I don’t know that this is a high bar for parenting, but it is a very good bar.

I don’t think the hair cut was from the dad. The dad and stepmom ordered her to get it cut and she did so. Does that constitute assault. No charges so far…

I too have known a number of dads who took sons to strip joints and/or prostitutes. A few years back there was a mom with an eight year old and stripper in news.

There seems to be no recourse for these kids - no protection.

The article is explicit that Dad cut the hair, it repeats that claim. The mom then took her to a hairdresser to get a wig fitted.

The girl scouts are selling on the street outside the dispensary. They are not selling inside and have no real association with the dispensary. They have just set up shop outside to catch passing marijuana smokers who might want to buy cookies. Nobody can stop them from selling stuff on the streets, so nothing illegal has happened here.

I think you may be right so let us wait and see if any charges are handed down.

I know they they are selling outside the dispensary but what bothers me is the dispensaries are using it as a photo opt to look positive the same as a liquor store, race track or prostitution ranch might do to make themselves more acceptable. These are 7 to 10 ten year girls and all I see and hear even on the forums is praise for their “smart” business sense.

No one at the dispensaries or in the girl scout leadership are saying anything - no rules on what is allowable.

Heavens no, we won’t see any charges.
The daughter and Mom want to move past it, remember Dad has custody.
I was only pointing out that this bad parenting example was much worse than the OP example

Why would cutting a child’s hair be more traumatizing than letting her stand out front a pot dispensary, race track, bar, prostitution ranch to sell cookies for three years? This is just bad parenting too but the way everyone is talking her “smart” business sense makes it seem OK.

At least most would disagree on the haircut. Remember the dad and stepmom were let go from their jobs(on leave) on fire department. There was recourse to their actions.

Granted she was 13 - older but then probably was able to think more about it and why her dad did it then a 7 -10 year old.

In one instant the dad and stepmom were let go from the jobs at fire department. In the other so many are praising the parents of the girl for “smart” business sense. There is a disconnect,

Doesn’t trauma normally stem from conflict?

A big fight with parents, the most powerful and important people in a child’s life can be traumatic.

Cookie sales on the sidewalk outside a pot shop is no more traumatic than cookie sales outside the local safeway.

Why did you add bar, race track, and prostitution ranch into the equation?

I added bar, race track and prostitution ranches because these are all places that are seen as adult establishments such as a pot dispensary. Is there no age of consent to go in?

Depends on state but most things like liquor, race tracks and prostitution ranches are age 21 while in some states it is 18.

Saw this…

“Sorry, but minors under 18 are not allowed inside any part of a dispensary where marijuana is present, even if they are patients or employees. Recreational sales are only for those 21 and over, but people ages 18-21 with valid OMMP licenses are still welcome to purchase medicinal marijuana at Green Front.”

Nevada (only state with legal prostitution ranches) has major child prostitution problems.

No she was not inside but she was selling for the Girl Scouts and the pot industry used picture as promotion photo opt saying some in get GMS with your cookies… Again these are 7 year old girls and up.

This was not a McDonalds. So the people who see this little girl having “smart” business sense agree that all places of promotion such as race tracks, bars, liquor store, prostitution ranches, abortion clinics - all places where cookies can be sold should be promoted by Girl Scouts.

Race tracks, bars, and liquor stores are not inherently sinful. Where prostitution ranches and abortion clinics are always sinful. I’ve taken my child into a liquor store before. In my state a child can enter a liquor store with a parent. Over Christmas time I make a bunch of sweet treats. One of the treats I always make is Rum Balls (they are yummy), which require rum. There is nothing inherently sinful to take a child to a liquor store to buy rum. Just like there is nothing sinful about him seeing me buying wine or beer from a regular grocery store. Also I’ve been to race tracks before as a child, nothing inherently sinful about those places either. In fact they’re fun to watch the horses

You are totally missing the point of setting cookie sales up outside a cannabis dispensary. Whether deliberately so, I can’t tell.
