Social Justice does require us to give to the poor, but is it not also best to help the poor improve their lives by teaching them, giving them a job, and setting them up to be able to succeed on their own? That is the social justice I think Christ wants us to do.What problem is it you are talking about? Perhaps this is where there has been such a misunderstanding - I do not see any problem with the Social Justice Teaching of the Catholic Church - perhaps others do - but if they do - I can only wonder why they remain in communion?
This is why the government shouldn’t do it. They do give the poor money that fixes the short-term problems, but they are still going to be reliant on the government in the future (Not to mention the government is trying to get federal funding for abortion, which is a big no-no.)
This is what I think Glenn Beck is trying to say.
Now, I am actually an old listener of Glenn Beck’s. I actually won a game of “Apples to Apples” from him on a trivia thing he did during his Christmas tour. He’s not some mean-spirited guy. He says that if government spending set people up for success and not dependency, it would be great. But it doesn’t. Beck is a big fan of charities, however, which I believe are much better than government spending.
