Are you a Democrat? I read the corpus of your posts and you seem to strongly favor Romney when Gingrich is clearly the stronger conservative, much more articulate on the issues, and actually knows exactly what he will do his first week in office.

YOu favor tax raises as a means of shrinking the deficit, in spite of the fact that the only effect that raising taxes has is to grow the size of government. Congress NEVER uses extra revenue to pay down the debt. It ALWAYS takes the extra revenue and finds new ways to spend it. Yet, this is what you favor. I am not making an accusation, just pointing a few things out that beg the question.
One can only guess.

I’ve observed “I am a Romney/Huntsman supporter” to be double-speak for “I am a Democrat”, regarding the GOP primaries.

Huntsman seems to be the canidate of choice for democrats.

Polls taken of Republican voters show that Romney has been consistently one of the top three candidates among Republicans, not Democrats.

Where is your support for this statement. I thought that most Democrats will be supporting Obama.
Correction. Huntsman seems to be the REPUBLICAN candidate of choice among Democrats. Doesn’t mean they will be voting Republican if he gets the GOP nod. It just means that of the 8 official candidates, Huntsman seems to be their stated preference. Maybe because they know that Obama would cream Huntsman in the general election? 🤷

I have yet to have met one of those registered or likely Republicans that has Romney as their first candidate.

Ironically, Romney’s problem is that he is “too perfect”. Flawless hair, impeccable family and personal history, good business and political credentials. Obama hired a bunch of lawyers to cover up objectionable material from his past. Romney doesn’t need to. Medial bloodhounds did all the digging they could and the best they could come up with is that in the 80s, he strapped his dog’s cage to the roof of their station wagon when they went on road trips…but the dog liked riding up there. 🤷 What it does is make Romney “uninteresting”. We are in the American Idol era of politics. We like to be able to see Simon Cowell insulting a candidate for a flub. Romney doesn’t have any flubs. He isn’t “spectacular” as a candidate. Using the American Idol reference, he is a singer at Caesar’s Palace. Good enough to sell out crowds that come to town as a distraction from gambling, but not quite good enough to go on a world tour as a headline act.

I’m a registered Republican who voted for Romney in the 2008 primary (a day before he pulled out of the running 😛 ). I felt he was a better option than McCain. I’m undecided right now. If it comes down to Gingrich vs Romney, I’m still undecided. I think they both have electability issues. If it’s close between Cain, Gingrich and Romney when the primaries get to me, I would probably go Cain.

I don’t suspect that the others will be on the ballot by the time it gets to my state…except for Ron Paul, but I’m not a big fan. Then again, compared to Romney and Gingrich? 🤷

I’m in the Paul camp. I will be very disappointed if he tries to go third party if he doesn’t get the nod. I understand where he is coming from and I agree with him. But we need to get abortion as part of our history, rather than our present, which means Obama has to go first.

I am also undecided but leaning toward Romney as the best candidate to challenge Obama. I am also assuming that its a two-way race between Romney and Gingrich. I have followed Gingrich since the mid-80’s and he was kind of a hero of mine in terms of his framing of arguments in favor of Reagan’s foreign policy. Of course he argued like a history professor and his facts and logic were unassailable. He is like that now. While I have a soft spot for Gingrich, I think of the billion dollar war chest that Obama is amassing for the election campaign. It is for smearing the GOP nominee, whoever it is. I believe that Gingrich will be an easy target for that billion dollars. That’s $1,000,000,000. I know that Romney will be smeared too, but I think it will be harder to smear Romney. Some have mistinterpreted my comments as being unfair toward Gingrich or being too favorable toward Romney, but that is honestly how I see it in light of political reality. Would I like someone with the ideas of Rick Santorum as president? Yes. But is that realistic? No. I hear Newt interviewd on the radio all the time and he still amazes me. If he won the nomination I would support him as best I could, as I would Romney. As another poster has said, the first priority is defeating Obama.
Code:
**Gingrich hasn't been fully exposed to the GOP base as yet.** Wait until the evangelicals hear all about the skeletons in his closet - and it sinks in. He has made a hit because of his clever debates to date, but that will wither away when people really learn the sordid tales of his past. His conversion to Catholicism will boost him among conservative Catholics, true, but not help him among evangelicals. Mark my word.
?? Gingrich hasn’t been exposed to the GOP base? What do you think the GOP base has been doing the past twenty years, sleeping? I assure you, Gingrich’s baggage has been there for everyone to see for years. If what you’re saying is true, it would have already have happened.
If Gingrich does win the nomination, either a strong evangelical third party will emerge, strong in the South and Midwest, or millions of evangelicals will stay home. Obama will win, probably by a landslide plurality. 45% for Obama, 38% for Gingrich, 17% for others,
An evangelical 3rd party? Who among the evangelicals would run and get more than 1%?

That’s nice.
The last time I looked Reconciliation confers grace, it doesn’t make up for a lack of integrity nor prevent relapses.

As a Catholic I am glad Newt has got right with God and I wish him well. As a voter I have every right to judge him by his past & my rule of thumb is “people don’t change”.
St Paul will be disappointed to hear that opinion.🤷

Thumbs up you agree that Obama will have a billion dollars and will use it to smear his opponent? Or thumbs up because he will smear his opponent? Or both?

Ishii
I have no idea how much he will have. But if you say he will have a billion, then thumbs up as well that he will have a billion to counter the GOP machine. But my thumbs up was agreeing with you that Gingrich would be an easy target. That was all. I believe both sides will go negative, Ishii. Conservatives attack Obama. I’m bracing for a very negative campaign.

Conservatives will attack Obama on his record, and there is plenty to attack. 👍

Since he is an empty suit, I expect his attacks to be devoid of specifics - just general Republicans will starve your grandparents and eat your children scare tactics.

Yes, I noticed while listening to a clip of Obama talking here recently that cutting government spending means that grandma’s everywhere will roll over dead.

I’m not the least bit surprised that there are folks in this country who believe this nonsense.

There is a certain culture of people who have a guilty conscious for living in a prosperous nation. It’s kind of ironic, a free people through guilt will eventually enslave themselves. While a person whose born into slavery through determination will always look for a way to be free.

I was listening to Cokie Roberts on Monday, and she pretty much said Gingrich’s baggage will get him once it’s out there.

I’m truly amazed that people think we Republicans are naive and uniformed. 😦

:rotfl: you say “GOP Machine” and out of the other side of your mouth, gleefully agree that Obama will have over a billion dollars in his war chest. Which one is a “machine” again? :rotfl:
