Because nothing is truly secure against talented thieves and it would be punishing me for acts of another, and for which I had no intent at all.Why shouldn’t you?

You mean the thieves are so talented that they could steal your AR-15 without your knowing about it for months?LeafByNiggle:![]()

mandated, non-voluntary, sounds like confiscation to me. the question is, could a president do it with an executive order?I think you are paranoid. Feinstein does not have such powers. I would prefer if you would criticize the suggestion on the ground what it says and not how could it it be abused by some who have no such powers. Personally I don’t like guns, and as such I don’t have one. But I am not the “measure of all things”. There are people who like to hunt, there are people who love target practice, and there are people who are paranoid, and want protection. All are legitimate endeavors.
O’Rourke emphasized the buyback law would be mandatory, not a choice, forcing Americans to turn in specified weapons.
“Buy those weapons of war back. Mandate that. Not voluntarily. Let’s be really clear with our fellow Americans,” O’Rourke said in separate interview with MSNBC.
O’Rourke also supports a national gun registry program.
Earlier Friday, an appeals court reversed Jose Inez Garcia-Zarate’s 2017 conviction for possession of a firearm by a felon.
This comes after he accused a judge of failing to tell the jury it’s not a crime to “momentarily” have a gun. The 46-year-old claims he found the firearm on a San Francisco pier, picked it up, and it “accidentally” went off.
There is no reason under the sun that a person is “entitled” constitutionally to own a semi-assault rifle that can be jimmied to fire as an assault rifle in war time.mandated, non-voluntary, sounds like confiscation to me. the question is, could a president do it with an executive order?
the latest from presidential candidate o’rourke
in the past, I read a blog post discussing the picture of the people standing over top their business with their rifles during the LA riots and how their stores were spared. they also discussed how the AR was used for protection in the aftermath of Katrina. the blog went on to name a number of individual incidents where everyday people used AR-type weapons for protection. There is no reason under the sun that a person is “entitled” constitutionally to own a semi-assault rifle that can be jimmied to fire as an assault rifle in war time.
that is one opinionThese exceptional circumstances do not justify keeping an AR-15 on speculation. The cost to society is too great.
The trouble is there is no way to make the AR easily available to the right hands without also making it easily available to the wrong hands.LeafByNiggle:![]()

in the right hands, it is a benefit to society, no matter the cost
it will always be available to the wrong hands even when you take it away from the good hands. as the thriving black market shows us with other banned substances. The trouble is there is no way to make the AR easily available to the right hands without also making it easily available to the wrong hands.
I am not quite so pessimistic that we cannot do anything to make it harder for the wrong people to get such weapons.LeafByNiggle:![]()

what more can Walmart do but not sell any guns? do you see why gunnies won’t give an inch? the Dems want everything. they want to take’m allThis is a good start—but it’s not nearly enough. Walmart can and should do much more.
Why do you think that "anti’s think that taking away guns will stop mass murder?why do the anti’s think taking away the gun will stop mass murder?
It’s benefit to society exists on the battle field alone, which is where its concept was birthed and according to a myriad of firearm experts should remain.in the right hands, it is a benefit to society, no matter the cost
LeafByNiggle . . . .Yet, we all forget the weekly killings in Chicago.
Yet the title of the thread is "GunViolence. . ."Thank you for that perfect illustration of whataboutism.
@upant . . .
The title says “Gun violence - lest we forget” and the author of that title also wrote the first post, which was a list of mass shootings. Besides, it is incorrect to say that no one ever talks about weekly killings in Chicago (actually, it should be New Orleans, Detroit, St. Louis, or Baltimore, as these all have much higher homicide rates per capita).Yet, we all forget the weekly killings in Chicago.
