That about sums it up. Although he tends to wax Fredphelpsesque when it comes to the topic of homsexuality. He has quite pointedly stated that we as a country are being punished by God for our gross immorality. 🤷
 
But what will hurt Gingrich is the news today of his ex-wife (will be on ABC tonight) saying that he wanted an “open” marriage and was having an affair with Callista (his present wife) while being married to his second!

Now, this was some time ago and meanwhile he has converted to the Catholic faith (I’m assuming his other marriages were annulled but I don’t know) and he’s saying he’s changed and repented and he probably has but a lot of women will hold that against him, never mind that Clinton had far more outrageous sexual liasons going on when he was in office!

I’m afraid that Romney will be nominated. I love Santorum but really don’t think he’ll have a chance with the Republican party.

As for Ron Paul, he’ll never be nominated and if he decides to run as an independent, you can bet that Obama will win if Paul runs or Romney is nominated, as Romney has the problem of appearing too wealthy for others and doesn’t have the charisma one needs.

Unfortunately, I am getting that feeling.

It’s not that I dislike any of the candidates much, any one would be an improvement over Obama, but I don’t neccesarily LIKE anyone that much, either.

My personal feeling are that Jindal, Rubio, Christie and some of the other “new” faces were afraid to run against Obama, and are hedging their bets for 2016.

I think they were uncomfortable running in the current Tea Party GOP environment. Christie in particular is not nearly conservative enough for this season’s GOP. Rubio and Jindal may have simply felt they were not ready. But it seems to me that many of the GOP’s first stringers – Christie, Daniels, Jeb – are hoping the extreme right Tea Party movement runs its course so they can jump in next round.

Especially if Ron Paul is nominated - he would not carry a single state. I frankly don’t understand why so many people here seem to actually believe he could get the nomination. Notice that most of the candidates just ignore him. If there ever comes a time that the GOP thinks Paul is getting actually competitive for the nomination they will unleash a load of Super PAC ads that will make what Gingrich and Romney are doing to each other seem like compliments. They aren’t doing it now because 1) they don’t think he has a chance and 2) they are afraid he will go third party if they annoy him too much.

Although I’ve been following politics closely, I haven’t heard whether or not Newt Gingrich’s first two marriages were annulled along with any previous marriages of his third wife.

Were all previous marriages of Newt Gingrich and his thrid wife annulled?

The bumpy marriage relationship of Newt and Marianne was first noticed when the couple separated in June 1987. After having separate residences for six years, Newt and Marianne reportedly reconciled. Marianne and Newt separated again on May 10, 1999 and Newt filed for divorce on July 29, 1999. In May 2002, Newt asked the Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta for an annulment based on the fact that Marianne was reportedly previously married.

Back in the 1990s, she [Marianne] told a reporter she could end her husband’s career with a single interview. She held her tongue all through the affair and the divorce and even through the annulment Gingrich requested from the Catholic Church two years later, trying to erase their shared past.

Gingrich went to confession and converted to Catholicism in 2009

She seems to still be bitter.

Yes.

Newt’s second marriage was obviously invalid because neither his prior marriage nor his new wife’s prior marriage were annulled when they got remarried.

His first marriage was immediately after he graduated high school. He married the 26-year old who was his high-school teacher and carried on a secret love-affair with him while he was a student. (Sourced)

I understand the issue with the second marriage(s). It makes me wonder what were the grounds for the annullment of his marriage to his high school teacher and the mother of his daughters? I realize that’s none of my business.

Catholicism is more forgiving than I thought.
 
It is a pretty sad state of affairs when the Republicans can’t nominate someone who stands an even chance of probably the worst President in history, with a horrific foreign affairs and domestic record, the staunchest support of abortion on demand, and is prone to passing unconstitutional legislation using backroom deals, opposition party lockouts, and collectivist pandering in the dead of the night when noone is paying attention.

Well since Bobby Jindal was my Governor until recently I’ll say that he has clearly said he has plenty to do in Louisiana. He also has a growing family and maybe he doesn’t want to up root his young children?

Possibly , a thought shared by many !

While we can thinkof many reasons , one significant event that may not have been atoned for by Republicans could be the circumstances of the Iraq war - having chosen to go against Pope John Paul11 's warning and the subsequent destruction of much , including Christian churches and lives there .

What makes it worse too is , that Republicans , of all the people, should have understood the signs of the times , with regard to the fall of communism and gratefully , followed up in the path !

The claimed role of the party as an enlightened entity , in protection of life also possibly adding to the culpability.

One evident fact with regard to Gingrich is , he is a witness of reparation to the role of holy guidance in The Church and , may be thus , provided , to meet the large scale need for humility !

To the general topic of annulment, however, there was found to be an impediment to forming the marriage.

I think the most obvious impediment would become more obvious if we applied it to hypothetical gender-reversal: a 24-year old man has an inappropriate romantic relationship with his 17-year old student and she marries him immediately after she graduates. You do the math on that one.

Via Matt Lewis, this tidbit from today’s New York Post is intriguing:
In 1995, when Vanity Fair magazine asked Marianne what would happen if Newt ran for president, she boasted she could derail the bid with a single TV interview.

“He can’t do it without me,” she said.

“I told him if I’m not in agreement, fine, it’s easy.

“I just go on the air the next day, and I undermine everything . . . I don’t want him to be president, and I don’t think he should be.”
She said that to Vanity Fair three years before she found out about Newt’s affair
