You don’t like that video? Neither do I. But hate it if you will, he’s still nowhere near being as destructive as Obama. You know it, too. Yes, you prefer Ron Paul. I get it. And I get it that you are impassioned about it. I don’t share that feeling with you. But I would vote for Ron Paul in a heartbeat if he was the nominee against Obama. There is a difference, Sam, between not liking something a candidate said and being willing to see your country destroyed.
The difference between Obama and Newt is the difference between a rocket sled headed to financial oblivion or a car with the cruise set at 70 mph headed to financial oblivion. They are both going to get there it’s just a matter of how fast you want to go.

Being a party to either is still being willing to watch your country be destroyed. Frankly I’d just as soon get it over with now while I’m still young enough to help the country start over.

Public Policy Polling just tweeted 'National general election numbers out tomorrow- Newt gaining on Obama too, suggesting increased appeal not just to GOP.

Okay, one HUGE difference is on their stance on abortion, not to mention the ramming
down the throat of Catholic institutions of having to provide abortion services, etc, etc.
For most practicing Catholics, that is reason enough not to vote for Obama.
So please explain the financial “oblivion” that Newt would continue. (Obama is rapidly
getting us there now.) Specifics, please.

In all candor, money isn’t as important as human lives. If given a choice between having 10 million more babies aborted, or having 10 years of a financial depression, I would pick the economic depression every time.

If I’m not mistaken, we have some aging conservative appointees on the Supreme Court. They MUST be replaced by pro-life Justices. Scalia is 75, and apparently Ginsberg (most liberal) is 78. The point is, unless they’re planning on serving until they’re 80 and 83 respectively (5 more years of Obama) they’ll both have to be replaced. We MUST have a conservative President to do this, who is pro-life).

You care about hitting a financial brick wall. But, the lives of millions of Americans is at stake here. Human Lives > Money.

Amen.

I am crawling over broken glass to vote for whoever is running against Obama.

Oh no, Sam, no. I’m not a Gingrich partisan, but do you not know that largely because of Gingrich, the march to financial oblivion really was arrested in the early 1990s? It wasn’t perfect, but it did reduce government deficits a lot and led to a nearly nearly balanced budget. Nobody really thought it could be done. Gingrich might not have the ideological purity (from some standpoints) as a Ron Paul, but he was able to get things done against heavy odds.

Are you really young enough to go 70+ years to see confiscatory socialism reversed so we can “start over”? That’s how long it took in Russia. And let’s see, how long has crony capitalism reigned in Chicago? I suggest to you, Sam, that you cannot possibly be young enough to see the obama vision reversed if it really entrenches itself in this society. How long has it reigned in Britain? More than a lifetime, and the Thatcher interlude was not enough to truly reverse it, either.

And do you really want to be held responsible by your children for the next Supreme Court appointment Obama makes? Fail to oppose Obama, and you will be as responsible as if you appointed the person yourself. I used to be a Democrat officeholder, Sam, and I supported the party faithfully, effectively, and for too long. Sure did. My point of departure came when (too late) it became clear to me just how wedded to abortion the party really is.

And my conservative grown children remind me of all that, and my sense of shame is justifiably deep. Are you sure you’re only selling yourself out, Sam, in failing to oppose Obama? You won’t be, you know.

This (and my own history) remind me of a vignette in “Gulag Archipelago”. Solzhenitzyn met a man who was sentenced to be shot. The man told him that, right before his execution he was going to tell the shooter “It is you and you alone who will be responsible for my death. Not Stalin, not the Cheka, but you.” And he said that, knowing what repercussions would befall the shooter if he refused to do it.

Why did the man say that? Because it’s true. Every person who has a hand in the promotion of an evil objective is as fully responsible for it as are the principals. You have a decision to make now, and it’s for Ron Paul. Fine. You will then have another decision to make for your children and your grandchildren. But no matter who runs against Obama, you will know you are responsible for everything that man does if you fail to oppose him in an effective way. You know full well what he is; better than most.

So, you are with me on the Ron Paul Rock-n-Roll Express? 👍

Is that the same Ron Paul who’s a-okay with gay marriage because it’s a “state’s rights” issue? The same Ron Paul who was against DADT? The same Ron Paul who’s ok with Iran having nukes so they can blow Israel off the map? That one? I guess the five “non-negotiables” don’t apply to him, huh?

Ya, keep spouting inaccurate information sweetheart. I’ve seen it from you in other threads. I let other people do their homework. I have no interest in fighting your lies here. Have a nice day. 👍

I regard “always” as a quality, and “infinite” as a quantity. (And doin’t get me started on ZF Set Theory
I see your point. I sorta see it, though, as God having infinite love for me as also meaning that He has always loved me.

Look people, Gingrich is our last best hope against Romney. And, I think he’ll be able to hold that spot all the way to the early contests. And I pray that will happen as well.

Look at Rick Perry, someone runs for president and then can’t effectively communicate their own ideas (for like 6 debates he couldn’t communicate his ideas, then his gaffe was the nail in the coffin). But, I mean, come on? Why was he even running for President in the first place? If he can’t debate?

Cain? Again, even before the harassment allegations, he wasn’t measuring up as a knowledgeable candidate. People started laughing at him when all his answers seemed to lead to the same single policy (9-9-9)… which I highly doubt is a panacea to all of America’s economic problems (he seems to think so).

All the conservatives need to rally behind 1 candidate to challenge Romney, and that is Newt Gingrich. The liberal media is probably a week away from smearing him, but the only problem is it’s all in the past. I really don’t think personal indiscretions over 10 years ago have any bearing on Gingrich’s character today.

The point is, we unite behind Gingrich, or else we’re stuck with Romney. Who, would you even be that excited if he beat Obama anyways? Sure I’d vote for anyone that isn’t Obama, but I’m sure I’d be mad at a lot of what Romney does in office, that won’t be a problem with Gingrich… abolishing the 9th circuit court, standing up for Christians in the middle east, appointing pro-life justices (based off of his Catholic faith).

And, lastly, I don’t think we’re somehow stuck with Gingrich as the last guy, he’s clearly the best of the conservative bunch. He’s clearly better than Bachmann, Perry, and Cain. Clearly.

.
On April 9, 1995 Congressman Gingrich appeared on “Face the Nation” and noted that he supported funding for an abortion in the cases of rape, incest, and to protect the*** health ***of the mother.

What makes you think he’s any better than Obama?
With all due respect, you must be too young to remember the good things that came about when Newt was Speaker. The Contract with America had many good points in it and a lot of it came to pass. Newt has a new contract posted on his website.

I understand how you feel about Ron Paul. I felt the same way about Goldwater and worked very hard for his election. But he was just not electable and neither is Ron Paul. It’s hard to take, but those are the facts. You sound like an intelligent sort. Use your brain power to find out about those candidates that do have a chance of getting the nomination and help get one of them elected. We need all the efforts we can muster to dislodge Obama from the WH.

And do you really want to be held responsible by your children for the next Supreme Court appointment Obama makes? Fail to oppose Obama, and you will be as responsible as if you appointed the person yourself.
Are you basically saying that if a person continues to support a candidate (in this hypothetical case, Ron Paul) who does not get the Republican nomination, they are failing to oppose Obama? I want to make sure I understand.

I am a Ron Paul supporter, and this is a big deal to me. What if he fails to grasp the nomination but launches a third party bid in the general election (yes I know he has mostly dismissed this, but things change)? Would my vote for Paul be a vote for Obama? I certainly wouldn’t view it that way. Maybe the real problem is that the country is so inured to the dismal gridlock of the two-party system that most people no longer know how to vote for somebody, they can only bring themselves to vote against somebody.

Maybe I’d vote for Gingrich. I need some more time to think about that. He’s certainly better than Cain or Perry, and I can guarantee I won’t be voting for Romney.

A closing thought from Chesterton:
“It is the mark of our whole modern history that the masses are kept quiet with a fight. They are kept quiet by the fight because it is a sham-fight; thus most of us know by this time that the Party System has been popular only in the sense that a football match is popular.” – A Short History of England

Who said I was a big Ron Paul supporter?

I know what happened in the 1990s. The Contract with America was great political coup and helped stave off financial ruin for a decade. The problem is after 1996 Gingrich went back to being a typical politician and remains so to this day.

How old were you in 1992? Yes, your vote for Paul would be a vote for Obama, if you live in a contested swing state, it would be like voting for Obama TWICE. That’s the Realpolitik of the situation.

The answer to your dissatisfaction with the two party system isn’t to throw out the baby with the bathwater. Right your congressman for publicly funded elections. Donate to a 3rd party if you like. But don’t waste your vote on a candidate who won’t win.

I would close with a thought from Bismarck:

They treat me like a fox, a cunning fellow of the first rank. But the truth is that with a gentleman I am always a gentleman and a half, and when I have to do with a pirate, I try to be a pirate and a half.

Gingrich can clearly hold his own in debates. And let’s face it, for many Americans, the debates between Obama and whatever Republican nominee is still standing will be a big deciding factor in who they vote for.
Gingrich always has clear, detailed answers for whatever questions are asked of him. He would be able to see through and around any pitfalls or traps that are laid for him by the media.

The primary process is about weeding out the weak and picking the strongest canddiate to face the most anti-Christian President in our modern times. Obama must go for sure. Hermain Cain in the past couple weeks has shown that he is not ready for prime time. I had hopes that he could do it but I dont think so.

ALL Christain voters must unite behind Newt. If we do so, then he will be the nominee and he will be a formidable foe for Obama I can guarentee that.

If anybody here does not think Newt is the guy. Then say so, then I will take you head on and I will prove you wrong!
