Gun violence - lest we forget

A conviction is a conviction. Either way, the criminal is punished. And since you mention borderline cases, the prosecutor may be making a wise choice to get some conviction rather than no conviction. It is always easy to second guess others in the performance of their duties.
the perps were back on the street and were being sought for other crimes, that was why they were on the podcast. they served months instead of years.
We are enforcing this law. The fact that it is sometimes broken is no proof it is not being enforced.
how can you prove this?
This is is being enforced to the extent that it can be. It is very hard to police the on-line world.
really? they seem able to do it pretty well for other things. do you want to stop the private sale of illegal guns or just take everybody’s guns?

Whataboutism.
Just responding to the poster who brought it up. But she’s a liberal, so you attack me instead.
So what’s the problem? If they are qualified to own a gun they should pass a background check.
Do you really believe the gun restricters would allow minors to own guns? And why should my wife have to pass a background check at all if there is a weapon in our home? Are you going to require that I make it unavailable to her?
That is a valid concern. I’m sure they can come up with some sort of clause that pertains to immediate family.
I certainly do doubt that will happen if the gun banners have their way.

Couldn’t admit that a liberal was the one to whom I responded (Emerald Lady)? Just couldn’t admit it.
Why do you think that LbN, or anyone for that matter, shares the urge to label people?

Most people do not sign on to this level of pessimism
I’m a Realist.
will not use it as an excuse to do nothing.
There’s plenty being done. However, you’ll have to accept the fact that there will always be deranged people bent on committing acts of violence.

We need to intercept these individuals before they act on their impulses.

when you ban guns

a good example of the revolving door even though it doesn’t involve a gun (bold mine).

when do we throw away the key?
Todd Lyons, 33, appeared to crack a smile during his Sunday morning arraignment hearing as he learned he was going to be charged with felony and misdemeanor assault for three attacks on white victims, the New York Post reported.

Police say he was free on two previous assault charges and had committed up to seven new racially-motivated attacks.

We don’t have to be worried about being killed by people breaking into our homes today. We can be shot a church, a theatre, a school…anywhere that haters want to bring their weaponry.

It is an extreme exaggeration of a reality.
why? it is what happens when only the criminals have guns.

or, are you admitting the AR isn’t as much of a problem as the media and anti-gun crowd want to make it out to be.

It is unreal because increased background checks will reduce the number of criminals with guns, and yes, the AR-15 is not the worst problem. Nor should it be a problem to regulate it, since there is no need for it in most urban environments.

yes, you can be shot anywhere

a perfect reason to conceal carry

but don’t overlook home invasions

2.5 mil burglaries a year with 66% home-break-ins

No, you can be shot before you even know to draw your gun.

That’s less than a 0.7% chance of being the victim of a burglary, and the vast majority of them are done when no one is home and no one’s life is in danger.

no need in the urban areas? so the rest of the country doesn’t matter? wow!

i don’t believe bgc’s will bother criminals. most obtain them illegally or take from family and friends.

you can take your chances and other people can be better prepared
But when too many people do what you say to “be better prepared”, I and others will be exposed to worse chances because of a world super-saturated with guns.

I didn’t say that. I can see allowing AR-15s for those farmers and ranchers who need one to manage their farm.

Background checks can reduce every single one of the sources listed.

Mostly what I have seen here are attempts to criminalize the law abiders. Yes, criminalize. Radical word, I know.

Nothing about the inner city culture. Nothing about the inner city gangs. Just platitudes about how they too will obey the laws that apply to the law abiding. Right. Very very little about the War On Drugs. Very little about mental illness. Very little about how we help or don’t help the mentally ill. No it’s about the getting the law abiding onto a list so their guns can be taken. Dianne Feinstein doesn’t have the power now, everyone is correct about that, but she has said how she would use it. Of course the pro gun control folks in this thread will deny that is the ultimate aim. But then again who could have imagined gay marriage 25 years ago? This stuff happens by mission creep going inch by inch over a period of years and decades. Just you wait until a radical leftist becomes President. Only a matter of time now, whether it is next year or 2024, doesn’t matter, it’s coming. The leftists are practically salivating over what they’re going to do to the rest of us.

Further, there is an inordinate focus on rifles when they are actually a small percentage of overall gun homicides. Why is that? What is so bad that is being planned for us that they have to absolutely positively get the rifles out of our hands? You honestly think the censorship and the deplatforming taking place now will stop there? Fear of government overreach is not misplaced.

I grew up in California: when they finally get The Big One, how many people will not even have 3 days of food in their homes? Handguns will be insufficient to defend one’s home against the chaos that will result within a week. Rifles will be needed as standoff weapons, even in a urban environment. The police will protect me? They’ll be too busy taking care of their own families.

At least, Leaf stopped with the “whataboutism” regarding inner city gun deaths, credit where credit due even if I still find myself in disagreement.
