Yes, many times I have been pulled out of sound asleep at around 3AM to feel or see a demonic presence. The last time, the thing was actually pulling my arm away from my body and upward. I was laying on my right side. I tried to speak the word of Jesus but I could not get His name out of my mouth, prevented from doing this. I could only think to say Jesus, please help me. The thing left.
This is a common biological phenomena.

I have no doubt that I wouldn’t forget it if objects were levitating!

On the other hand, I haven’t forgotten what happened to me (it was 15 years ago), and it may or may not have been demonic also. There’s no way to know after the fact if my experience was sleep paralysis, it just seems to be a probable cause.
Exorcists say. I’ve read the major books by priests on the subject- that EVEN among tue demonic activity, levitation is VERY rare.

If we read this thread and believed everything- we’d think demons were arond every corner. . . . .

No but we would think that those who’ve experienced encounters have been drawn together in this thread to share their experiences.

I don’t think the world is full of married people because there’s a thread on married people that people comment on!!!

Greetings Nickybr38,

I have really enjoyed reading your responses to this thread. Thanks.

What is it?
It’s the transition between sleep and wakefulness. Here is just one article I found.

socyberty.com/paranormal/why-we-see-ghosts-while-half-awake-or-half-asleep/

Notice how many of the experiences listed here are in the context of sleep, wking up, or time in the hospital (delirium) etc.

I actually had something happen pretty much exactly like some of the events plsted here but I know it was simply psychological/biological in origin.

Another thing you will notice is how many more of these kids of events are reported by children than adults or adults report having these events when they were children. Kids have a more active imagination and the lines between fanatsy and reality are blurred.

I find it’s important to find the most ordinary explantion of such things as that is likely the correct interpretation. Some folks would prefer to believe the more fantastical however. 🤷

That said, I believe that demonic activity does occur, it is just very rare.

I Have to say, that I 1st experienced horrible oppressive truly evil presence’s as a child… Again as a young teenager, ( I would always pray, after a few Hail Mary’s they would leave) then finally (the worst was) as a woman in her early 40’s which did result in opression and inability to get a single prayer out or seek help… (now 50 I’m just recovering from this experience)… Non of it was ‘fantasy’ or imagination…

As for the dark wishy washy shapes floating around the room, the shadows that you see out of the corner of your eyes as some here have mentioned… Pretty much all the time, I now try to tune them out pray for protection from Archangel Michael… I pray… pray …pray… sometimes they get pretty close, hovering just above me… Not again!!

I’m a pretty well grounded person, I actually always looked for a ‘logical’ explanation first…

So to anyone else I say PRAY THE ROSARY Our Biggest weapon!!

I had an experience once. A demonic vision. Never anything like it since. I was wide awake, just starting the rosary, when it happened. I was not a child at the time, either.

So… when these experiences happen to adults who aren’t in the state between sleep and wakefulness…? Then you give them more credence or you assume the adult in question has a psychological disorder?

I have actually had objects physically thrown at me … I have seen manifestations… I have been touched physically… all as an adult and all in the afternoon while I was fully awake. The incidents I have experienced have happened once every two or three years. They are not constant… they just happen every now and then out of the blue. I have actually had VERY few incidents that occured when I was anywhere near sleeping… daytime occurances have been the norm.

Honestly I believe that some people are just going to experience these things. For whatever reason some people can just see beyond the veil, as it were… but not all of us can and not all of us will. What further convinces me of this is that while my sister and brother haven’t experienced the things I have, my niece has been having many of the same experiences I had as a child (and, in fact, encountered the same ‘entity’ I did… in the same place I did… EXACT same place. No one told her about it, I encountered this entity long before she was born but she KNEW it was there and she was comfortable telling us so… can you imagine how much that freaked us out?).

Whatever the case I don’t think it’s a cause for fear. If you hear a bump in the night, or think you hear a voice, it probably IS your mind playing tricks on you but it doesn’t hurt to say a prayer… and is there IS something sinister it can’t hurt you anyway. 🤷

Oh man, one time I had a dream that I was inside the sacristy and the devil was trying to pull me through the ceiling out of the Church. I was fighting back furiously! He couldn’t get me, but I woke up swinging! Lol

That was my first year in seminary, almost immediately after I entered.

What did it look like?

AHH! Bad dreams are the WORST. But if you’re going to have one, seminary is a good place for it. 😉

My family has had doors open and close, facets, toilets, and showers turn on, and my little sister has told us she feels an evil presence in her room a lot, like someone is there with her. My entire family is Catholic. We pray each night as a family and regularly go to Church. The more you’re in tune with God, the less you are in sin and in the devil. The devil doesn’t like that. He tries to scare and to turn people away from God. I’m like, no thanks, I’d rather endure your silly scare tactics and remain faithful in God so I can have a good afterlife. I’ve had so many nightmares ever since I started being more faithful. Like, a nightmare every few days now as opposed to not having a bad dream for years at a time. I’ve noticed that in each bad dream, nightmare, sleep paralysis, every time I ask Jesus to help, the nightmare transforms into a completely perfect dream. Jesus is the best.

maybe a devil was imitating him to give you despair on his probability to be in heaven. remember that devils do that over centuries even among lives of some saints you can find that same thing. Still pray for our father. if ever he is really in hell, then the merits of your prayer will still not be in vain. God will do some thing about the merits you earned
I’m not in despair about the fact he might be in hell. And I never have been. It was his choice, cold blooded as that sounds.

It could have been demonic, and even if it was, that would lay waste all those claims off those who try to make it all out to be purely psychological.

I"ll put it this way - why should he have gone to heaven?

So I don’t think it was demonic. I think he was sent to apologise, and I also his final scream was also a warning to me. I was an atheist at the time, and not living a particularly good life.

And of course the reason these sorts of experiences don’t normally happen to atheists is that they belong to the devil by default, even though they think he doesn’t exist. Why would the devil be stupid enough to disillusion them by giving them obvious spiritual experiences?

It’s a different matter for Christians, particularly if they’ve had a divine experience or two. They know the reality, and so the devil then tries a couple of different tacks - one is the use of fear and discouragement eg. some of the things that have been described on this forum not just by me, but by quite a number of others.

The other is deception, so that he appears to be an “angel of light” to quote St. Paul, who no doubt had more than his fair share of experiences. He wouldn’t have written about the latter term if he hadn’t. This is a lot trickier, and it can be very difficult to discern. I remember my wise old pastor once saying to me that I’d do this and that (all very negative and immoral things). But then he suddenly stopped with this puzzled look on his face, and remarked, “Hang on a minute! I think the devil’s telling me all this!”

And his predictions were usually dead accurate, simply because God was telling him certain things that were going to happen.

So even someone as holy and wise as he was got taken in for a short time.

Just how rare do you think they are?

I’m a skeptic. My faith in “God with us” is too strong to believe in what I will call nonsense. Anyone who does have such experiences should seek mental, physical and spiritual help.
I disagree. If you believe God is with you, then you must also be ready to believe that Devil also can be with you. It can be permitted by God.

Personally I had my share of experience of being strangled when i decided to go for a retreat and mend my life !

I had an experience back in college. I don’t like to talk about the details anymore, but it involved 8-10 other people and occurred over the course of about two months. None of what happened occurred during sleeping or awakening periods, and a lot of what went on took place when there were 2, 4 or 6 people present. It was truly terrifying. It took place at the time in my life when I was furthest from the Church and at my weakest spiritually. One positive side-effect was that it eventually helped reaffirm my faith.

Sounds like a series of seances or something similar. I take it something peculiar happened.

Yes, that is very true. The Devils boots don’t creek. There is also a fly in the Adoration Chapel (been there for months). It is the loudest fly I have ever heard. It diverts my attention away from the Blessed Sacrament and to him. Thankfully, I have plenty of Spiritual warfare prayers now 👍.
This is just so whacky I can’t believe you put it in print. Get a grip folks!!
This is not the Catholic faith I love! God is love. God is peace. Yes there is evil in the world so love one another to make it better.

Why oh why do you put so much importance in this kind of nonsense?!! This is not our faith!,

And you should not judge how others practice their faith. That is biblical. If the way we practice threatens your definition of the Catholic Church then just ignore us. Simple as that.

You really shouldn’t call people whacky or be telling us to get a grip. That’s quite rude. Even if you’re thinking it, to say it is to belittle the person you’re speaking to and maybe he/she genuinely believes this fly is a distraction from the devil. What’s the harm in thinking this? So he/she says a few extra prayers… so WHAT? That doesn’t hurt you. It doesn’t hurt me. It doesn’t hurt the person praying. What’s the big deal? Leave it alone.
