What more should they be required to do: police and military personnel too, and at no extra salary?
As you have been told this is only for those teachers who express a willingness to do this. If I were a teacher I would do it immediately. Wouldn’t have to think twice.

If they truly cared about their students they’d teach them to treat each other with respect and teach them that gun violence is wrong. Instead, they’re basically saying that gun violence is okay as long as they’re benefiting from it.

Why are people deifying guns? You can’t have gun violence without guns.

Texas is not New York. New Yorkers are not brought up in a gun culture. A friend of mine, who is a native New Yorker, moved to a rural area of Louisiana and told me that all the professors he knew there carried shot guns or rifles as if they were part of their clothing. It’s not that way in New York City, and the chances of being killed by misfired stray bullets increase due to the larger population.
Absolutely correct. That’s why I think local jurisdictions need to be able to do what they feel is best to protect their students.

How do you suggest that gun violence be ended? How is arming teachers going to prevent suicidal mass murderers from shooting up a school in the first place?

Can’t have violence without guns? Pick up a history book. Are you trying to set a record for ridiculous statements in this thread?

But if you really were a teacher, as I am, you probably wouldn’t immediately volunteer to do it because you would be overwhelmed with all the other responsibilities you have.

Whataboutism at its finest. Gun fanatics apparently think that gun violence is okay because it’s possible to be violent without a gun.

Are you saying that violence is okay?

Have you ever heard of World War 2? I heard lots of guns were used to commit acts of violence in that war.

Ok, this is not for you. I would risk my life for these kids, but I consistently shoot in the black so I would bet on me over the bad guy. I also know at least five teachers who think its a no brainer to train in firearms, and interestingly enough, four of them are women.

Do you think the government should force teachers to have guns?
You are not listening. I’ve already said this would ONLY be for teachers who expressed a willingness to go through the training and take on this responsibility. Maybe the school system could give them a little extra in their paycheck for volunteering.

I was replying to your ridiculous statement that you can’t have violence without guns, you know, it was you that said it. I’ve never said violence is ok, and it’s pretty uncharitable of you to say that. This is the awfulness of the discourse when gun rights supporters are accused of supporting kids being murdered and other nasty things. I guarantee you I want the same objective as you or anyone else in this discussion. I respect your views that I believe you hold sincerely, so do the same for others.

What if a teacher doesn’t feel comfortable being around people with guns stuffed down their pants during school and around children? Should they be fired?

You seriously want to pay people for owning guns?! I thought gun fetishism was out of hand, but this is truly out there.

You’re the last person I’d want around my child. My child is taught to respect other people and to follow God’s law.
So you do have kids. You never answered me. Would you kill someone who was trying to harm your child? You have already said you don’t think enough of yourself to save your own life. What about your kid’s life?
