Yeah that was then, this is now. He hasn’t even begun to be vetted yet. If he was. He’d be even lower nationally.
Like Romney, Gingrich also hasn’t released his tax returns. He will though.
Yeah right. I really don’t like when endorsements are out as if they would change my mind as an informed voter or anyone else for that matter. It may work for some candidates. But with Newt? they are ultimately ineffective because of how toxic he is as among many voters they have a pre-conceived notion about him, whereas the other two, three GOP candidates they can change their minds about. Endorsements for Newt actually work in reverse. It makes you question the person endorsing Newt.
For instance saying, “Unwavering committment.” Gingrich was all over the place on mandates, global warming. He still is. For every endorsement. Santorum also has his endorsements. Yet they can say that Santorum has been the most consistent and Perry had Forbes endorsement as well look how convincing that was. It was great sounding, just like those Newt endorsements.
Santorum has a better plan than Gingrich and so did Perry. But the question still remains, can Gingrich beat Obama? Debates. Debates. Debates. That is fool’s gold.

Even Sarah Palin doesn’t know what she’s talking about with her endorsement, NOT endorsement of Newt.
I doubt she can make an impact, because the candidate still has to ultimately sink or swim on his own. Her support for Newt is a little bit hypocritical since she says she’s for outsiders, reformers and against corruption. Not to mention the character issues that surround Mr. Gingrich to this day.
She is so behind since her debut in 2008.

One major advantage that both GIngrich and Santorum would have in the general elecion is, they would be almost immune to the potential attacks from Democrats and even media who could come up with many deeper issues regarding Romney that might seem to get ignored now !

If you compare the results to the last Rasmussen poll (Jan 4), Romney gained 1; Gingrich ganed 11…a second surge. Gingrich is correct, when he says Perry (same at 4%) and Santorum (dropped 5) should bow out.

Neither are even remotely immune. Gingrich has a lot of personal and political baggage from the past that the Dems will bring up if he was nominated. And as much as I love Santorum, I know very well that the left will call him a homophobe and racist because they have already done it. Of course it’s not true, but given the level of vitriol that Santorum has endured over the years from the homosexual lobby they would completely lose it if he was nominated. I’m still voting for him in the primary though. I just don’t have any illusions as to the tactics the Dems will use against both. And it’s going to play with many of the Catholics that voted for Obama last time, and even some independents.

Neither will come up before he locks up the nomination, because he won’t release those details until April.
I think that the real problem will be that he is only paying 15% taxes because his income is in the form of “carried interest,” and not real investment income. This accounting trick allows him to treat what is essentially deffered compensation as investment income, even though he does not have any of his own money at risk. This revelation will spark a renewed debate over whether it makes sense to give the ultra-rich this gigantic tax loophole. He’ll survive it, though, because at the end of the day the American people will not fault him for taking advantage of a legal tax loophole. It may mean the end of carried interest, though.

Yes, but by “investments,” I believe he means his carried interest income from Bain, which is treated as investment income in the tax code even though Romney himself has no underlying investment at risk. Under certain circumstances, the tax code allows fund managers to treat the pay they receive for managing the fund as investment income even though the underlying investment capital is someone else’s money. It’s a unique loophole available only to these very rich financial types, and its something most Americans have never heard of. I believe that Romney is still drawing carried interest from Bain, which would explain how a person with a reported net worth of around $200M is able to make over $20M a year in investment income in this economy–its actually money he is still earning from the funds he managed at Bain.
Again, this is not illegal, and I’m sure Romney did good work to earn that money. But its a giant tax loophole that most people don’t know about. It will cause a buzz when he finally releases his tax records, and will hopefully lead to a real conversation about how we tax income.
