Has the #MeToo movement become a witch-hunt to a significant degree?

All of these “movements” should be taken with a grain of salt. It’s excruciatingly easy to run to court and concoct a sexual assault story for slander and publicity; Look what those lying Women did to Trump. Thirsty Women have been doing this since the beginning of time because it’s profitable and the Men in charge view them as too “angelic” to suspect any misconduct. So in that case this is a witch-hunt. There needs to be a new law in place that forces all of these “victims” to serve at least 25 years in prison with no parole if they can’t prove their case in court. I’d like to see how many “victims” are saying “Me Too” after that. If you really want “Social Justice”, there’s no problem in this, right? After all, the deceivers among them have been ruining men’s lives, so why not allow us justice by having the law ruin theirs?

This society’s not equal. Yes, Men hold most positions of power and the smartest/richest ones are more so than their female counterparts, however Women have been given a societal veneration that allows them to manipulate these Men as they please. For as many horrific acts happen to women, women are also clandestinely coordinating men to do it to themselves. Ultimately, deception runs in humanity’s blood, even Eve manipulated Adam into partaking of the fruit (Genesis 3:6).

Now, before I get slammed by interweb-warriors, I’m not saying Sexual Assault doesn’t happen at all, and you know I’m not. However when 25 different people and their grandma “come out” a day, that’s mess. And if they really mean what they say, we should have the 25-year minimum penalty to check them. Besides, if they aren’t lying, they have nothing to worry about. Just be careful about joining these “Justice” groups, because if you’re a Man in particular, once you’re no longer “expedient”, you’ll be a potential “predator” too.

But confidence will help them report these things when they happen.
Not if the system still revictimizes victim, not as long as victims are disbelieved by friends and family, not as long as schools have policies in place that protect assailants, not as long as gag orders are placed on victims when though their assault was shared on social media, not as long as people sympathise with the rapists losing scholarships or having their life ruined but zero mention of how the victim’s life has been affected, not as long as communities will attack the victim and their family, even driving them from their town, school, and home.

I can’t even.

For all you people wondering why women wait years to disclose, why they don’t press charges, why they spend DECADES in silence… THIS is why.

Do you understand the high burden of proof in criminal matters? Beyond a reasonable doubt. You’re saying that, in a society that is being repeatedly told that women are liars and manipulators, women should be punished if it turns out the can’t convince a jury beyond a reasonable doubt.

Way to empower abusers…

This guy has MRA written all over him. The first MRA activist I knew of attacked his (ex?)wife outside of her workplace in broad daylight. I went to his trial. The way they talk it’s obvious that they wish they could get away with violence like that whenever because women just deserve it.

Wow. Let’s look at what he has to say about the mother of God:
I’d rather an Angel (like Michael) or Adam/Eve be above me than someone who literally came out of nowhere in x point in time and got gracehax (x999) to become perfect despite the established rules… Which points to the question of why those rules exists (and thus, starts the rabbit hole).

Personally, if one must lead, I’d like to see either the Original 2, the Heavenly 2, Seraphim, or 12 Apostles hold the #1 spot, maybe even all of them together in the most bizarre turn of events, but Mary getting an eternal, unshared, #1 gracehax spot in Heaven doesn’t seem right,
Anyone but a woman.

Is there any other crime where we actually apply the idea of “beyond reasonable doubt”, not just to legal conviction, but to every possible consequence? If you steal something from me, but I can’t prove beyond reasonable doubt in court that I didn’t give it to you, does that mean I should be punished for making a false report? Or that I shouldn’t be able to tell people not to invite you over because you’re a thief?

I’m wondering whether this isn’t a poe or a moby, but just in case a few quick points:

–Isn’t the most economical explanation of why Trump has accusers is that at least some of them are telling the truth? Isn’t that what he himself has said (for example in the Access Hollywood tape and in his old Howard Stern interviews)? It doesn’t really make sense to carry water for Trump when he has bragged about similar behavior. Nobody has ever confused Donald Trump with Dudley Do-Right. His behavior around women is very, very well documented.

–This was especially precious: “There needs to be a new law in place that forces all of these “victims” to serve at least 25 years in prison with no parole if they can’t prove their case in court.”
–Plmokn, did you hear that? If a woman spoke up immediately, claiming sexual harassment or assault, TheNeutral wants them to get 25 years in prison if they can’t demonstrate it in court.

One of Larry Nassar’s victims told her parents. They didn’t believe her and after her father finally did, he killed himself.

“Unlike the other victims, Stephens is not an athlete, but has known Nassar for most of her life. Her parents were close friends with the doctor, and Nassar began sexually abusing her in her own home when she was a kindergartner, she said during her moving testimony.”

“The abuse put a strain on her relationship with her parents, Stephens said, noting that her family initially did not believe her when she first told them about the abuse.”

"Years later, when she was 12, Stephens told her parents about the abuse and her mother and father confronted their friend Nassar. Stephens said Nassar denied the abuse and “my parents chose to believe Larry Nassar over me.” She said her parents made her speak with Nassar about the allegations, and the predator allegedly told her, “No one should ever do that, and if they do, you should tell someone.”

“After that, Stephens said in court that her relationship with her parents deteriorated, especially her connection to her father.”

““His belief that I lied seeped into the foundation of our relationship,” she said. “Every time we got into a fight, he would tell me, ‘You need to apologize to Larry’ … I started to question whether the abuse ever happened. ””

"She ended up confronting her father about Nassar again when she was 18, before leaving for college. Her father, who later killed himself, finally believed her.

“My father and I did our best to patch up our tattered relationship before he committed suicide in 2016,” Stephens told the court through tears. “Admittedly, my father was experiencing debilitating health issues, but had he not had to bear the shame and self-loathing that stemmed from his defense of Larry Nassar, I believe he would have had a fighting chance for life.”

So:

–This woman did speak up as a girl, but her parents assumed she was a liar.
–Her abuse contributed to her father’s suicide.

So, men can be negatively affected by abuse, even when they themselves are not the victims.

And, come to think of it, that’s not how our criminal justice system works. In our system, we need to prove that the defendant is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The defendant in this situation would be the MeTooer, and it would be necessary to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that she (or he, actually) was being consciously deceitful.

After reading the response of women to men here, I do not think there is any room for discussion that will not result in slander against the man who posts it. And that is why I voted “yes.” For the record, ten percent false accusations are too high or me to vote “no,” even though I think the movement was needed, and still is needed.

My personal rule of thumb for weighing he said/she said is that if there is one accuser, it’s possible, if there’s two it’s likely, and if there are 3+, it’s almost certain. (Making allowances for some old cases where police accidentally led child witnesses.)

If you use that rule of thumb and believe when the same person is accused of the same activity by multiple people, a 10% false accusation rate is very unlikely to lead to injustice.

Note that a lot of the high-profile figures have had dozens (and occasionally hundreds) of accusers.

Weinstein, Affleck (both of them), Franco and a few others are not victims of a witch hunt. The journalists who covered those stories invested a lot of time and research, carefully examining the details and claims and checking for any contradictions. Those reports are not mere he said she said cases.

Yeah, with a lot of these media/Hollywood stories, the press really really did not want to cover it. It was the opposite of a witch hunt–more like an organized witch-ignoring.

The title of that piece is, “How Harvey Weinstein Put The Media In A Headlock.” Weinstein managed to kill stories for decades.

Here’s another reason why abuse of girls and women is bad for men in general.

Women with a history of abuse may wind up carrying baggage into their future marriages. Their husbands may wind up suffering because the history of abuse is an obstacle to having a happy, normal marriage.

Don’t date or marry a victim of abuse! I hear somebody in the back row saying. But if 20% of women were molested as children and some more were victimized as legal adults, that means that a large minority (maybe even a majority) of men are going to wind up dealing with the aftermath of sexual abuse or assault as husbands and/or as fathers, even if they themselves are good guys and would never dream of committing sexual assault.

Some of the problem I’ve seen is a mixing of false accusations, and accusations with no evidence. Especially with something like sexual harassment and assault, there are a lot of situations where there might never be a lot of proof. If I’m alone with a guy, and he decides to grab at my chest, unless there are security cameras or something it might very well be my word against his. (It would also be very plausible that I might not say anything unless someone else comes forward - especially if the man has more social pull than I do, or I have some other reason I think I might pay for speaking out.)

If you two have resolved the situation, don’t bother listening to what people with anonymous accounts (especially the virtue-signaling ones) on the internet (CAF) think.
Constantly referring to opinions/arguments you disagree with as “virtue signaling” counts as ad hominem attacks. He was wrong to do what he did, and he shouldn’t do it again. Sad to see that telling him so didn’t make a dent, since he’s thanking you for excusing his actions.

After all, the deceivers among them have been ruining men’s lives, so why not allow us justice by having the law ruin theirs?
Name one “deceiver.” Even if you can, I can still present thousands of cases where the accusations were found to be true.

It should not take one’s father or brothers to “explain” elementary levels of respect and decency when it comes to inappropriate sexual advances.
But we have ‘dads’ who encourage their sons to be ‘players’. It’s a disturbing thing but we’re told not to worry because consent. Such mentality leads to the objectification of women and some of that manifests itself as indecent behaviour, whether or not consent is involved.
Or there was recently a story written about a girl who dated a famous actor/writer - Aziz Ansari. He was accused of sexual assault when by all accounts they had a consensual relationship.
Not sexual assault but he’s a sleazy ‘progressive woke male feminist’. The ‘feminists’ defending Ansari are showing their true colours. Maybe the culture should have raised decent men.
The #MeToo Movement will accomplish nothing unless Catholic morality is involved. Nearly everything we’re presented with in our society concerning sex is WRONG. Whether it’s objectifying women or recreational sex, its ALL WRONG. We got here today after many decades of perdition.
[…]
People won’t change their lifestyles or vices though. The sins will simply be hidden better and folks will be more discreet. Until we follow God, this will barely scratch the surface of the rot within society.
People shouldn’t be too dismissive of this. Restraint can be a good thing and it has been wrongly smeared by many. Without it, chaos occurs. #MeToo will accomplish a few things but they are without a sound foundation and will fade.
Christian morality is the starting point. It hasn’t ‘failed’. The ‘failing’ is due complacency i.e. ‘it can never happen because x, y, z’ and many people forget wolves do in fact wear sheep’s clothing. It needs to be driven beyond the starting point.
Also, sexual hedonism breeds a mentality of entitlement and self-centric thinking.
