Everybody knows that God gave us the bible. It was given by God as a whole book from Genesis to Revelation. Everyting we need for life is in the bible. Protestants are right.we do not need a church of any kind.All we need is the Bible.

The Lord’s public ministry was not necessary, He could have done it in private. We have His word in the bible handed down to us from God. God gave us the bible. The Catholic Church put books into it that God did not pen. Protestants took them out again!

We do not need the Catholic Church as we are free to interpret it as we want. That is why athiests interpret it different to SDA which is different to JW’s which is different to Moslems, which is different to mainstream Protestants which is different to Catholic and Orthodox.

It can be interpreted however you want. My agnostic friends interpret it and they dont even believe in it.

So we did not need a Catholic Church. The Catholic Church the pope and His Apostles were actually not necessary.

Please show me one piece of info that you can get that will say Catholic worship Mary and you are to worship a BOOK

They speak of a vague, unidentifiable “invisible Church,” and the very concept of a Church that has authority over their belief system meets with a shocked and horrified reaction - how dare anybody tell them what to believe!! Even their own leadership is prohibited from doing anything more than make suggestions - the historic Protestant Articles of Faith, Creeds, and Catechisms are of historical interest, but not binding upon the faithful and God help the poor zealot who gets up in a pulpit and proclaims that he’s got the Truth, and you poor sinners better repent - he’ll be hung, drawn, and quartered for a lack of love, being code for, didn’t support my choice to abort/divorce/shoplift/have sex out of wedlock/etc.

Each Protestant is his or her very own Pope, General Council, Bishop, priest, and litugy coordinator - a church of one. And God help anybody who suggests to them that they might not have their own personal Holy Spirit.

Most Protestant Churches can trace their lineage back to the Pre-Reformation Catholic Church organization and from there to Peter.
Do you Catholic Holy Rollers not understand that before the splits our histories were the same? Geez! I need a chill pill!

Your guys went into schism, and then started their own new religions. Just as Jesus schismated against the Jews, and started the Catholic Church.

Catholics are not Jews, because Jesus made a split with the Jews. (They crucified Him for this.)

The Protestants are not Catholic, because their original leaders made a split with the Catholic Church and started up their own religions. A great deal of violence also ensued from that - on both sides.

Point being, when you left, you didn’t stay. You created a new religion, and that religion dates back to the day that you started it. You can’t have it both ways - you can’t rebel against the old religion, start up a new religion, and then say that you are still faithful to the old religion. You can’t break off all connection, and then say that you are in some way connected. It just doesn’t work that way.

I was indeed informed by an obsure group alleging support from the American Bishops Conference that on their approval, I had been excommunicated.

Our local clergy found this highly amusing and cited my annoying habit of duelling with Extremist Right Wing American elements as the probable cause

Our own Bishop’s canon lawyer qualified it as invalid, in view of my reputation for being ‘very’ orthodox- catholic. It provided much entertainment at Diocesan level that a ‘Divine Office Catholic’ became ‘excommunicated’!

I am concerned about the prosecution of the faith by some [doubtless well intentioned] extremist elements within the Church who actually damage her reputation by their adherence to mis-information and circulation of spurious Catholic teaching.

Much of what I say in starting threads is actually rhetorical in order to engage debate. I do as a matter of course, try to take a more hollistic approach in my contributions to the various threads.

My rule of thumb which I often pass on to others particularly young altar servers who I train is from St Augustine ‘love and do what you will’! I think that is a good principle by which to live. Does that sound to you like ‘taking the piss’! You judge!!

But it was the Hebrew version from 90 AD wasn’t it? And the purpose of that version was to ‘correct’ the new teachings put forward by a Jew named Jesus Christ.

From the Greek logos which does mean word, but it has always referred to the Second Person of God, not Scripture. Did you think that God’s word was Scripture?

I’m assuming that some churches maybe fade in and out? Maybe they can only be seen on Sunday morning. That would be a tremendous space saver. The rest of the week, they could be used as parking lots.

I wonder if you have to have special glasses to see all this invisible stuff. I wonder if the glasses interpret. Who thought this up, by the way? The demand for invisible glasses must be over the moon.

What about folks who can’t afford to buy glasses to see invisible stuff? Do they have to use invisibility-impaired canes? Invisible-eye dogs? Are there ‘approved’ glasses? WalMart bargain glasses? How can a person be sure that what the glasses show is really there?

Do some glasses show stuff which is not there? That would be really embarrassing to find out you’ve been going to an invisible church which isn’t there. And pushing an invisible button for interpreting the Bible and then getting an infomercial for Raybans instead.

Which Apostle founded your church Robert? can you trace the linage of your preachers back to one of the Apostles?

Eph. 2:20 “Having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone”. My Church follows this model. My church’s foundation is built on [all] the apostles, because that’s what God say’s to build it on. The word is plural; apostle, not apostle. There are no errors in the Bible. We are not to bend God’s word to agree with what we “think” He meant to say. Tenses in the Bible are there for a reason, and are not up for debate.
The lineage of my Church traces it’s roots back to Jesus Christ who is our High Priest.

Joseph Smith claimed to have (magic glasses) just what you are talking about. But his bible is not the same.

Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice” John 10:3-16. Anyone who is not one of God’s sheep wouldn’t understand, or hear His voice. Jesus spoke in parables much for the same reason, so that those that were not His, would not understand what He was saying.
The Apostle Paul wrote that the natural mind cannot understand spiritual things 1 Cor. 2:14
When we are born again, we are a new creation, and all things become new. Maybe being born again is the “magic button” that you are looking for.
