The M-16 is the military equivalent. Replace AR with M-16.
No, it is not.

Not even close.

How on earth could you think that? That’s almost laughable. The only reason I’m not chuckling is I respect you.

The AR-15 has proven to be a high risk weapon and there’s no reason the general public needs access to it.
So you’d be fine with semi-auto variants of G3’s, AK’s, M14’s, HK91’s, etc.?

You know, that’s a pretty rude comment for someone that just joined this Forum site and just recently became Catholic. If you want to be treated respectfully, you need to not be rude.

Eh, he’s not wrong.

Remove select fire and add some inches to the barrel and it’s the same thing.

For the record I’d take an M16 in a minute. Holy smokes. Why would I waste my time with a .22-cal hunting rifle built for civilians when I could have 5.56 NATO rounds, every third a tracer, with three round burst? Or FULL AUTO prior to the M16A2 conversion?

That’s not even a question. But they are not the same weapon by far. Not even close.

We don’t use M16s anymore, actually. The move is to the M4. Still not an AR equivalent. You’re being swayed by sexy underpinnings to include that pistol grip and barrel guard. An AR is useless in the battlefield.

He’s very wrong. Having fired both, owning one, and having carried one as a K9 handler in Saudi Arabia, I know what I’m speaking of. There’s no comparing them.

The AR IS closer to the old GUU/GAU, but still not the same - especially when it comes to firepower. Start changing calibers and barrels and you’re completely changing the capability of the weapon.

I consider myself no less a warfighter than my buddies who fly the fighters or who turn the wrenches on the same aircraft.
And yet, the comment asking if someone was a chef in the military (somehow implying they do not know about weapons ) was okay with you? I think it was offensive, while you liked it. 🤔

Yep, because I agreed with the sentiment - the comment was directed at a person I completely disagreed with.

I thought something along the same lines myself. I was shocked at a veteran with those thoughts.

Wow, thats really nice. Especially after you said you respect him in another post.

There is no rule saying I have to agree with everything everyone says just because we all were or are in the military. There’s no rule saying anyone currently in or now out of the military has to agree with me either. We’re people as well, with varying opinions on a lot of topics. We didn’t check the right to those opinions at the door.

I can respect someone and completely disagree with their views. Those concepts are not mutually exclusive.

I’ve fired both as well. The only difference is select fire vs semi.

That’s me, shooting my buddies department issued full auto SBR. I didn’t do a mag dump, I was doing purposeful bursts to keep it controlled. But it was fully automatic

This is a small sample of my own collection I built by hand those suppressors and the rifles. I’m intimately familiar with the mechanical operations of the AR and M16. With the exception of select fire capability, they are identical.

Don’t take this as me being anti gun. I think everyone should be legally required to own them 😋

I’m just saying spy isn’t wrong.

Then laugh at your own ignorance.

"The AR-15 was developed as a more portable alternative to the 7.62-mm (.308-calibre) battlefield rifles of the day, but ArmaLite had limited success in marketing it to the U.S. military. The AR-15 design was licensed to Colt’s Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company (later Colt’s Manufacturing LLC) in 1959, and upon its adoption by the U.S. Air Force in 1962, the AR-15 was designated the M16 by the Department of Defense. Modified "

The M-16 is the select fire military version of the civilian AR-15 semi-auto 5.56 rifle.

Hey Pup7, being you’re former military, you’re familiar with close air support. How do I obtain one of these? 😉

I maintain they’re not the same weapon. To get from one to the other is changing more than one letter, if you know what I mean. My friends who run arms instruction agree. :woman_shrugging:t2: It’s okay if you don’t - that’s not a smart remark, btw.

Awesome collection, though. My husband has built both our ARs. I’m not that inclined. I’m glad he is. :slight_smile:Funny how the noncitizen in the house is more into guns than I am. 🙂

Dude when I find that out I’ll call you.

I have buddies who are A10 pilots…🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 What they have access to is also awesome. Surely they’d hook a sister up!

But that is precisely what would happen. Banning an AR doesn’t stop the problem. The gun is not the problem. There’s something else here.

That’s exactly what would happen though.

Restrict access to one and something else is just going take the place as the new most popular weapon for mass shootings.

I disagree with banning anything, but if you’re going to go after 1 you might as well go after them all for the sake of logical consistency lol

@JanSobieskiIII I appreciate you defending the truth.

As I said, my CATM instructors disagree. I’m not ignorant. I know what I was taught and what they teach.

Developed by AR doesn’t mean it’s the military equivalent. It’s not.
