asked to sing for Pope Benedict at vespers, and as a spouse, I had the unique opportunity to attend the papal visit and was deeply moved by the occasion.

Catching a glimpse of Pope Benedict that day, I was struck by the happiness and peacefulness he exuded. The joyful and radiating presence of the Holy Father was a moment of confirmation about the many things I had been thinking and experiencing for several years.

That evening I told Msgr. Rossi I wanted to be received into the Catholic Church, and he agreed to join Callista as my sponsor. Under his tutelage, I studied the Catechism of the Church over the next year and was received into the Church in March of 2009 in a beautiful Mass at St. Joseph’s on Capitol Hill.

After a decade-long — perhaps lifelong — faith journey, I was finally home.

It could still be a problem for some voters. For example, take a look at what is happening to another Republican candidate as personal questions are being raised about him.

As with Romney though, Newt’s been around awhile. Many people already know what’s in his closet.
