Sadly, even though John3_3 is (ahem!) no longer with us, a response is needed to that which he put forth. I remember here that he has been taught his beliefs, and so those who taught him bear the greater responsibility.
John3_3 Paul is addressing not the elders of the Church at Corinth but the entire Church at Corinth. Paul added his reconciliation for the in earlier epistles he was wroth. Though it reviled him, he submitted himself to forgive, and as he fellowships with God he is saying he is doing so in the ‘presence of Christ’. He is not taking a confession, he is not dispensing penance. He is forgiving.
First, John3_3 is quoting from a modern, man-made revision of the original translation. Modern bibles, for whatever reason, use “presence” instead of the original “in the person of Christ” This is a mutilation of scripture and clouds the true meaning.
Point: How can one forgive
outside of the presence of Christ? Is this even possible, since forgiveness is a trait which we received form God? Nonsense. Paul does not reveal the nature of that which was forgiven, a hint at the confidentiality of the confession. “Reconciliation” can be to one another, or between us and God. Paul forgave “for your sakes” indicating that it was the loosing of sin before God. He had to have authority to do that, and as a hand-chosen Ambassador for Christ, he possessed that God-given authority.
This is as silly (and dangerous) as saying that you forgive Hitler, so God automatically forgave him.
John3_3 ‘Public Confession’ my friend is the declaration of your faith in Jesus’ name.
It appears that you may not believe in sin, or the need to confess it. We confess, not only what we believe, but our sinfulness. Do you confess your sins to one another where you worship? If not, you are not following the bible (
James 5:!6). Do you confess only the positive? God sees both that and your sin. I hope you confess your sins. I hope your ears hear that you are forgiven.
John3_3 On the issue of ‘Binding and Loosing’. This is the power we have as believers. There is no other debt to pay.
At least you understand that grace flows through those humans that God chooses. Yet, there is zero evidence, that what man forgives, God also forgives. Forgiveness before God requires repentance. Period. Jesus gave this power of binding and loosing only to the twelve, and to no one else. They passed it on to their successors. It is very curious that evangelicals deny the Catholic priesthood, but exult in what they believe to be their own. Curious indeed.
John3_3 Yes, we are Ambassadors, you and I both and all who believe on the Name of Jesus. We are Ambassadors if we proclaim the truth of God’s word otherwise we are traitors of the Kingdom, would you not agree?
In a sense, yes. But, do you claim to have the exact powers that Christ gave only to the twelve? I hope not!
John3_3 The word of Grace is this. Come all ye who are heavy ladden and I will give you rest, for my yoke is easy and my burden light. Come believe on the name of Jesus and you shall be saved.
Since you use the partial scripture of
John 3:3 as your username, I suspect that you have chosen to disregard
John 3:5, which tells
how you are born from above: “Water and the Spirit” I suspect also that you are not baptized. If so, then you may not be Christian. Jesus, our Savior, comanded that we
BOTH believe
and be baptized (
Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:16). If you choose to disregard baptism, does that mean that the rest of us can disregard faith? It is not either/or, it is
both/and, my brother.
John3_3 My friend, not only do I know my sins are forgiven.
How? What if you do not repent?
John3_3 Justified not by penance, but only through the grace of my Lord Jesus. This is not the back door, but the front.
Another man-made teaching that opposes Christ: “From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say:
Do penance, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (
Matthew 4:17) By what authority do you overrule Jesus?
John3_3 Does God speak to me? Does he not speak to you? I daily dwell in his presence.
Of course he does - but not on my simplistic terms, but on His unfathomable terms - such as through the Sacraments which He alone instituted. You may dwell in His spiritual presence, but 1.5 billion Christians, and even you - can spend time in His physical presence. Ask any Catholic or Orthodox Christian.
We see reflected above the modern, Made in USA fundamentalism that is the product of personal opinion that is not informed by the Apostolic Traditions. We all rely on God’s grace, but that grace also requires that we respond to it. I pray that John 3_3 continues to read, as there is an entire world of faith that he/she has yet to be exposed to - one that will seem completely amazing by contrast.
