This is just so whacky I can’t believe you put it in print. Get a grip folks!!
This is not the Catholic faith I love! God is love. God is peace. Yes there is evil in the world so love one another to make it better.

Why oh why do you put so much importance in this kind of nonsense?!! This is not our faith!,
Greetings Anna Claire,

Neither is the Catholic faith all about love and peace, though everything it teaches and promulates is ordered to us coming in to a closer Union with God. The Catholic Faith acknowledges and teaches that there are demons and evil out there. And if there is evil, which there is, God will always bring a greater good out of it, he always has.

Do you know what the greatest evil was that happened in all of history? It is the crucifixion of our Dear Lord Jesus Christ, and yet look at all the good, which is infinite by the way, that came out of this.

To not believe in demons is to not believe in a De Fiden doctrine. To not believe in one doctrine of the Catholic Church is heresy.

I think that this thread is helpful. No one is getting carried away. No one is losing their peace. I think it is healthy that people can come together and discuss their expereiences. I must be really crazy because I have had many experiences due to me working with several exorcists and in the deliverance ministry for several years.

IN fact I encourage this thread, because people who go throgh these experiences need to know that they are not alone, that yes others have experiences these things as well, and yes there is hope and light at the end of the tunnel.

God Bless.

Am wondering how you can be Catholic if you contradict or deny what the catechism teaches.

I see what you’re saying, and I agree that we shouldn’t focus so much on the demonic because it can cause us to lose sight of the light. But I don’t think that many of us here are putting a lot of importance into this specifically. At least I’m not. I just find it very interesting

Thank you for saying this Anathama. We DO need to know others have experienced the things we have. We need to know we’re not crazy. It’s so important. To dismiss these experiences off hand is very damaging, especially if someone continues to experience them!

When I was a child (and I had a few experiences as a child too - although the bulk of my experiences has been as an adult) I used to go to adults and tell them and try to explain why I was so scared and they would dismiss me offhand because it was ‘just my imagination’…

That dismissal was so damaging. It is damaging even to an adult. That dismissal isolates a person and makes them feel so terrible. Why would a Christian do that to another Christian? I don’t know but I will never dismiss anyone’s experience off hand, even when it seems like it might have a natural explanation. It’s important not to be dismissive of people’s feelings, even while explaining the science behind certain things.

I’m not in despair about the fact he might be in hell. And I never have been. It was his choice, cold blooded as that sounds.

It could have been demonic, and even if it was, that would lay waste all those claims off those who try to make it all out to be purely psychological.

I"ll put it this way - why should he have gone to heaven?

So I don’t think it was demonic. I think he was sent to apologise, and I also his final scream was also a warning to me. I was an atheist at the time, and not living a particularly good life.

And of course the reason these sorts of experiences don’t normally happen to atheists is that they belong to the devil by default, even though they think he doesn’t exist. Why would the devil be stupid enough to disillusion them by giving them obvious spiritual experiences?

It’s a different matter for Christians, particularly if they’ve had a divine experience or two. They know the reality, and so the devil then tries a couple of different tacks - one is the use of fear and discouragement eg. some of the things that have been described on this forum not just by me, but by quite a number of others.

The other is deception, so that he appears to be an “angel of light” to quote St. Paul, who no doubt had more than his fair share of experiences. He wouldn’t have written about the latter term if he hadn’t. This is a lot trickier, and it can be very difficult to discern. I remember my wise old pastor once saying to me that I’d do this and that (all very negative and immoral things). But then he suddenly stopped with this puzzled look on his face, and remarked, “Hang on a minute! I think the devil’s telling me all this!”

And his predictions were usually dead accurate, simply because God was telling him certain things that were going to happen.

So even someone as holy and wise as he was got taken in for a short time.
May I ask how you could have been an atheist at the time of your dad’s death if you experienced/witnessed supernatural demonic activity prior to your dad dying??

Did you just think it was all in your head?

Greetings Debora123,

One thing that I am finding in this thread is that no one is losing sight of the light. IN fact these expereiences, I feel, have been related with a strong faith. Perhaps these expereiences, well I know yes indeed they have, brought those who have experiences these things much closer to God. It makes their faith stronger. This is a good that comes out of these experiences.

Nothing wrong in being interested in these things either.

God Bless.

Greetings Nickybr38,

As a child I felt very alone and isolated. I thought I was going crazy. Any idea of asking your parents whether they see x or y, and yet you can see x and y as plain as day, but your parents cannot? My childhood was very troubled becuase of things. I guess as I got older and began to discern things that there was no way of me finding out, my parents finally believed that I was seeing things and hearing things that no one could see or hear.

A great majority of my life, I prayed to God to take away this because I felt like I was cursed. I felt so alone and so alienated. One of the shows that I like very much is Paranormal Kids, I am not sure that it airs on A&E still. Also not everything they say on that show is in line with our faith, but at least they are reaching out to these kids with these gifts and showing them that they are not alone.

My parents put me through counseling and psychaitric care because they thought I was crazy. Doctor after doctor would tell them, there’s nothing wrong with me. They said that there were no mental illnesses or physical illnesses in my life. My parents still would not believe this, only recently did I hear my Mom say, the reason we kept taking you to different doctors and putting you on meds was because it was easier for us to believe you were crazy and we thought the medication would make it go away. We did not want to accept the truth of what you were saying.

I was crying to Mom that day and asked her did she know how much torment she put me through. The one thing that allowed me to forgive so easily, besides God’s grace, were the tears that instantly sprang to her eyes and overflowed. *

Since then I have done reserach into what was going on, and have meet several priests. And one thing led to another and here I am doing “The Work,” - I see why some people call it that.

Are there cases where this is in people’s imagination, Absolutely. But there are better ways of handling things. And disregaruding their expereiences is not one of them.

I think I can understand due to what happened to me as a child, as to why other Christians would do this to other Christians. Perhaps they want to believe it is someone’s imaginations becuase demons and evil are uncomfortable for them. Somehow a demon possessing or oppressing someone does not fit in with their understanding of God is love and peace. They see things in a very limited way. Your mind will do 2 things when presented with something, it will either accept it, or deny it. And if it denies it, your mind will do all sorts of neat little things that will keep you denying the truth. If one denies a truth, they are starting a trip down the slippery slope of insanity. For not to accept the truth is to embrace insanity.

There is a place for science. I support science whole heartedly. In fact doing the work, I do look and discern for natural causes first. But even if I do find a natural cause, I cannot dismiss things so readily. It takes much prayer, much fasting, much discerning, frequent Recourse to the Sacraments.

Wow, I don’t know why I went on like this, and as much as I wish not to post it, something inside is saying to hit post reply and there is peace about it. You know I have never shared this with anyone outside of my family and my spiritual director/confessor until now.

May God Bless all of us,

I was just going leave this and not bother to respond, but feel I need to…

Your comments to forum members ’ to get a grip and that it’s whacky’ were very disrespectful and personal… It’s very hard for many of us to come forward. That is why it is dangerous to be ignorant in these matters and speak with authority… Those that experience a demonic presence are often left feeling alone or isolated and this forum, has helped greatly…
No we aren’t whacky, and it’s not as simple as ‘get a grip’
Knowledge is power, to understand what to do and how to react when under ‘attack’ is vitally important… Believe me if not handled correctly it can lead to ‘oppression’ or in some circumstances Posession…

I’ve copied a couple of paragraphs from a interview with Fr. Gabriele Amoth… Link is below…

Rome, Italy, May 17, 2011 / 03:27 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- The chief exorcist of Rome is seeing a rising number of young people coming under the influence of evil, but he has found in recent years that Blessed John Paul II is a powerful intercessor in the battle for souls.

“The world must know that Satan exists,” he told CNA recently. “The devil and demons are many and they have two powers, the ordinary and the extraordinary.”

As for the extraordinary powers used by Satan, Fr. Amorth explained it as how the Devil acts when he focuses his attention more specifically on a person. He categorized the expression of that attention into four types: diabolical possession; diabolical vexation like in the case of Padre Pio, who was beaten by the Devil; obsessions which are able to lead a person to desperation and infestation, and when the Devil occupies a space, an animal or even an object.”

Anna Claire, are you saying that Fr. Gabriele Amorth The Vaticans Chief excorist needs to also ‘get a grip’???

catholicnewsagency.com/news/romes-exorcist-finding-bl.-john-paul-ii-effective-against-satan/

**Surely even YOU **can see that the Vatican takes this very seriously… I am not going to rehash other posts or links of which there are many, Members here have posted passages for you to read from The Bible, as well as quotes and concerns from Both Pope Benedict XVI and Pope John Paul II

I spent years not understanding what I was going through, I hope and pray that some good will come out of this thread for someone who may be in a similar situation…

👍 Thank you for this.

I’m sure your testimony will touch many who read it. It’s just such a relief to hear about others who’ve had similar experiences. It brings hope. A lot of hope.

Last year I really struggled with; Why would God let me see the things He’s let me see? It was through CAF that I learned the use for people like you and I and that helped me a lot.

I’m sure there are others out there who are struggling who will find this place and find comfort.

With all due respect, the member you speak of is still a Catholic regardless of what she does or does not accept in the Catechism. 👍

To say otherwise is false and a little rude, in my humble opinion…
I stand corrected, you are quite right to pick me up on that… It’s no excuse I know, but this thread is very close to home for me!!

I am sure it is, and I’m sure it must be difficult to feel as though you are once again being dismissed.

God bless. 🙂

You don’t have to call someone a non Christian, a troll, and a wolf just because they don’t believe the stories written here.
Greetings Debora123,

I don’t think that there is all this reaction towards Anna because of her not believing the stories in this thread. The reason the reactions are coming strongly is because she does not seem to believe according to the Teachings of the Church and she seems to be passing off her beliefs as truth which they are not.

I also guess if we see something that does come across offensive, the best thing to do is to take it to Personal Messages or to the Moderators but never in open forum. That is the most charitable way. And as you can see DihydrogenOxide’s comment was edited.

God Bless.

I suggest that she read the catechism. I think this falls within the purview of fraternal correction.

She suggested that others and I obtain psychological help.

You decide.

One can be Catholic and refuse to believe in a doctrine or two, but they are heretical Catholics technically speaking. There is no grey areas. However if one is struggling to believe in a doctrine than that is fine, they are not heretical Catholics. It takes obstinate refusal to believe in a doctrine to make one a heretic.

I guess what we can do and should do is pray for those who do not believe according to the Teachings of the Church, that they may be enlightened with the gift of faith regarding this matters.

I don’t take well to people being bullied for any reason. Never have, since high school.

Though I see now that Dihydrogen’s comment was indeed edited, and I thank him for that. 👍

Suggesting that she read the CCC is completely legit. I just didn’t like the comment about her not being a Catholic. 🙂
